Jennifer,
I'm trying to find my family as well. My grandparents were Antonio and Natale Saia (Camerota). Antonio had a brother, Santo Saia. He also had Concetto, Rocco and Frank. One sister, Catherine (Catarina) stayed in Italy and married a Cavallaro. Does any of this sound familiar?

nursestrom@yahoo.com.

My stepfather is Angelo Antonio Cavallaro

His parents were Ferdinando (Fred) Cavallaro and Franchesina (unsure of maiden name). I think Fred migrated to Australia in the 40's or early 50's after the war. I believe he had brothers who emigrated from Calabria to the U.S.

Anyone who thinks they may have relevant information can contact me.

Thanks

You have my name (Maryann) right, but I'm sorry to say, I did not marry a guy name Dick in 1957. The only event that took place in my life in 1957 was I graduated from high school but I did'nt marry until 1960 to a guy name Andrew Donaldson. I had a son and a daughter with him then we got divorced in 1967. I remarried my present husband in 1971 and had another daughter.
I have a brother name Angelo Carmelo (Cavallaro) who is 73 and also a brother name Ilario (Cavallaro) who is 74. My grandmother on my dad's side was Carmela (Icopetta, her maiden name) and my grandfather was Ilario Cavallaro. From what I understand, my grandparents never left Caulonia but their son, Alessandro moved to Australia and their other son, my father came to America.
It IS very interesting that the names you have, Maryann and Carmello have been mentioned to you.
I would not recognize a picture of anyone young man named Carmello but I will ask my brothers and see if they would.
Take care until next time.
Maryann

This is very interesting. My name is Ross Cincinnato and I am writing to you from Sydney, Australia. I am trying to track down my Uncle, Carmello Cavallaro. By now he would have passed away however I know he had a daughter named Mary Ann. She was married June 7, 1957 to Dick. There may have been another 2 children but I am not 100% sure. Does this ring any bells?? I do have photos of my uncle Carmello when he was in his late teens, early twentys. I also have a photo of Mary Ann and Dick on their wedding day. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Any information you have no matter how insignificant you think it will be would be greatly appreciated.

The name of my father was Domenicoantonio Cavallaro and he was born on August 8, 1892 in
Caulonia, Reggio Calabria, Italy. He came to America in 1908, served in the US Army in 1918 and was honorably discharged in 1919 when the war ended.
He had one brother, Allexandro who had five sons, among them one named Ilario and another Vincenzo who I think both lived in Adelaide Australia. I cannot think of the other three names. Perhaps you are the grandson of one of these sons. My dad died in November of 1965. Hope this helps figuring out if we are related.
The info have is limited.

My father is Frank Cavallaro, born in Illinois in 1930 and raised in Fresno,CA. My Grandfather was Samuel (Sam) Cavallaro, from Sicily or Southern Italy. He died in Fresno, CA in the early 1970's. My Grandmother's last name was Azzarella, I believe her first name was Rose. She was from Naples, Itally or another southern Italian town. I believe that she died in the early 1930's.

Ties between FORNARO and CAVALLARO, location RI

I'm just starting my Italian family. My ancestors are FORNARO from Itri, Latina, Lazio, Italy.

Itri is north of Naples and about 4-5 miles inland from the coastal town of Gaeta.

My grandfather Giuseppi b. 1865, Itri, Italy came to Providence, RI in 1892 and was joined sometime in 1893 by my grandmother, Rachela nee CANNELLA b. abt. 1870 Italy and daughters Angelina b.1892 Itri, Italy and Clara b. 1893 France. As far as I have been able to determine, Giuseppi and Rachela never strayed from the Italian section of Providence known as Federal Hill. They had a total of 11 children of which my father was the youngest.

Also coming to RI and settling on Federal Hill was Giuseppi's brother Benedetto with wife Maria.

Other surnames from Itri and in my family that I know of so far: CANNELLA & DIVONA.

There is also some sort of connection between CAVALLARO and FORNARO but I haven't figured out if it's just friendship or blood. My grandparents are said to be the Godparents of Msgr. Galliano CAVALLARO, retired, from the Diocese of Providence. I haven't been able to make a connection and all those who might have known, including my Dad, have passed away. Msgr. CAVALLARO officiated at a couple of family funerals and seemed to know a much older cousin of mine, also deceased now, quite well. Do any CAVALLARO researchers know of a connection between the two families?

Looking for any information on FORNARO, CANNELLA, DIVONA OR CAVALLARO with ties to Itri and researchers of these families.

Hi,
It was nice to hear from you. Since it's been almost two years, I had forgotten I listed on Ancestry.com so I'm very glad you responded.
I understand there is a family in Caulonia that is related to me and perhaps you can bring me up-to-date with their names when you respond. I will give you the names of my relatives from Caulonia and we begin from there. My great-great grandfather was Ilario Cavallaro and was married to Theresa Sansalone. I do not know any dates on these two relatives.
My grandfather was Ilario Cavallaro, born on 8th of July, 1846;
died July 11, 1915. The town of Castlevetere comes into play so I think it's the town where he died since that town comes up with my grandmother also. My grandmother was Carmela Iacopetta, born 16th February 1847; died November 10, 1934. Castlevetere is mentioned here again. I know that my great-grandfather was Francesco Cavallaro born October 14, 1823 and I know he was married to my great-grandmother Anna Cavallaro but I do not have her maiden name. I do know she was born March 4, 1825 but I do not know when she died.
My father was Domenicoantonio Cavallaro, son of Ilario and Carmela and he was born on 8th of August, 1892 in Caulonia.
He died in the United States on November 24, 1965. My father's brother was Alexsandro Cavallaro born in Caulonia but moved to (I think) Lockley, Australia later in life.
I look forward to hearing from you again with good news.
Lovingly.

