Hello,

I am looking for any information about Chambers Slaveholders that may have been in VA and then went into Ky. I am interested in slaveholders who may have had slaves in the Trigg/Christian county area.

I am looking for information on Thomas Chambers b??? m Mary Miles. Don't know when or where they married (believe in Ireland). They had at least 1 daughter Mary Chambers b abt 1876 Ireland. Mary migrated to the US between 1888 and 1898. She married Michael Gannon b abt 1874 Ireland,
July 11, 1900 in Cleveland, Ohio. They had abt 8 children. The marriage license for Michael and Mary stated that they were arried in the presence of Francis Chambers and Catherine Chambers. I don't know if Catherine and Francis were married or siblings. I am assuming that they are siblings. (They could also very well be cousins). I am at a road block. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nicole Fulton Cross

Mary m Michael Gannon b abt 19874 in Ireland, July 11, 1900 in Cleveland. Michael is the son of Patrick and Honora (Duffy) Gannon.
I am related to John S. through George Thomas. My grandfather was Benjamin Franklin called Booker. My father was his eldest child, Cecil.
I have never heard that they came from Ireland, but I figured that they were Scots-Irish.
I haven't found John S nor Martha A in North Carolina. I have a feeling that they may have come over the state line from Anson County to York, but I can't find anything. So many new things are coming on line, that I hope we will find something through the Web. John S always owned land and I hope I can eventually find a will or land document.

What part of WV? I have some Chambers that came from Western PA to central WV (Ritchie Co). Might be the same line. My line married into the Stull family. Thomas Chambers was born in NJ in 1799 and moved to near Ryerson Station PA (Greene Co). His daughter married James W. Stull and moved to Ritchie Co. I am not certain, but others may have also followed. I think some others went into Marshall or Ohio Co also.

CHAMBERS in 19th Cent. MA & RI

I have several obscure references to Chambers possibly related to the Brayton family of Smithfield, RI. In the 1850 census a Jane Chambers was living in Smithfield with Patience Brayton Ross; in 1867 George E. Willard of Uxbridge, MA (a nephew of Patience Brayton Ross) sold to Thomas Chambers of Providence, RI a portion of the "new" Willard burial plot in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Uxbridge; in 1890 Jane A. Willard of Uxbridge, MA (a niece of Patience Brayton Ross) drew up a will in which she included a bequest to her cousin Thomas P. Chambers of Worcester, MA.

Available vital records do not allow identification of the relationship(s) between the Brayton/Willard family and the Chambers.

Anyone have any ideas?

Re: Are you a Chambers relative of mine?

I belong to the Chambers DNA group and I'm a match to relatives of Lafayette Alexander Chambers of Cades Cove, TN. While I can not make a direct link to these Chambers, we share many of the same names. According to relatives, I was told that Chambers from Ga., SC, and Burke County, NC migrated into Ky and Tn in the early 1800's. I'm having difficulty in a direct line into my immediate family. I'm also related to James A. Chambers b1814 SC, who moved to Habersham/White Co. Ga. James is probably my gggf and James Clifton Chambers b1830, GA is my ggf. I believe his family may have been William Chambers who moved from SC into the same general area. Some of these chambers wrote cousins in Cherokee Co. and visited relatives in Monroe County TN in the late 1800's early 1900's. How far can you go back with your chambers??
Chambers3960@charter.net
Randy

Hello young cuz,

Yes I can connect, but won't be of much help, as I can't get past Willis and Lettie either. Willis and Lettie are my great, great grandparents. There is another child of Willis and Lettie you don't have listed.

William Oscar Chambers b: 1852 in Arkansas d: 1 Nov 1929 in Baytown, Harris, Texas married 29 Aug 1892 in Erath county, Texas to Olena Hannon b: 1872 in Erath county, TX and d: 7 May 1943 in Baytown, Harris, Tx.

William also lived in Oklahoma and then Louisiana before moving to Baytown, Texas.

Cyrus Chambers (Delaware, Ohio Orange Twp near Africa)

I recently heard a story about my g.g.grandfather Cyrus Chambers (ca 1795 Vermont - 1890 Ohio) that he owned and lived in one of the first stations on the underground railroad in the Delware Ohio area. The town he lived in became known as Africa, as a slur against
Cyrus Chambers. At one time his barn was burned to the ground to deter his abolitionist activity. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone?
I have info that there is a William Chambers who married Sarah Dunshee on 25 FEB 1772 in Hampstead, Rockingham, New Hampshire. I believe this is the same person. Anyone have any info on this?
I've been trying to find information on my Grandmother Margarette Chambers born 1877 with very little luck. I've finally connected this Benjamin Chambers with her. Rumor always had it that she was American Indian or at least 1/2. My dad died when I was 2 and I never knew my grandmother so any information on the Chambers side of the family would be so very much appreciated. Please contact me if you get this message.

