John Arthur Chaisson from Conn. b. 1925

Hello,

My maiden name was Chaisson. My father John Chaisson was never a part of my childhood so I don't know a whole lot about him. I am interested in finding out anything I can about the "Chaisson" side of my family. I know he was born in Conn. and had 2 sisters--both sisters were older than my father. Also he had a cousin (male) that was orphaned at a young age and grew up with him. In Florida, my father had an affair and fathered 2 children out of wedlock in the early '60's, so somewhere I have a half brother and sister that I have never met. I don't suppose I will ever find them as it is doubtful that they took my father's last name.

Chaisson of St. Martinsville, Welsh, and Jennings LA

Hello everyone:

I am tring to locate any information on my husbands family. Below is what I know is concrete information. If you could add anything to it or send me in the right direction I would forever be greatfull.

Amar Chaisson: B 1848 D: 1870 in St. Martinsville Parish. He married Augustine Clavel.

Amar Chaisson had son named Amar, but I'm alittle confused on the birth date. I have it listed as 1871 but that would be after Amar Sr. died.

Amar (Jr). married Celimente Babineaux who was born in 1870. Their son Edmond Chaisson was born in 1909 and Died in Roanoke La in 1976.

Edmond married Rose Marie Allemend and together they had eight children: Raymond, Willis, Paul, Joseph, Mabel, Ruth, John Martin, and Lois.

If anyone has anything on this family and are willing to share it would be greatly appericated.

Looking for Chaisson brothers in SW Louisiana

I'm looking for the parentage of two brothers who lived in the Lafayette/ St Martin Parishes of Louisiana. Their names were Louis and Basile Chaisson. I have not been able to find a marriage of Basile but Louis was married first to Monique Comeaux and second to Anne Marie Thibodeaux. Family story says that they immigrated to Louisiana from Martinique, but I have not been able to prove this. Who were these brother's parents and where did they really come from. Thanks for your time.

Are you still doing research on this family name? My mother had three brothers who had this last name and the only info I can find is when my grandmother passed away in Arkansas. The boys are listed on the census with my grandmothers name but she died about 2 months later. Her married name at the time was Lena Murphy and they were in Eureka Springs AR. I am at a loss as to locating them. The boys names are Johnie, Joseph and Ancil. I have a couple of the school records and one name is spelled Chaisson and the other is Chaison. There father was born in LA. Any information or direction would be great.

Lost Brothers - Chaisson

I am looking for any information on my mothers 3 older brothers who are lost to the family after my grandmother died in 1929. Lena Murphy(from Galena, KS)passed away on June 5, 1929 leaving behind 6 children and my mother is the youngest child born to her. When we located the census records in Eureka Springs, AR, she was living with her mother Chloe Goodwin and had 6 children. The older 3 boys had the last name of Chesian on the census and their father was from Louisiana. School records indicate the last name as actually (Joseph)Chaisson or (Ancil)Chaison and Lena is listed as the parent. The school record shows they had lived in Springdale, AR. Their names are Johnie (no school record) BRN 1916-1917, Joseph BRN 1918-1919 and Ancil BRN 1920-1921. I have had no luck locating anyone with information on these men. The other two children are Evaline Murphy BRN 1925-1926 and Charles BRN 1927-1928. Any information on any of these people would be wonderful.

Hi, thank you for the information response so quick. Clarence whose mother was a Newcomb from England - an immigrant arriving here in her early years as a youngster said she got off the boast and down the gnag plank, lost her only doll and it fell overboard as she walked off the boat. My newcomb grandmother was quite a woman ahead of her time. I know she married Farmer Tufts in New Hampshire, and is buried next to the Exter Academy as Estelle Clara Rogers. I think that my grandmother married a Dourethy (spelling?) too.

When I talked to clarence or "Larry" as he told me to call him, he said he had lots of fun with his brother, from his second marriage of Aubin Chaisson to my unknown full blooded American Indian Grandmother. Last night crusing around the Chaisson site, I did see an entry of a lady looking for anyinformation on Cecil Chaisson a full blooded American Indian married to a Chaisson, an Homa Indian in Montegut, LA in 1939, which near my father birthday of March 11, 1934. Maybe she is the daughter of Cecil.

I have found two Chaisson in the phone book here in Maui.
I talked to one for a while and he mentioned that his parents are in Fl. because Glouster or nearby was just too cold. He said he came here in the 1970's and his brother followed him soon after. He has blond hair and hazel eyes and his brother has brown hair and blue eyes. I wanted to meet his wife and daughter with my beau Les for lunch or something and he never called back. I did find where he works and what he does at the local mall, I WILL CHECK HIM OUT first AND maybe accidentally bump into him or something...SURPRISE HIM. What is so ironic is that they go to the church of my oncology nurse for 9 years at Kaiser in Wailuku. She knows them because her husband had a mid life change and became pastor about 3 years ago, of the church both attend! It is ironic that they also use the french prounciation of the Chaisson family name. He sounded like an older gentleman.....I will post their names from the phone book, and who knows what will happen next...hee-hee

I am sure there is a connection. I think that is where the conection of the tickets to attend the concerts everytime the Chaisson Orchestra was in the Boston Area, with the store of Bill who was is in the established music scene. I wish I knew the store, I'd call him up tomorrow. Maybe I'll look for Bill Chaisson.

