Hard to figure out what is going on with William McKinley. He is listed in

In Pension Records for Jesse Mills, filed with the Department of Interior,

The Commissioner of Pensions

Sir,
In Perrsuace Certificate No. 539333 of Jesse Mills, Co. F 45 Ky Inf, will
say that a sheet of paper said to be a true coppy of the Bible records of
all births of the Mills Family and I find the name of Jesse Mills recorded
as follows Jesse Mills was born December 11th, A.D. 1845. There is no
erasure or alteration and I cannot give date of Bible. This sheet of paper
records has been written several years ago but not 68 years as the paper is
turning yellow save

In a General Affidavit from Harvey Lovins, age 66 of Ceredo, Wayne County,
West Virginia, dated May 29, 1907:
Sometime in the year of 1864 Jesse Mills of Co F 45 KY ??? Inf was taken
sick at Ervin KY and was sent to the hospital and I never saw him for about
2 months and he was sent back to regiment and when he came back he was still
very poorly and not able to do any duty. My reasons for knowing so much
about Jesse Mills is we both belonged to the same company and mussed
together and he complained of heart trouble and his stomach was swollen at
times further this deponant saith not.

There are a couple personal notes in the library file. One looks to be to
someone named Opal from someone named Garnet, concerning birthdates and
such. It is very hard to read the copy that I have. The letter looks as if
it reads:
Opal,
Hope this can be some help for you. I was many years going here and there
and everywhere trying to find out all I could. I have most of the names of
the children of the ones, I have wrote down for you. This goes back 80
years. If you should get or have any information that I didn't have, I would
be glad to have it for my records. Hope this helps you. Good luck in finding
out more about our tree.
Your Cousin
Garnet

These are some personal notes that were in the file:
Wiliam Jarrell M. Dec 5, 1886
Susan Mills
at Jess Mills house
Witness George Jarrell and Harrison Jarrell
Signed G. W. Jarrell, Minister
A note written at the bottom states: Can not get a copy of this, she said
William was old enough married in 20's.

Another personal note in the file:
William Jarrels married?
Susan Mils Dec 4, 1886
William born ?
Susan born 1-20-1867 D?
Whom is William parents, where is he from

Call Garnet
ask where Frank's children lived at. Ask about Jess and Nannie

In an email Received from Carrie Crum:
"Okay I have only two sheets in the file that mention the children. The
first
one is dated Aug 8, 1898 and it is a question sheet sent to the pensioner to
be filled out and returned to the Bureau of Pensions. One of the questions
says "Have you any children living?" Jesse Mills answered:
Susan Mills born JAn 20 1867
Sanford Mills July 27 1869
Mary Mills Nov 29 1875
Albert Mills Sep 1, 1877
Rachel Mills Sept 1880
Manda Mills Aug 14, 1884 ?
Elen Mills May 8 1888
Jesse Mills Oct 12 1894
Now on another form dated April 5, 1915 he has filled out another question
sheet for the Bureau of Pensions and the 9th question states "State the name
and dates of birth of your children, living or dead"
He lists all the same as above and then adds:
Melvin Mills born Dec 20, 1871 Deceased
Rachel Mills Sept 18, 1880 deceased
Elizabeth Mills April 20 1870 deceased
Geo W. Mills Aug 17, 1879 deceased
Francis Mills Sept 21, 1883 deceased
He listed their birthdates but not dates of death. I would guess that Rachel
died before April 5th, 1915 because that is the date of the paper. If that
is right she only lived to 35.
There is no other mention of children in the file. Some of the children and
other family members signed and witnessed papers throughout the years."

Obit was found by Jackie P. Sadler-Journey, in which - his name is listed
incorrectly.
Miller (Mills), Jesse
Death claimed another one of Ohio's Veterans of the Revolutionary War
Saturday evening when Jesse Miller, 84, of Nauvoo, well known resident of
Scioto County, passed away at his home. Mr. Miller (Mills) was a retired
farmer and lived a quiet life at his home during his last years. He was very
fond of narrating incidents of the war to the many children who enjoyed
sitting on his lap and listening to the interresting tales. The war veteran
is survied by his widow, Martha Miller (Mills), and several sons and
daughters. The children are: Sanford Miller (Mills) of Nauvoo, Hallow Miller
(Mills) of Tenth street; Albert Miller (Mills) of Arion; Mrs. Cora Rudity of
Rushtown; Manda, Jessie and MRs. Susan Cropper (Cooper) at home. Funeral
services will be held from the home, Third and Custer (Custus) Streets,
Nauvoo, Monday afternoon at 1 o'clock. Rev. Sowards of Nauvoo Pentecostal
Church will have charge of the services. Interment will be made near
McDermott.

Info. from L. Herbert Dawson by e-mail on 6/28/1997 states the following:

Several years ago he interviewed Frosty Romans who was 92 at the time. He
knew the story of Jesse as follows: Jesse first married a lady by whom he
had no children and then had an affair with a Mosley woman, whom he named as
Josephine and had at least one son. After death of first wife, he married a
much younger
woman, Sarah Jane Music.

He also interviewed a great grandson of Jesse who also had heard the same
story. Herb never told the grandson of the previous story but the two were
the same. There is no doubt truth to the story with only the name incorrect.
Josephine was the dau. of Malinda who was d/o Martha. It is Martha who no
doubt was the "Mosely" woman.

My name is Bobby Gene Chaffin and I was wandering if anyones list shows any of these names.

Mainly looking for Thomas A. Chaffin's Father and background

Liza DALTON was born ABT. 1878. She was the daughter of 2. Isaac DALTON and 3. Rhoda JARRELL. She married Thomas A. Chaffin, He was born ABT. 1878.

Children's Names in 1930 Census of Thomas A. Chaffin (58) and Liza (Dalton) Chaffin (54) at time of Census, That would make thier actual date of births different from the above ABT.

Liza (Dalton) Chaffin........DOB 1876

=================================================
This is the oldest son of Thomas A Chaffin and my Grandfather was Aserey (Ezra) Chaffin. He lived in Martin Co., Inez, Ky. untill 1960....His dad moved around alot, so I don't know where he was living before 1930??? It seems like I keep coming up with dead ends when I try to track down Thomas A. Chaffin's dad. I keep trying to pull up any Chaffin that had a son named Thomas A. Chaffin, but think he might have missed the 1880 census or died before then and that is the oldest census that I can pull up. If he shows up on your list, I would really appreciate it if you could e-mail me back, If not, thanks alot for your time.

Thanks
Bobby Gene Chaffin
