Frank, this link shows a child, Arnulfo Cavazos, baptized to Miguel Cavazos and Natalia Silva in General Teran, Nuevo Leon in 1906. It also shows the Arnulfo's grandparents. That could help some.

My name is Blanche...I was raised in Cuero by my grandparents for awhile (Hipolito & Basilia Cavazos)...My aunts & uncles were...Tony Cavazos, Adam Cavazos, Paul Cavazos,Mike Cavazos, Theresa Cavazos, Santos Cavazos, that's just some of them , my grandparent's had 17 children born to them. There are many of us in San Antonio now. We're probably related...I think I remember a junior ray, he was a deaf mute I believe. We used to have reunions in Cuero many years ago.I've been trying to find out where my grandparent's were originally from. Hope to hear back from you.

I'm trying to find any information on Miguel Cavazos who was married to Natalia Silva around 1905. Miguel may have been from Morelia, Mexico born around 1881. He and his family came to the US in 1921. They had 6 children, the youngest, Rafael, was my grandfather.

I think they came from Matamoros, Tamaulipas because this appears to be where Dionisia Cavazos (Luciano's sister?) was born to Ramon Cavazos and Dionicia Longoria, same parents for Luciano. So this could be your starting place.

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/X1K7-X8S

I found this information from Geni.com. Don't know if it is correct, but there is such a place in Italy! Thank you for clearing the coat of arms thing. I am happy that the copy I have is the correct one.

Re: Juan Cavazos and his ancestors - Coat of Arms

Coat of arms: On a gold shield, two silver-colored knights, assault each other with a sword in hand.

La Historia de su Apellido

Cavazos originates from "Cava" which is Latin for cave. It is a Spanish name that originated in Castilla in Old Spain.
Those of Mexico and America descend from Don Juan Cavazos, born in 1600 in Santa Maria, in old Castilla, Spain. He was the son of Gabriel Cavazos (of probable Italian ancestry) and Simona del Campo. He first appears in the Nuevo Reyno de Leon in 1630, or Monterrey. He held various positions in the town council of Monterrey: Regidor in 1635, 1653, 1658, 1673 and 1674. Ordinary mayor of first vote in 1666, 1669 and 1676; and of second vote in 1645, 1647, and 1655.

Compiled by Myra Smithwick, president of the Spanish American Genealogical Association. She can be reached through e-mail at sagacorpus@aol.com

He was married to Simona del Campo. Still trying to find what the Coat of Arms looks like. Let me know if you have one.

I thought Jewish was a religion.A last name is not a religion it is a race. Now it might be that some one in that family became a Jew then that is possible.I have a Sicilian friend that told me that it sounds more like a sicilian last name. That might be the explanation of the races involved.Arab,greek,italian,latin.Then Juan Cabassos was a fray there is signed documents with that signature. Can you please explain if I"m mistaken. Plus the King of Spain sent Juan Cavassos to Nuevo Leon to settle it with the families and christianize the indians? Thanks

Felix Leonides Cavazos was nicknamed "Chito." He was the 2nd of 9 children born to Leonides and Viviana.

In birth order, the children were Maria, Leonides (Chito), Jesus, Jose, Josefa, Esther, Sara, Elizabet (Bella), and Maria de la Luz (Luz). They also raised another child Petra, alleged to be the illegitimate daughter of a female relative. I long have suspected that Petra was Leonides' illegitimate daughter.

My grandmother was the youngest--Luz.

Leonides and Viviana owned an expansive ranch at China, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, where Leonides died shortly after his brother, then "General" Santos Cavazos, departed from the ranch for a second time after forcefully demanding again (threatening to hang Leonides) all Leonides' valuables for the support of his army during the Mexican Revolution. In the 1960s, Santos' military uniform was displayed in the museum at the old monestary above Monterey, Nuevo Leon.

Leonides and Viviana were 1st cousins. They built the church and the school at China, Nuevo Leon. After she was widowed, Viviana brought her remaining daughters across the border into south Texas where they remained. When she died in Monterey, Viviana was living with Petra and was crippled with arthritis.

Did "Chito" have only three children: Josephina, Leonides, and Elisabet?

First and Foremost....Thank You for the information that you have posted! Hopefully it can help some people in their search for family and it's history.
What caught my eye...was "Jose Lino Cavazos - Josefa Justa Garcia".
Now I am not sure that this is near to my relatives, BUT...my grandmother who is still living today (07/2010), did say that my great grandmother name was Josefa de Cavazos. Josefa, apparently married into the Cavazos name! Through what she has made mention....Josefa also had a maiden name of Alaniz-Tamez'....(is this true...don't know?).
My grandmother states that....her husband/my grandfather: Pedro Cavazos Ramirez.....mother "Josefa" was married to a Cavazos, however....he died early in their marriage before 1900. She did however have 2-children prior to his death (a boy and a girl) I have not been able to locate either/or. I also do not know if' they continued with their original fathers last name OR if they took on the adoptive name of Ramirez...when Josefa married Silverio Ramirez in Monterrey, Mexico. "All in All...my understanding is: That both Eulalio and Genoveva Cavazos were the children of Mr. & Mrs. Cavazos. Then when she married my great grandfather Silverio Ramirez....they then had 4 additional children: Juan, Beatriz, Manuela, and my grandfather Pedro C. Ramirez.
If any of this somehow resignates with possibly information...it truly would be a blessing.
My grandfather Pedro C. Ramirez, pasted away in La Feria, Tx. in 1978. I believe that Josefa past away in Monterrey somewhere around 1940's or late 40's.
Thank in Advance....
Rolando "Rhonn" Ramirez
Fort Worth, TX.

