Hello,
Bruno and Maria were brother and sister. Maria was my great great grandmother. Maria married Giovanni Poggio. I am trying to find out the names of their parents in Italy. Also, I need some family info straightened out. The following is information that my aunt in her 80's gave to me.
Bruno Cavalli married Maria Graciano (or Graciano was his mother’s name). They owned and operated Bruno's Ravioli & Grocery Store at 319 W. 39th St., NYC. The store relocated to 414 W. 37 St. The store was sold to Angela (Angelina Poggio- eldest daughter of Giovanni Poggio and Maria Cavalli) and her husband Vittorio Ronchetti. They owned the store for a few years and later sold the store back to the Cavalli family.
Bruno and Maria had two sons, Americo and Louis.
Any information would help. I also have photos of my great grandmother and her family. My last name was Bongiovanni.
Any help would be appreciated.
Donna
Windgate1@att.net

My family is from the Felizzano area. The town next to Asti.
Mid 1800s: Giovanni Poggio m. Maria Cavalli. My GGgrandparents. At this point, I know of one brother, of Maria's, named Bruno Cavalli (b.in early or mid 1880s) m Maria Graciano. They had 2 children that I know of which were Amerigo (believe he may have died at a young age) and a Lorrie or Louie. I received this information today from an Aunt. I still need clarification.
Bruno Cavalli came to the US about 1911. He lived in NYC and was know as Bruno Ravioli, the King of Ravioli.

I don't have the documents. I was aware of some Cavalli Family documents that were found in a home remodel so I posted on the Cavalli Board. Go to Rootsweb and look on the Plumas County Message Board. The person that found the documents and is looking for Cavalli relatives has a post on that board. I hope it is your family!!
You say your grandfather went down on the Arandora Star. My husband's uncle died on the Arandora Star, along with many many family friends. My husband's father's best friend was on the boat, too, and miraculously, he survived. Please tell me your grandfather's name and the details of his internment, etc.
Thanks,
Jane

Hi there, Excuse the late reply but I only recently found this site. My Father (John) was from Alpe di Bedonia, Parma, which I understand is about an hour away from Bardi. My Mother (Celesta Bertoli) came from the Bedonia area too. I'm on Long Island, NY (Massapequa Park).I've been hoping to find other "branches" of our Cavalli family. By the way, how did you wind up in Wales?

Hi Marissa, Thanks for responding to my post, it's good to hear from another Cavalli. I know there are many of "us" in your area, in fact some time ago I recall walking past a "Cavalli Building" which housed a music store.
You go farther back than I do. I only go back to my Grandfather Antonio Cavalli born in Parma in 1845 emigrated here in 1911. Where did your Great Grandparents land here, was it through Ellis Island, and how did they travel cross country, that would be an interesting story. How big a family did they come from and did they all migrate to CA or did some stay East or in Italy? Sorry for so many questions but I've been trying to make some connections and so far, not much luck.
Take care hope to hear from you again.

Al

There is a Bertha Rose Cavalli who lives in California.
She is my husband's grandmother and her husband was
Angelo Cavalli. I know he was Italian and grew up in
the Chicago area - even drove a car for Al Capone in the
30's but left the business and went to California.
He worked on the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge and
my mother-in-law is officially the first baby on the bridge
because he took her up on it (have photo) before it was completed.
Rose is still alive and might have info on Cavalli's from
the Chicago area. Angelo had a sister who never married and
died in the early 80's.

Cavalli from Corniglio/Graiana

Hi, I am doing genealogy on Sillari and Simonetti from the Province of Parma, Comune of Corniglio, Village of Graiana. I have many CAVALLI in my line, am again today reading microfilm from that area. My family immigrated to Boston as did many others from the Parma area. I went to Italy just a year ago and spent a week in the village getting to know the family. Many of them have returned to restore the beautiful old houses there. One that is particularly lovely is the restoration of the old stable (Cavalli connection, I am sure) just below the summit of the now gone castle. I feel certain that Cavalli is connected directly to there and the care of horses since the stable is at the head of the trail to the summit. It was a fascinating time and I will be glad to share what I have of births, deaths, marriages, confirmations, etc. that I have recorded as a result of their connection to Simonetti and Sillari surnames.

Thank you for your inquiry. Maggini is a Swiss name. A relative in Switzerland searched the Church archives and found several Magginis listed. My Maggini relatives go back to the early 1800s and were in Intragna, Canton Ticino, Switzerland. I know very little about them. Does this answer your question? It is not a rare name in the Salinas Valley in California USA where I was born.

My Father was Guy Cavalli, first child born in the U.S. 16 Dec. 1885. His youngest brother was Barney Cavalli, born August 1891. In Soledad is all I Know. Information from Census. I vaguely remember him. He moved to the Central Valley, I think Modesto, but never heard anything else about him.
My Grandmother was Santina Maggini Cavalli. Are we related?
Of course, I am quite old, born in 1922 so this may not ber a connection.

I know Tito Cavalli is buried in Benicia, California and I believe Marco Cavalli is buried somewhere around Sacramento. There were other bothers and sisters as well but I don't have any idea whether they stayed in Switzerland or all moved together to the United States. Their father's name was Fedela Amatore Pacifico Cavalli.
