Donna: Have been trying to confirm a connection to a Chagnon Family from St. Hyacinthe, Quebec. Toussant and Emile were married in a mission in New Hampshire and the repository from that record is also in NH (can't remember where and lost the information in a computer crash). Their first two children were born in NH. George and Josephine both in the early 1870's. Josephine's death certificate reads born in Great Falls, NH which is now Sommersworth. I have not been able to locate any of the NH records as I would have to depend on someone living in the area to look for them for me. If you are able, I would really appreciate your halp.

Were you able to learn anything about this relative? Has anyone done a search at Vital Records in NH for you? My Chagnon ancestors didn't come to NH until 1920 or so and so I haven't looked for their death records but would be willing to look for Toussaint (John) or his wife for you.

I am looking for information on Elizabeth Chagnon possibly born in Southbridge MA. All I know about her is that she was Joseph Varin's 2nd wife. Joseph Varin was born 10 Oct 1861 or 1862 and died around 1949. He was married to Georgianna Gagnon on 20 April 1885 in SouthBridge, Mass USA. Georgianna I believe died in 1900. So the marriage could have been after that, I am not positive. I know Joseph Varin had a daughter with Georgianna Gagnon named Lydia Varin born 21 July 1898-1975. Lydia was born in Southbridge, MA, USA. Any information on Elizabeth would be greatly appreciated.

I am trying to find information on my gg grandfather Luke Changon. I believe he was born 19 Sep 1858 in Milton, Chittenden, Vermont (but some sources say he was born in Canada) and he died 29 Aug 1918 in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. I believe his parents were Charles Chagnon and Josephete Milotte. I know that Luke had an older brother named Eli, but that is all I know. Please let me know if any of this sounds familiar or if you have any research tips for me.

I had my mtDNA tested and I am a direct descendant of Catherine Pillard, Mother to daughter. It may not be earth shattering to find this but my brother had his DNA tested for me and we always knew we were French, however we did not know we were Scandinavian on our dad's side. It seems we come from an area of France that the vikings conquered thus our background.

It's been a long time since we touched base. Today I found Prime Chagnon's record of Baptism. Ancestry.com now has the Drouin sp? collection on line. Prime is indexed as Prime Chasson, but if you look at the record, he is listed as Prime Chagnon son of Jean Baptiste Chagnon and Ursule Lafleur. He was baptisted in Vercheres in July 1825.

Also, Ursule Lafleur is also named Ursule Giboulon dit Lafleur. She died around 1836 in Vercheres. It looks like Jean Baptiste Chagnon did immigrated to VT and was living with his son Charles Chagnon/Shonzan(listd as John Shawyer on the 1850 Census in So. Hero VT) and then with his son Jean Baptiste/John(listed as John Shonyo on the 1870 Census in Milton VT).

Searching for information on a Toussaint (John) Chagnon who married Emilie Lamy/Lamie in Great Falls, New Hampshire. (This is now Sommersworth, New Hampshire) Date of marriage was 9 February 1869. Emilie was born in 1847. They left there shortly thereafter and moved to Manitoba, Canada. There is a possibility that they were originally from Canada before going to New Hampshire. Gainesville, Fla. - Roger G. Chagnon Sr., 90, died Sunday (Dec. 21, 2003) in his home in Gainesville.
He had a lengthy career in the practice of law, which started in New Hampshire and continued after World War II in New York, Ohio, and Maine. He was a long-time member of several Rotary Clubs, having served locally as president of the Falconer Rotary Club. He was also a trustee of the Mount Desert Island Hospital and of the Abbe Museum. Locally, he had served as president of the Chautauqua Lake Association and the Western New York Truck Owners Association, and was a member of the Bemus Point Central School Board of Education.
He was an avid golfer until the age of 88 and took great pride in having been able to shoot his age on several occasions. In Maine, he and his wife took great pleasure in acquiring an old farm on Mount Desert Island and learning to grow vegetable and fruits organically, as well as raising sheep and trout.
He ius survived by his wife, Bodil Chagnon; four sons: Robert Chapin of Delray Beach, Fla., Dean Chagnon of Indianapolis, Roger G. Chagnon Jr.of Westfield, and Pierre Chagnon of Bemus Point; two daughters, Nancy Chapin of Delray Beach, and Denise Chagnon of Jamestown; 10 grandchildren: Riley Chapin of Delray Beach, Lisa Chapin of Austin, Texas, Deanna Hoops of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Cindy Briglin-Mavady of Sherburne, N.Y., Andrea Truax of Southington, Conn., Katrina Heycock of Carlisle, Pa., Roger G. PLATTSBURGH — Mr. Robert R. Chagnon, 70, of Military Turnpike, passed away Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at the Albany Veterans Hospital in Albany, N.Y. He was born in Plattsburgh on Aug. 22, 1931, the son of Arthur and Hazel (Tebo) Chagnon.