We can't seem to remember Frances' maiden name. Three of the sons were named, Ilario, Vincenzo and Guiseppe. I cannot think of the other two boys name. My father was in Battle Creek, Michigan where he was discharged honorably from WWI. He lived in Redondo, California, Clarksburg, WV and Florida.
Any of this information registers with you? Let me know if and how it does.
Regards,
Maryann

Davide,

I was just surfing the web for something to do and I stumbled upon this site. Anyhow I read your message and I thought I should reply. My folks came to Fremantle WA around 1961 from Caulonia in Calabria. My father's name is Agostino Guiseppe and he was born in 1939 in the village of Gozza, my mother is Guissepina who was born in 1939 in the village of Pezzolo.

I know my father has an Auntie in Adelaide who lives in the Seaton area. I am not sure if she is a Cavallaro or even her first name.

My fathers family still live in the Caulonia area. His brother Rocco lives in Rocella Ionica with his wife Carmela.

Ask people in your family maybe we are related, if not I am sure there is a definite connection there.

Thanks!

Oreglio

Interesting!

My father, Domenicoantonio Cavallaro came to America in 1908. He enlisted in the Army and was honorably discharged at the end of World War I in 1919 from Battle Creek, Michigan, USA. He came to Jacksonville, Florida in 1925 and married my mother in 1930. From that marriage came two brothers, Ilario Lawrence Cavallaro, Angelo Carmelo Cavallaro and myself, Maryann. My father was born August 8, 1892 in Caulonia and died in Jacksonville on November 24, 1965. My father had one brother, Alexandro and one sister, Catherine. I understand that Alexandro lived in Australia and had five or six sons. I know they were living in Australia the last we heard many years ago. I know that Ilario, Vincenzo lived in Australia and that Guiseppe lived in Lockley, Australia. This is about all I know of relatives in Australia. I will give you the only information I know and maybe someone will know someone. Here it is:
My Great Grandfather was Ilario Cavallaro who was born on July 8, 1846 in Castelvetere. He died on July 11, 1915. He was married to Carmela Iacopetta who was born on February 16, 1847 in Castelvetere and died on November 10, 1934. Her father was named Guiseppe Iacopetta--dates unknown.
My Great-Grandfather was Francesco Cavallaro who was born on October 14, 1823. I do not know when he died. He was married to a lady name Anna but I do not know the last name. All I know was she was born March 4, 1825.
My Great-Great Grandfather was Ilario Cavallaro and he was married to Teresa Sansalone but we have no dates on them.
Please give me your family history if possible.
Thanks!

Hi Davide,
Well, I'm picking up on the name, Pasquale.
Pasquale Cavallaro was one of the son's of Alexandro Cavallaro, my father's brother. It came to mind after reading your reply. I think the boys were Giuseppe, Ilario, Vincenzo, Pasquale and possibly Angelo. I wrote to Giuseppe several times in the early 70's but I lost contact, apparently because he passed away. I get from your message that your grandfather Pasquale had only one brother so I don't think he is the same person. Giuseppe, Ilario, Vincenzo, Pasquale and Angelo would all be my first cousins. Somewhere, I have more information and when I can round it all up, I'll let you know what I find. It may be a while because I'll have lots to search through (with my mother's history too).
My oldest brother, Ilario whom we call Larry is 68 years old. The next brother is Angelo who is 67 years old. I am the youngest and only girl and I am 60 years old. My brother, Angelo, has been to Italy many, many
times. He goes there almost once or twice a year. He goes to Rome, Florence and also to Caulonia and Scilla where my mother is from. My brother Angelo is the one that I got the names and dates of all of my father's and mother's relatives. Let's keep in touch. Maryann

Coincidence?

Hello Maryann,
Well as it happens, we may be connected after all. The Giuseppe Cavallaro you mentioned seems to have been my uncle also.
He passed away many years ago in the 70's.
He was married to my grandfather's (Pasquale
Cavallaro - died in 1990) sister, Grazia Cavallaro (the same surnames). They have children (which are my cousins) called Alex,
Larry, Rina Eva (there could be more, but these are the ones I know more). And of course they have children also. The Cavallaro Clan is quite big here in Adelaide, Australia. A lot of them live in Lockleys, South Australia (this is where I grew up). We have an annual Cavallaro Reunion every year. Anyway, my grandfather -Pasquale Cavallaro had one brother, Domenico - who is still alive, and 7 sisters.
I have a question - how old are you? I am 33
years old and am very interested in tracking my roots on both sides as I find it fascinating. My father mentioned his uncle went to Pittsburgh, USA, in around 1915 and he was on a list to immigrate from Caulonia to the USA but ended up in Australia. My father is Domenico Franco from Strano, Caulonia my mother is Emilia Cavallaro born here in Adelaide. I'll let you know more soon.
Thanks for replying,
Davide

Ciao Maryann,

How is everything? I thought it was time to contact you again in order to find out what is happening in the world of Cavallaros. Caterina Belcastro (nee Cavallaro) passed away last week. She was my nonno's sister. She was quite young also, only ninety-four years of age. She was the oldest of the seven sisters and two brothers (my nonno, the only other member of that family to have passed on). They seem blessed with longevity. By the way, there is a sister, Emilia, in San Jose, California, but I don't know her married name. She is the youngest as the rest are in their eighties and nineties.

All The Best,

Davide
