Hello, My name is Karen Rourk & my great-grandfather was DONACIANO CHACON, son of Rafael Chacon. He was either adopted or illegitimate, I'm not sure which. Donaciano, by arranged marriage, married Maria Luz de la Martinez 'Lucy', my great-grandmother.

Proof that RAFAEL CHACON was DONACIANO CHACON’S father is evidenced on the 1900 United States Federal Census where 24 year-old Donaciano, misspelled as “Donociano” was listed as living with his then 67-year-old father, RAFAEL CHACÓN, and Rafael’s 56-year-old wife, JUANITA PAIZ HURTADO, who was not Donaciano’s mother. [Note: Juanita’s real surname is actually Paez, but the spelling was corrupted. Her father’s name is spelled correctly as Paez.] 1900 Census Microfilm Records: Colorado. Page 299. Supervisor's District No. 2, Enumeration District No.6, Sheet No. 4. RAFAEL CHACÓN, head of household, age 67, born April, 1833, New Mexico Territory, married 42 years. Stock Raiser. Rent. JUANITA P. CHACÓN, wife, age 56, born Mar 1844, New Mexico Territory, married 42 years, LADISLAO CHACÓN, son, age 27, born July 1872, Colorado, single. Occupation: School Teacher. DONOCIANO CHACÓN, son, age 24, born Oct 1876, Colorado, single. Donaciano’s occupation was a Day Laborer in Maxwell Princinct 24, Las Animas County, Colorado.

_____

MARIA LUZ DE LA JESUS MARTINEZ (LUCY) was born on 15 Aug 1889 at L’Abbe (Segundo or Trinidad), Colorado. Luz was baptized on 06 October, 1889. She married DONACIANO CHACON on 27 May 1905 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church (Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, Baptismal Register: Vol. 6, Page 35.) by FATHER ANTHONY BRUNNER, in Trinidad, Las Animas County, Colorado. Her sponsor was BENIGNA MARTINEZ. Lucy and Donaciano were both living in Segundo, Colorado. Witnesses were EMEPGILDO VELARDE [Note: See page 65 of Meketa’s Legacy of Honor. A Juan Velarde is shown as Rafael’s uncle.] and ISABEL CORDOBA (Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, Baptismal Register: Book 5, page 264).

I have been told that Juanita Paiz was present at Donaciano's wedding and Rafael & Juanita are listed on his death certificate as his parents.

Do you know who ISABEL CORDOVA could have been?

Thanks.
Karen Rourk
krourk1@prodigy.net
Hi Norm.

I have done quite a bit of research on the Chacon family in the area. I live in Seguin, about 32 miles east of San Antonio. You and your wife have some very interesting reading to do on the family. Just some highlights so to speak of. Carlotta's father, Carlos Chacon fought in Capt. Juan N. Seguin's company at the Siege of Bexar (who is also related to us by marriage as well) during the Texas war for independence. Juan Seguin married the daughter of Maria Antonia Rodriguez and Jose Antonio Flores de Abrego. The family of whom the city of Floresville is named after. Carlos Chacon married Antonia Rodriguez in 1847. She is a direct decedent of two of the sixteen original Canary Islander families that first settled San Antonio in 1731. I will get something together for you and your wife this weekend with an ancestry line of the Chacon family back to 1622 in the Canary Islands(Rodriguez family). Here is my email address. You can email me anytime. I am glad to be of help. When I started doing this, the person who helped me told me, if you get the chance to help someone else, that's what you owe me. If you don't mind, may I have your email address please. Thanks.

Andrew Rivera Luna Sr.

andpat@swbell.net

This is GREAT news!!

Carlota (correct my spelling where appropriate) Botello was my wife's (Adela Farias) GGG-Grandmother. My father-in-law's sister, who died as a small child was also named Adela Farias. As you may have already noticed, a lot of given names repeated in family lines.

I only have Carlota (Chacon) Botello's parents, Carlos & Antonia (Rodriguez) Chacon, and nothing further back in that line. I have Victor Botello's parents as Francisco Sr. & Maria Petronila (Gonzalez) Botello. I then have Francisco Sr. parents as Jose Antonio & Maria Jesus Botello - I don't have Maria's parents or sibs. For Jose Antonio I have parents Joaquin & Maria Gregoria (Barrera) Botello - nothing further back.

Do these agree with your tree?

If so, I'd love to have those that you have to fill in the blanks.

Cheers,

Norm

Lupe,
Chilhuahua is the source of a all Chacons I have found. The Texas famous Carlos Chacon lived in Seguin Texas. My Texas Chacons farmed the Chacon creek until World war II. Eusebio my great grand father moved to Texas after the US civil war to Persall Texas. They came from (which is now) Chacon New Mexico. The Chacon creek runs from Lytle Texas to Mexico (named for Carlos). These were frontier people , trained in Chilhuahua and entered the what was then the frontier. My great father had sons Juan, Maxilamo. Lino. Max had Eusibio my father. As you do your research keep in mind Chacon's were frontiers people they married men and women indian people. Other Chacon's do not want to know they are part american natives (Indians). Some Chacon males
suffer from Dupuytren check your mens hands (over forty)
they are Chacons Indians or not.

Helena had a brother name Antonio, I do not know if his full name was Jose Antonio or not. Helena had several brothers and sisters, but I am reluctant to list because I am not positive who is what since many of these families had parents, grandparents, siblings, cousins, neices, nephews etc in one household. Email me if you want to exchange information. martie_watson@yahoo.com

More information about the Chacón last name in Spain in Corral de Almaguer:

See More

For those of you looking for information about the Chacón family originated in Ensenada, Puerto Rico. The patriarch of the Chacón family was Julián Chacón Martínez-Villanueva. He was born in a town of Toledo, name Corral de Almaguer, province of Castilla y La Mancha. I will copy the information in Spanish, but let me know if you need the translation in English. This information was written by a distance relative here in Spain, and he is a member of the geneology asociation of the town of Corral de Almaguer:
