Re: Alderilda Cayer m. Eduoard-Louis Bergeron

It is interesting that you have heard that Alderilde is part native american. My great grandmother was Palmyre Houde LeBlanc. We have also heard that Palmyre's mother, Ludmille Bedard Houde, was half native american. Palmyre's grandmother was Julia Constance Sevigny. I believe that Julia Constance was the sister of Regis Sevigny. Regis was the father of Ludmille Sevigny, Alderilde's mother. Julia Constance Sevigny Bedard was the mother of Ludmille Bedard Houde. Ludmille Bedard Houde was Palmyre's mother. That would make Palmyre Houde Leblanc and Alderilde Cayer third cousins. I have been unable to find evidence of this native american ancestry. However, now I think that there must be something to this. We both heard the same type of thing. Our common denominator is the Sevigy name. I wonder if they were part native american. Also, Palmyre Houde Leblanc emmigrated to Dover, NH. I noticed that that there was a Cayer grave in St. Charles cemetery in Dover, NH that includes your ancestors. Please contact me.

Hello Jacques,

Your Marie-Louise CAYER does not seem to be closely connected to my line, but here is what I found:

George Sam Ratte reported on his Draft Registration card in Providence, RI that he was born at St-Apollinaire, Quebec on 6 Dec. 1886. I did not find a baptism there, but in nearby St-Flavien, there was a George Simeon Ratte born and baptized that date.

Interestingly, in locating "George Sam" in the 1901 Census AT St-Apollinaire, there was a Marie Louise Cayer in a family enumerated immediately before this Ratte family - she was one of a set of female twins born in St-Apollinaire on 24 June 1888 to Eleucippe CAYER and Marie CROTEAU.

George married the girl next door, it would appear.

I do not have access to Rhode Island marriage records to prove what I suspect for their parents, but if you need a link to the 1901 census, let me know and I will provide you with one.

Regards,
Shari Strahan
Massachusetts, USA

Caroline:
I am Suzanne LaPointe-Wodka
My Father was Arthur Joseph LaPointe lll and his father was also Arthur Joseph LaPointe ll who married Eleise Cayer Carrier in 1900. Her mother was Ester Cayer Carrier she married Pierre' Carrier in 1862.
But going back to the LaPointe's, Arthur Joseph LaPointe married Eliza Chartrand she died in 1911 and he died in 1910.
It seems that the LaPointes and the Chartrands and the Cayer/Carrier familys are all intertwined.
email me at metasue01@gmail.com

Thank you,

I had also found similar info. except that what I found was listing France Chartrand as Urgel's father. The info. I had found for the Cayer line was unsourced and thus had no way to verify that this was true but it seems you got further than I did by finding the marriage records. Thanks again for the sources.

Caroline

Hello Caroline,

Both MesAieux.com and BMS2000.org index your greatgrandparents' marriage:

BMS2000-
Urgel CHARTRAND, son of Francois-Xavier CHARTRAND and Hermeline DESJARDINS, married at Notre-Dame-de-Grace in Hull, comte Hull, to
Georgiana CAYER, the daughter of Leon CAYER and Lumina BRISSON
on the 24th of May 1918.

Mes Aieux has the same date and location, but gives different parents for Georgiana: Leon CARRIER and Delima BRISSON.

I decided to look at the Drouin microfilms for this marriage myself and decide which is correct. The page that covers the marriage in the Notre-Dame-de-Grace register was skipped!

The only possible CAYER marriage I could find for Georgiana's parents is:
Leon CAYER of Hawksbury, son of Leon CAYER and Emelie PICHE, was married at Ste Anne de Mattawa, Nipissing, Ontario
to Adeline BRISSON of Riviere Desert, daughter of Joseph BRISSON and Adeline VALLIERE
on the 20th of June 1887.

This may or may not be correct, but I think these are Georgiana's parents.

I have nothing further on this CAYER line.

Regards,
Shari

Hi Rich,

You and I were in contact earlier this month by email.

I know a lot more than when I posted the first message here several years ago.

Your Benjamin Cayer (m. 1859 St-Cuthbert to Adeline Lessard) was the son of Benjamin Benois Cayer who married in 1823 at Ile-duPas to Marie-Josephe Frique.
This Benjamin was the 9th child of Joseph Cayer and his second wife, Marie-Rose Legrave, who had married in 1785 at Sorel.

Joseph Cayer and Marie Rose Legrave are the first "common" ancestors between your line and mine:

Their 7th child, Basile, was married in 1816 at Ile-duPas to Charlotte Marchand.
Their son Alexis (b 1824), was married twice:
First, to Zoe Brissett, with whom he had 2 sons and 3 daughters. THESE TWO sons, Alexis (b 1844) and Prime, both lived in Rhode Island.
Next, Alexis (b. 1824) married Adeline Lincourt-Desorcy. Their son Benjamin, b. 1859 at St-David d'Yamaska, was my great grandfather, and the subject of my first message.

My Alexis (b. 1824) therefore probably named his son Benjamin after his uncle, your Benjamin Benois Cayer.

