It would be best to deal directly, that way I can send you the Binghamton photos. They are from a collection from Byron Rollins. He is on the same tombstone as Frederick and Weltha in Manchester, NH. He had many excellent card photos, unfortunately we cannot identify most of the individuals.

Hi, I am looking for any information I can gather on Alice Chalker, born about 1907 in Goulburn, NSW. Alice married Clarence Betts in 1932 and had three children (all boys). It would be good if I could get the names of Alice's parents as a starting point. Alice is the grandmother of my children and I would like to be able to give them the gift of their ancestry for their children.
Thanks for your help.

Hello, again! Yep, I reviewed the photograph of Harvey's gravestone, and there's no mistaking it, it's 13 May 1943. Regarding the marriage record, I had the same thing happen to me: Everyone told me my great-grandparents got married in Vancouver, Washington. It took me about 15 years to find there marriage record - in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada!

Happy hunting! Beth

Dear Cousin, did you see that someone else interested in our research posted a note? All this time and the record was in Washington! Regarding the death date for Harvey Lee Chalker: it is possible that I misread or mistyped the date, but when I visited the Alford cemetery in 1981, I noted May 18, 1943. If you still think otherwise, I'd be happy to adjust my records. Thanks, Alicia

There is a free genealogy site that I use alot called familysearch.org. They have Washington state county marriage records there (just added in December) and they have the following record:

Harvey L Chalker & Pearl Ingram - marriage date Apr 16 1927 in Washington - both father & mothers names too along with catalog numbers etc.

I don't have a source for their marriage, other than family records, either...sorry!

I found his gravesite today (along w/ his wife) and the gravestone says he died on the 13th...so I'm not sure which is in error, the obit or the gravestone...I can e-mail the photos to you if you'd like. I happen to live in the next town over, so it was just a quick 10 minute trip to explore the cemetery.

My interest is that Harvey is the brother of my great-grandfather, Mark Elroy Chalker.

Oh, by the way, I found Harvey's WWI Draft Registration Card, and it gave Harvey's birthplace as Frost, Clare Co., MI, along w/ his older sister Nettie (Michigan Births, 1867-1902)...I think after that they moved to Shiawassee County.

Hi, Beth.
The marriage date you cite came from family records, but I haven't been able to confirm it with a county marriage source. If you have one, I'd be happy to see the reference.

Harvey Lee Chalker was born 26 April 1879 at Antrim, Shiawassee County, MI; died 18 May 1943 at North Bend, Coos County, OR; and is buried at the Alford Cemetery near Harrisburg in Linn County, OR. Death information comes from an obituary published in the "Coos Bay Harbor". What is your interest?

Alicia Houston

Hello,

What I have is speculation from an English friend. She says the name came from people who lived in the south of England near the chalk deposits (think White Cliffs of Dover!). I got these from Everett's daughter, Ann after Susie(Mom) passed away. Not sure if you are familiar with George's family or not. I do have some info on Isaac's family, not sure that it is complete or not. I could send you a GedCom file if you send me your email address.
I am a descendant of James Travis.

From research I have done, I believe the Isaac & James that you are searching were the sons of James C Travis b 1771 in Edgefield, SC and died 20 June 1861 in Lancashire, England. He was married to Jane Tinsley b 13 Apr 1778 in Lancashire, England and died 20 Sept 1857.

This James C was the son of James Travis b abt 1725 and Phoebe Covert. Phoebe was the daughter of Isaac Covert (1697-1780) and Mary Purdy (1703-?)

I think Samuel Chalker was the son of Daniel Chalker (1740-1815) of Saybrook CT. I found a Sarah Ingraham as Daniel's wife but the dates (b 1692)don't seem to be appropriate.

I gathered much of this info from public family trees listed on Ancestry, com under the names of Raymond Family Tree, Webster Family Tree, Kelly Family Tree

Diane, it is truly a small world. We use to vacation at Santa Rosa Island until it got elbow to elbow. We were there 30 years ago. Samuel Chalker of S.C. may have been from the Connecticut family of Alexander Chalker. No one seems to have any information concerning his life prior to his days on the Pee Dee River in Marlboro Cty. One logical deduction could be that the British burned many of the records. I was born in Georgia. Samuel was my ggggggrandfather. My ancestors come from the line of one of his sons, Hodges.