Very interesting. I myself am in search of Victoriana Cavazos, who was married to Roman Cruz. They had a daugther named Juanita Quintanilla who died in 1976, March. My ancestors included Cavazos, Alanis, Zenobio Longora. But have had not luck in finding information on Victoria. If anyone has information, please pass it along.

Hi there,
My name is Monique Galan. I have Cavazos in my family line and came across your post and becaome interested. My grandfather's name was Manuel Cavazos. His father's name was Simon and his mother was Santos. My grandfather had many brothers who spread throughout Texas near Mission and McAlLen, and San Antonio. I know he had sisters named Virginia and Tere (Teresa) and a brother Tarico and there was a Trinidad. There are several other names that I have heard of along the way too. There were some in the military too. I remember hearing of a religious story where Santos walked the street on her knees so that the Lord would bring her three sons home from the military safely. Crazy but kind of neat. I don't know--if anyone has similar stories, feel free to share.

He didn't say. He did mentioned that it is better for the Cavazos family to stay away. I know that my great grandfather was very abusive to my great grandmother and that he had to have done something to the government. Rumor has it that he had gold and he burried it somewhere in Tucson, Az. Some of us think that it has to be where he lived.
For all you CAVAZOS out there yes our name is of Jewish ancestry and the Jewish blood runs through our veins. My fathers family Juan De Dios CAVAZOS is entirely from Nuevo Leon Monterry Nuevo Leon de Juda MX. He is blue eyed and a very hairy man and so are most of the males in the family. My dads oldest brother Jose was always invited by the Jewish businessmen of Monterrey to join there fraternal parties. I myself and including my brothers have been thought of as Jews by the Jewish people we have met throughout our lives, I once had a Jewish diamond cutter talk to me and asked to look at my hands he thought I would be a good diamond cutter, most recently I met a former Cuban guard from the Cuban embassy in Downtown Mexico City D.F. he looked at me with and inquisitive look and he asked me in Spanish if I was a Turkish Jew, because most of the Turkish Jews work as diplomats throughout Latin America they still speak Spanish since the times of the Inquisition. My family and I have always considered ourselves as MEXICANS that goes without saying but to have this happen over and over that is something to just realize the facts. Life also has a strange twist because my wife is not Mexican but was adopted and of German ancestry but all the Jews we know and even people from Israel have said that my wife is most likely Jewish, even my sons closest friend is Jewish. I am a Latino and that will never be denied and so is the rest of my family and we are truly Mexicans. But our family lineage links us back to the Marranos from Spain.

My grandfather's name was EZRA CABASSO born c1884 in Ottoman held Syria/Palestine. His last surviving child, my mother, is Esther Cabasso born c1918 in JERUSALEM. She is over 90 years of age this year and could be closer to 92 years of age. She is the last surviving child of EZRA CABASSO who was about 99 years of age when he died c1983. Ezra married Fanie Goldfarb and their first child was Victor born c1914-1999, the second child was Leon 1916-2001, the third child is Esther born c1918, the fourth child was Alice c1920-c1975, the fifth child was Moshe born 1922-2005. EZRA CABASSO was one of 5 sons born to Sephardi Jews VICTOR and PAULISA/PAULINA CABASSO who made the journey from Southern France to Palestine using horses and donkeys. Paulisa was widowed early in her marriage and raised her brilliantly talented sons alone. They were: DAVID, EZRA, ISAAC, ALBERT, JACOB (died young). David and Ezra lived and died in Jerusalem; Isaac went to Egypt (his son Victor went to USA); Albert was an agent working between France and Palestine. My Mother's date of birth was not registered because her mother Fanie said that she gave birth to Esther on the day that the British walked into Jerusalem. This might refer to the Surrender of Jerusalem 9.12.1917 or General Allenby's entry into Jerusalem 11.12.1917. In such a critical moment of the war, the local civil service would understandably be out of action. Also Palestinian administration was then perhaps not up to modern day expectations regarding the registration of births and deaths. I am currently writing my Mother's memoirs and would like to be in touch with anyone else who is working on this or a related genealogy.

Hi Victor,
I'm wondering if you have any relatives with the same name as you. I have a greatgrandfather whose name was Victor Cavazos living in DeWitt Co then moved to Victoria city where all of his children were born. I am at a stand still with this name. I know nothing else about him except his kids and wife Cannuta. He was born sometime around 1881. Thank you for your time.
Angela Saenz Cavazos