Thanks,
Margie

I have run into a brick wall. My earliest known ancestor John Chambers is listed in all the census pages as being from Ireland. He settled in Jericho Vermont somewhere about 1824, he is listed as taking the Freeman's oath at that time. Any help anyone can give me about my Irish ancestry would be greatly appreciated. I would also like to know where I might look to find some of the Irish records.

Hello...I havn't been on for awhile but I am still searching for my line of Chambers..These were some of the earliest I could find. I found alot of Chambers in the S.C. area but could not link any of them:
1850 Census for Chambers in Edgefield, SC Chambers B. * 4 South Carolina pg0009b.txt14A 36 Chambers F. W. 45 South Carolina pg0009b.txt14A 38 Chambers John R. 6 South Carolina pg0009b.txt14A 40 Chambers M. E. 2 South Carolina pg0009b.txt14A 37 Chambers Martha 21

Hope this helps someone else beside myself...
Descendants of Felix Walker Chambers
1 Produced by Legacy on 27 Feb 2007
First Generation
1. Felix Walker Chambers-[1] was born about 1811 in SC and died from 1860 to 1866 in probably Randolph
County, AL.
General Notes: The first appearance that I've found of Felix and Martha is the 1850 census of Edgefield
County, SC, page 014, house # 204.
F.W. Chambers age 45 wagon maker born SC
Martha 21 born SC
John R. 6 SC
B.Y. (male) 4 SC
M.E. (female) 2 SC
By 1860 the family has moved to Randolph County, AL, page 634, hs. 57.
F. W. Chambers age 49 farm hand born SC
Martha A. 31 house wife SC
John R. 16 farm hand SC
Baily Y 14 SC
Mary E. 11 SC
W.C. 9 SC
Albert T. 7 SC
Martha J. 6 SC
Caroline 4 SC
David 1 SC
This is the same county Henry and Martha Hill moved to from Fayette County, GA. This Hill family
would be forever connected with our Chambers.
The 1866 Randolph County state census does not list Felix or F.W. Chambers. It does list Martha A.
Chambers just 2 houses below Mary Hill. On the 1860 census they were 3 houses below Mary. Felix has
probably died. I have found no military records for him but it is possible he was killed during the Civil
War. The number of children listed is the correct number for Felix and Martha.
Wallace State College in Hanceville has the Randolph Co., AL Tax Assessments for 1865-66. F. W.
Chambers is listed as paying taxes on the NW1/4 of NW1/4 of S34 T20 R11. He could have already died
by this point and Martha paid taxes. All Randolph County Probate Records were destroyed in a fire in
1897 per Randolph Co. website.
Homestead records show Benjamin Hill (possibly our Henry Hill's brother) homesteaded this land Feb. 1,
1860. No Homestead records were found for Felix Chambers.
Martha and the children moved to Lauderdale County and on January 26, 1868 she married Charles C.
Pierson (Pearson).
The 1870 census of Lauderdale Co., AL, page 569, hs 524 lists;
Charles Pierson age 32 farmer born AL
Martha 42 keeping house born SC
Charles Bayle 23 works in cotton mills born AL
Wm Pierson 19 " " " " born SC
Albert 16 " SC
Martha 15 " SC
Caroline 14 " SC
Davis 12 " SC
Newton 9 SC
John 6 SC
The children are listed as Pierson but they are indeed our Chambers kids.
Newton and John were also born in AL, not SC.
On page 545 a Bayles Chambers, age 24 is listed as a farm hand living with Jessee Carroll. I'm not sure if
this is our Baily Chambers or if the Charles Bayle listed with Charles and Martha is ours. I haven't been
able to locate John R. after 1866.
By 1880 Martha and family have moved to Winston County, AL. Page 552 of the census shows;
Martha Chambers

Have a Blessed Day,
Jon Chambers

Dear Nicky,
I've been researching CHAMBERS ancestors and am intrigued by your posting of 2003! Assuming you are still interested in the surname, I thought I'd just touch base. My Chambers ancestors go:
1. John C., possibly b. 1710, no idea where
m. Ann Loomer or Lomer North Hayling 1745
2. William C. b 1746, m 1778 Ann Ireland, d 1791 Hayling Is.
Ann's brother Samuel (1755-1806) is a mariner, his will 1806 leaves his boat to his nephew
3. John C., mariner, b1788 Hayling Is., m 1811 Portsea Ann Heath, d. 1825? Admon 1825. John has brothers William (1779) and Michael (1789)
4. John C., tailor, b 1814 Hayling, m 1838 Portsea, d 1902
I mention these because the Portsmouth area and the Isle of Wight is fairly abundant in Chambers! and it may help you disentangle this from the various other threads.
Best wishes
Nick Hofman,
Southsea, Portsmouth UK