There seems to be a little bit of caution..... since the Chaissons I spoke never heard of us or me, derservedly so. That is why I am waiting to get my bone marrow transfusion so I can take of driving to the east coast and Pei and Yourself of course. Thanks, MEC

Larry served in the service in northern africa while my father was in vietnam. My father's mother said when he asked about him .....saying that he died in the war.

I guess we know so other Chaisson's or them of us since we were all over the place with my father being in the military.

also Eric CHaisson wrote me in an e-mail that he was in Maui for a project using or rather using the famous telescope on top of Mt. Haleakala in the late 1900's for Harward and has a daughter, probably about 10 grade in highschool.

Hi to all who read these postings and all the branches that are added to them.

There is only one Giasson/Chiasson/Chaisson to trace back to in the beginning...the beginning of Acadia that is- and his name was Guyon Giasson dit lavalee. When each of you can trace back as far as you can go, and hit a wall...contact me, I may be able to get you beyond the blockade. I also know that the last name Jeanot/Jeanotte and similar spellings, are also of the Chiasson line it happened because a boy said his name was "so and so" Jeannette perhaps - being the son of a widow and going by her first name. They wrote it down that way in english and walla! a new last name was created and he was now a Jeannotte. It sounds crude, but such was the way a French boy would have sounded to a British soldier or census taker and it would have been written phoenetically - not necessarily properly. That is the way history is made and branches of our tree get extended. I would like to know if Clarence in Mass is related to a Bill Chaisson from around that area. I believe Eric is related to same. There is a music store in Boston i think and owner is a drummer...chaisson line too. If any of you have your genealogy in an email..please send it to me and I can help you fill in some blanks. Love to all of you and good health too. Louise

Dear Michelle, According to Uncle Clarence in Chicopee, Mass we are from the musical Chaisson's. I am not sure where they are located on PEI. I do know they were in Mass two years ago for a concert and he could not make it. I wish I could locate a CD. Also I made contact with Eric Chaisson an astrophysicist at Harvard and Tufts. My students received personal e-mails from him about their study of the Solar System. I guess he has taken the lead when Carl Sagan passed away. I know he said he stays in Maine with his family. Does anyone know of him? He has his web page on the net. What a very nice man, taking out time to reply to my students, I did use state we might be distant related....I guess that helped.

Cousin, Wow so glad to hear from you! Peter, Joseph, and Aubin were brothers. Aubin Joseph is my Grandfather, buried in California with his second wife. There is only one grandchild in our family. Her name is Ashley Ahmed. Her mother changed her name after her divorce from my brother youngest brother Edward Joseph Chaisson. He recently returned to San Antonio. My brother junior to me is John Joseph Chaisson. He will be moving to Palm Springs later this spring. He lives in Seattle for now.
My Mother Yoshiko Chaisson is living in Garden Ridge, Texas. We both plan on attending the concert in the 3rd week in July in Prince Edward Island and visiting Uncle Larry for the first time.
Chaisson's July Concert

Thank You so much. My mother and I will defintely be there. Just look for the half Japanese-Arcadian looking Chaisson, that's me Marilyn, and my Japanese Mom, Yoshiko. I am so happy to hear of such a large contingent of relatives steeped deep in familial musical traditions. For my Mother it will be coming full circle late in her life since she married my Father Aubin Jr. after the Korean War and left her culture for a faraway land all in the name of love and bore him three more Chaisson's. John Joseph, Edward Joseph, Marilyn Estelle.
She will be seventy and this will be her last trip to the NE.
I regret my Father passed on three years ago and never knew of his extensive heritage. Aloha and Sayonara,MEC

Dear Wado, we are related. My granfather was Aubin Joseph Chaisson, my Father was JR. and Aubin had two brothers Joseph and Peter. I spoke to my Uncle Larry and he said the relatives in PEI are musicians. They were in the Chicopee, Mass area last August for a concert he was not able to make. Please reply back. My mother in her 70's will be taking her last trip back East this August. Both of us would like to meet Uncle Larry (Clarence Joseph) Chaisson and any extended family we would have. We would be interested in meeting the folks in PEI also. I await your reply.
Marilyn Estelle Chaisson

Chaisson last name

I come from Prince Edward Island where half of the Chaissons spell the name "ai" and the other "ia". In the western region of the province,"ia" is more popular. The west end of the island is more French. The eastern part of the island which is "ai" has lost the use of the French language-mostly due to the British landlords of the day and for the Chaissons to fit in they anglosized the name. I do not know if the spelling there has a similar past to relate to but for the islanders here... it makes sense. I hope my information lets you know that there are Chaissons here in Canada, and on what use to be Isle St. Jean.

