Hi,
I recently found out that my grandmother's cousin, Salvatore Staino married Rose Cava.
I believe her parents were Michele Cava and Rosina.
They were from Serra Pedace.
I believe Michele's brother's were Anotonio and Pietro.
They all settled in Philadelphia, PA.

I'm looking for relatives, ancestors, and info on my Cava clan. My great-great grandfather was Antonio Cava, who married Louise Olivero. Antonio moved from Italy to Chicago. His father was Francesco Cava (we are assuming it was changed from Pulicci or Pulici), and his mother was Serafina Mazzuca. Louise's parents were Peter Oliver and Vincenza Boffa.

My grandparents moved from Chicago to CA, and so there are a few of us in the Bay Area and in the Central Coast. Please let me know if you have any information that goes beyond Antonio and Louise.

Their father, my grandfather was named Samuel and his wife my grandmothers maiden name was Griffith. He had a brother named Joe and thier father was named Giuseppe. His health had been failing for some time. Besides his wife and a daughter he leaves four sons, two of them serving overseas, and one who is confined to the Valley Forge, Pa., hospital. Corporal Richard Cava is with the Army in the South Pacific and Technical Sergeant Eugene Cava is with Army in Germany, Private Michael is at the Valley Forge Hospital. The other surviving son is Angelo of Peekskill. He leaves one daughter,Mrs. Russell Brown. The late Mr. Cava lived in Peekskill for the past 48 yrs. . He was born in Italy December 18, 1886. CAVA, EUGENE E. - Eugene E. Cava, a Montrose resident died on March 22, 2002. He was 77 years old. He was born on December 5, 1924, the son of Felice and Mary Pacia Cava. Mr. Cava attended local Peekskill schools, and then went on to serve in the United States Army during World War II as a Sergeant in a Central European Operations Reconnaissance Unit. His unit, The 4th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron, Mechanized, was cited for "conspicuously distinguishing itself in battle against the enemy on 20 and 21 of December, 1944". The Atlantic and Pacific Tea Corporation, Briarcliff, NY then employed Mr. Cava for thirty- eight years as Produce Manager, retiring in 1984. He also worked for ten years in the Hendrick Hudson School District, Montrose, as a bus driver, custodian and cabinetmaker, retiring from there in 1994. Mr. Cava was a communicant at Assumption Church, Peekskill. He was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Society, Verplanck and of the Centennial Hose Co., Peekskill. Woodworking, cooking and the New York Yankees were his favorite pastimes. Mr. Cava is survived by beloved son and daughter, Michael E. of Mohegan Lake and Mary Ellen Staten of Putnam Valley, along with his longtime friend and companion, Josephine Perugini of Buchanan. Dear grandchildren, Nicholas Gene and Jenna Marie Staten of Putnam Valley also survive. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, March 25, 2002 at 11:15 a.m., Assumption Church, Peekskill, followed by entombment at Assumption Cemetery. there are many cava's living (and buried) in salinas california, decended from joe and barbara cava. next time i'm in my office, i'll look on the wall, where i have a picture of the "hometown, birthplace?" of joe cava (my grandfather) - and then i'll post it here.
i also noticed postings from a "sam cava".. there was a sam cava in my family - an earlier generation - i wonder if there might be a relation there?? i think the sam i've heard of lived in san jose california.

I searched the Serra Pedace records for the birth of your grandmother. There were no families named Rago living there. Are you certain that she was born there?

If I understand correctly, her married name was Cava. Could her husband have been born in Serra Pedace? What was his name? Where were they married?

My error--my grandmother Constance's husband was Nicholas Rago and I had thought they might have come from the same area, but they were married in Maryland, so this was just a gamble. Father was Antonio (Antony?) Cava

Thank you for your offer to match your database to my info. My maternal grandmother's birthdate from her social security death index records is 15 October 1884. However, on her marriage certificate dated 1899, she gives her age as 18, which would make her birthdate year 1881. Her name was Constanza (Constance) Cava. I am sure there was a middle name but no one seems to know it. Her mother was Rosa Archepoli (sp?) b. September 1848; her father was Nicholas Rago, b March 1852 (probably in the same general area). Thank you for your efforts. I am really off again on again with my geneology research, as I am at the dead end--where do I go now ? point on almost everyone.

The oldes Losavioin Brazil is the father of my grandfather "Guiseppe Losavio" I would like toknow if do you have any records for the family of Gemma Losavio, according to my grandfather, Guiseppe came from Calabria to Brazil in 1876...