Regards,
Shari Strahan

Hi: I corresponded with you 2-3 years ago and you provided me with some family details that I was going to give to my grandfather, Aime George Rattey, which I never did. He died on February 26. I took your old post to the wake and gave it to his sister and she confirmed that this is the same family that you are looking into. She was going to give your post to a cousin who was doing the family genealogy. So she may be in touch with you. Marie-Louise and George Ratte had 10 children, one of whom died young. Ernest, Aime, Jerry (Gerard?), Leo, Roland, Estelle, Delores, Loretta, and Edna were the kids who survived. All the women and Leo are alive. I have an obituary for Olive Sauve that indicates that Marie-Louise's siblings were Olive, Aime, Wilfred, Aubert, Archille, Leonidas, Yvonne and Alice.
Norm Rattey

I looked at a programm in which we can find informations on the registers of Ste-Croix (1714-1800). Of course two children had been borned there during that period under the name Caillé: Marie-Suzanne,1753, and Jean-Baptiste,1766, but the later died on the year of its birth; I do not get yet the names of the parents but it does not seem that they got married there since they are not mentionned otherwise in the civil registers. If you get more informations maybe I coud help you. But I also found there an other family named "Cuillier" in a case and "Couiller" in the other: Joseph-Adam Cuillier was born in 1786 and François-Xavier Couiller was born and died in 1786. And Finally I found many LeCuyer: Jean-Baptiste, Charles, Antoine, Eustache, Charles, Euphrosine, Pierre-Marie, Marie-Thérèse, Louis, Marguerite. If you could provide me a little more information, I will be happy to tell you more if I can.

Hi,
I am presently working on my familly history and I have some informations related to Cayer's familly. Take note that all the Cayer's origin name is Caillé or Caillier or Cahier. It seems that there was 2 ancestors to emigrate to Canada: Caillé Antoine dit Brûlefer dit Biscornet 1674 and one Caillé Jean dit Le Picardier in 1683.
As per the Blue Drouin, Benjamin Cayer was the son of Alexis Cayer and Adeline Desorois-Lincourt married to Marie-Adélie Cardin (daugther of Grégroire Cardin and Esther Duhamel) on february 2, 1880 in St-Pie de Guire.

That's all I have for the moment. If you want more information, please let me know and I will try to get more.

Regrads,

Réal Cayer
Deux-Montagnes, Québec, Canada

I am researching information on this couple who were living in Saint-Antoine-de-Tilly in Lotbiniere, Quebec at the time of the 1901 census. They also died there, he in 1946 and she in 1957.
They had a daughter Odila (Leodila?) born Oct 4, 1889 or 1891. The census records differ from the birth records. The census record also indicates that this is a male rather than a female. Very confusing. Other children from this couple at the time were.. Charles b. Jan 13, 1887; Simeon born July 4, 1893; Marie born April 7, 1895; Adelard born Nov 15, 1898 and Delphis born Nov 26, 1899.

I would like to obtain more information on the couple and their children and confirm Odila's actual birth. If you can help in any way it would be most appreciated.
There are two David A. CAYER marriages in the Maine marriage index.

David A. CAYER m. Priscilla H. NOONE on 10-20-1956 Cert # 6309

David A.
Hi Wendy,

Margaret Cayer was born in 1872 in Deseronto. She was my grandmother. At age 9, she moved with her parents to Waubaushene Ontario (Simcoe county, Tay township).

She married Henry Tupper (my grandfather) and had 10 children (6 girls, 4 boys). Her children were Kathleen, John, Emily, Grant, Patrick, Jessie, Catharine, Dora, Henry and Agnes (Kathleen was the first born and Agnes was the youngest but I am not sure of the birth order in between).

Margaret Cayer is buried in the Catholic Cemetary in Parry Sound Ontario. She was a very old woman when I was a very young child but I do remember her.

Margaret (Peggy) Tupper
You may contact me direct at peggyt1243@aol.com for more info. I have photos.

Hi Richard,

I have a little more information for you, but unfortunately I did not make a note of Josephe FRIQUES' parents names. The Drouin says she married at Ile-du-pas, and Mariages du Comte de Berthier lists it as simply "Berthier," on 28 Oct. 1823 to Benjamin Benoit CAYER.

This FRIQUE name is also found as TRINQUE or TRINGE, and in the USA, as FREDRICK.

Found in St-Cuthbert for the 1881 Census:
Benoit CAYER Mar. Male French 80 Quebec Rentier Catholique
Josette FEDERIE Mar. Female French 81 Quebec Rentier Catholique

They are living next door to their son Pierre and his wife, Louise Patrie.

From Mariages du Comte de Berthier, Lucien Rivest: Montreal 1966:

Benjamin CAYER m. Adeline LESSARD on 4 July 1859 at St-Cuthbert.

I found information for 3 children, siblings to your Florida:

Louis CAYER m. Olivine AYOTTE on 24 Jan. 1881 at St-Barthelemy.

Calixte CAYER, b. about Aug. 1868, died 2 Jan. 1869 at St-Barthelemy.

Joseph-Benjamin CAYER, b. 9 May 1872 at St-Barthelemy, died 26 Feb 1947 at Woonsocket, RI. He married in Woonsocket, Josephine CREPEAU on 23 Nov. 1896

Adeline LESSARD died before Jan. 1879, because Benjamin CAYER, widower, married Adeline ALLARD. (I did not make a note of her parents) on 21 Jan. 1879 at St-Berthelemy.

I know of one son for this couple, therefore a half-brother to your Florida:

Wilfred CAYER, b. about Aug 1880, m. Julianna TRUDEL on 10 Sept 1900 at St-Bathelemy. This couple had at least 7 children at St-Barthelemy, and Wilfred died there in 1954.

From: Saint-Barthelemy Comte de Berthier 1828-1992 Tome 3, (Societe Genealogique de Lanaudiere), p 77 - Benjamin CAYER died on 19 Jan. 1918.

I hope this opens up new research for you.

Regards,
Shari
