Classification: Lookup
Surnames: Cuvelier, DeDie, Houmes, Brill, Faas, leMahieu,
My great-grandmother was Mary DeDie Houmes. Her sister, Sarah Stoffelina DeDie, b. 12-2-1822 in Biervliet, Zeeland,
Holland, married Jacob Cuvelier 3-4-1846, Sodus, Wayne Cty., NY. Sarah d. 6-13-1909, Holdredge, Phelps Cty., NE.
Jacob b. 5-30-1817, Schoondijke. 4th District Province of Zeeland, Holland; d. 8-27-1868, Watseka, Iroquois Cty., IL.
Jannis DeDie and wife, Anna le Mahieu came to U.S. in Apr. 12, 1845 with adult children, Johannes, later seen as Jacob, Susanna, Sarah and Maria (Mary). They came on the
MANNHEIM, arriving in Rochester, NY. Jannis told the sweet-
hearts of the girls they could not marry in Holland, but if
the boys could come up with passage money, he would feed
them on the trip. I'll have to go back in my records; I do
know that Susanna's friend, Leonard Faas and perhaps Jacob
Cuvelier (Sarah's friend) came with them. Mary's friend did
not want to leave Holland, so he stayed behind & she met and married William Houmes in Wayne Cty., NY. I'll have to
look back and see if Mary Brill accompanied Jacobus DeDie,
or if she came with her parents. Several people have shared
Cuvelier info with me thru the years, so if you have specific questions, let me know. My e-mail is Spr1sleuth@aol.com, Marge & Bill Crotts, 5501 E. Duncan St.,