Robert was an avid fisherman. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during Korea. Robert is survived by his wife, Pauline (Provost) Chagnon of Military Turnpike; two sons, Robert R. My grandfather was John Chagnon. He was born in Canada around 1876. He moved to Northampton, MA and also lived in Leeds/Easthampton, MA at various times. It appears that his mother was Malvina...at least according to the 1900 Federal Census for Northampton. She is listed as the head of household. Her son John and a few other children are listed there.

Ooh, looks like we're related! I just learned of Malvina's name today. So, is John Baptiste her husband? What info do you have? I take it that one of her children is your grandparent. Who?

My father, Frank (Francis) Chagnon was born in Northampton, MA (Leeds section) in 1921. His father, John Chagnon was born in Sherbrooke, Canada around 1876. John married Delina Chouinard. I am not certain of her birthdate or birthplace (other than she was also from Canada). They raised their family of 7 children in Northampton, MA. There was also someone named Hubert listed in a Northampton town listing around the same time as John and Delina Chagnon.

Any information regarding the Sherbrooke connection is most appreciated.

Hi I am looking for information regarding the Chagnon family. My great grandfathers name was William Paul Chagnon b.1872 in Bedford Canada. He was married to Marie Rose Bleau b.1871 in Bennington, VT. They had four children, Theodore b.1902, Randolph b.1905, Isabelle b.1907, and Pauline b.1910. and lived in North Adams, MA. Looking for parents and place of death of Octave Chagnon m. Emma Levesque.
1901 Canadian Census has Octave b:18 Feb 1864.
Emma's parents are Hippolyte and Honorine Talbot.
Their last child, Noel, was born in Dec 1907 at St Valerien, as was his brother, Valerien, in 1905, although several of their older children were born in the US.
Emma was listed in Easthampton, MA, USA in 1914 as a widow and died in Easthampton in 1917. Can anyone help?

Some Chagnons in Vermont changed their name to Shiner. My branch includes Francis X. Chagnon who married Catherine Lacroix (1st) and Olive Ledoux (2nd) to Jerome Chagnon & Charlotte Rousseau (Vercheres, PQ) to Francis X. Chagnon & Genevive Charon, etc.

I'd be interested in information on Catherine Lacroix and when Francis Chagnon was born because some info says 1809 which I find hard to believe - that would be two years after his father, Jerome, married. Jerome had three sons that I'm aware of - Charles who married Zoe Hebert, Jerome Jr. who married Adelaide Geoffrion, and Francis.

Dear Gilles, My grandfathers name is Remi Chagnon he was born in Vercheres,PQ in the late 1870's or early 1880's. He died in Pittsfield MA in the mid 1950's. He move to Gardner MA and Rhode Island in the early 1900's before settling in Pittsfield. He married Blanche Gagnon who died of the swine flu in 1920. My fathers name is Emile Joffre Chagnon. He was an only child who passed in 1996. He never talked about his mom or dad. If you have any information regarding my Grandmother or grandfather i would appreciate it very much. My great grandfather was George Chagnon from I believe the Lowell, MA area.As far as I know he moved to Worcester, MA in the late 1800's.Was married to Julia and had 2 children named Auther and Hortence (Doris). Hortence married Stewart Penny and had a son Donald. She later married Felix Brissette. Any information on George and any of the others named above would be appreciated. Hi Giles. My great grandfather Remi Chagnon was naturalized from quebec and moved to Pittsfeild Mass. My grandfather Remi jr. .had many brothers. One Aime - they both married Gagnon sisters around 1910? Another Francis who was preist in Platsburg NY. My Dad, now deceased, was a musician and served in the Army Air Corp in WW2 in Australia. B24 radar navigator with 5th air force 380th BG.

Today is my Dad's Birthday April 21st!

26 1872 in Quebec he was the son of Delende chagnon and Henriette fournier he married Albertine Lessard Sept 26 1892 in Fall River Massachusetts.

Do you have any information on these people all I have is genelogy list that goes back to the 14 generation.