Dear Wad,
I would very much like to compare notes with you. You must be related to the Cyprian Chaisson line. I am related to you, it may be distantly but related just the same. My father is Lem Chaisson. He is a singer/guitar player who has 2 cd's out right now. He performs with the Chaissons orchestra which include Kenny and Kevin and Peter Chaisson as well as Susan Campbell Jackson. If you have ever been to the Rollo Bay FIddling Festival then you have heard these people perform. I would like to contact you more. My home email is l.mackinnon@pei.sympatico.ca
Please contact me and we will swap info.

Our Chaissons come from LaRochelle, France and our first person in Acadia was Guyon. It seems that Guyon was the first Chiasson/Giasson in Acadia and started this name and all its descendants. Thank God for him! He was the son of Pierre Chiasson and Marie Peroche of LaRochelle France. They never came to Acadia but Guyons 4 sisters did and they became some of the "foremothers" of many Acadian family lines. Joubert, Gendron, Chapalain,Hurtault and BonHomme to name a few.

I hope to hear from you soon,

Louise

Hi!

You should plan a trip to PEI for the third weekend of July.
There is a HUGE concert weekend then and you will be overwhelmed by the amount of Chiasson/CHaisson family you will meet and get the chance to hear at that concert.
This event is held in Rollo Bay- not far from Souris. These are outdoor concerts (weather permitting) and then there are dances at night. camping is availabe on a first come first serve basis. It is a wonderful weekend of entertainment.

As well, every Thursday night during the summer (except for a few) there are ceildhs (Kaylees) which are musical entertainment evenings, these are held on the same grounds as the above mentioned concert. They are held indoors and are very well attended.

Hope that we will meet then!
take care,
Louise

Sara born December 16, 1875 was the daughter of Jean Louis Chiasson and Monique Albert. Jean Louis was the son of Augustin and Clotilde Parise while Monique Albert was the daughter of Seraphin Albert and Sara Paulin. Jean Louis was a fisherman/seacaptain. He was on his way home after a week at sea when a heavy gale blew up at sea and overturned the boat. Jean Louis was lost and so were his two boat hands: Luc Doiron and Sylvester Frigault. Jean Louis' widow, Monique remarried George Gionet son of Philias Gionet. I do not have Philias's wifes name.

Anyway, Jean Louis and Moniqe had other children: Marie 1878, Luce 1879,Agathe 1881, Philomene 1883.

Sara 1875, married Philorome Lanteigne son of Philorome and Agathe LeBouthillier, on January 13, 1896.

I have no further information on Sara and Philorome.

I hope this helps you out. I can go back farther on Jean Louis side if you would like.
Please contact me through my personal email address: l.mackinnon@pei.sympatico.ca
It looks like we are related I am also related to Jean Louis. I am a Chaisson from Rollo Bay Prince Edward Island. NOt far from where Wad called Bear River. I am related to all the Bear River Chaisson clan so I must contact Wad next.

Happy climbing in the family tree!

Louise

Dear Michelle,
In your first request on this site you were looking for a sara born in 1854 weren't you? So, what you are saying now is that Alexandria is born then? I will look again at my info. Maybe there is an earlier Sara. The Sara I gave you was from Shippegan- that is why I thought it was your Sara. Hopefully we will uncover another. Do you have a person named Lange who married a Barbe Duke in your tree? Lange was a Chiasson too. I am not sure where he was from though. The Duke name was what caught my eye.

Louise

Hello Marilyn,

Did you make it to PEI for the July Concert in Rollo Bay?

I grew up in Rollo Bay and I could just walk through the fields to get to the fiddling festival grounds. As an adult, I owned a house just across the road from the field too..

I have moved since, but still go to the Thursday night ceilidhs held in the big building. They are great fun.

There are many recordings available by Chaissons in the area.
Kenny and Darla have one
Peter, Kenny and Kevin have one.
J.J. has 2
Timothy has 2
Also, a group of cousins collaborated in a band called Celtic TIde but they are defunct. Some went on to become Kindle...they don't play much anymore either.
These recording have alot of fiddle tunes/ celtic traditionals..J.J. has branched into some guitar playing of the tunes and Timothy sings original music on his first recording..second one is traditional.

Lemmy is another artist who plays guitar and sings.
his first recording was of Irish traditional music. CD features all his 4 daughters and on his second one..he goes back to the country music that got him started in the music business...old favorites that most of the locals here really knew and loved.

I would like to know more about your lineage...who were Peter, Aubin and Josephs parents? were they from Tignish?
I would love to know more of you line..because since that is of the West End of the Island...I am of the East end of the island and both lineages are related...just that at one time, there were 2 brothers, jacques and Paul...Jacques went west and Paul came east..the rest as they say is history!

Would love to communicate with you.
email me at:
l.mackinnon@pei.sympatico.ca

I would help you acquire recordings if you would like.

all the best,
Louise

Hi Amber, I am researching the Chiasson/Chaisson family tree for my mother who's grandfather was Theotime Chaisson from Miscou Island. I was wondering if your family ties run back to Francois Chaisson? His family moved to PEI (Havre Sauvage or savage harbour?) to escape the deportation in around 1755. His son Joseph (1733-1815) moved to Miscou Island where my descendants are from. Also, my fiance is from Desable and she's curious to see if we're related. lol
thanks for your help
