I am trying to find information on Walter Chambless. Walter married Daisy (or Daisie) Sims. Daisy died in 1930 and is buried in the Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery in Covington, AL. Walter later remarried. My grandma said Walter's father was John Chambless.

Anyone have information on this line? I'm stuck.

Can anyone help? I seem to have hit a brick wall. My grandfather was William Joseph Chambless b.1883 in MO. Marriage databases list his mother (Sarah Fodge) as married to an A.T. Chambless. I can find William and his mother in the 1910 Census but it lists Sarah as widowed and where the info for "father" should be it simply states "Can't Find". I cannot seem to tie Wm Jos to any of the Chamblesses I can find. I'm sure the info is there somewhere - I'm just not looking in the right spots.Thanks in advance for any info. Eva

I wondered if anyone was researching this Christopher Chambless who had a Land Grant in Original Washington Co. (probably in Greene now) around 1794. He was already there when the ancestor I'm searching applied for his.

I also noticed that some Chambless families went to Dale Co AL..and I know some Averett families lived there as well. Wonder if there might be an intermarriage?

We are trying to locate the parents of Elizabeth Chambless b 27 Sep 1799 in TN. Married William Herron. Had at least one child - Malinda Elizabeth Herron 29 Apr 1822.
After William died in TN, married ? McKnight. Migrated to Rusk Co, TX near Henderson with other McKnights and lived on the McKnight Estate. Near the end of her life, moved to Reilly Springs, Hopkins Co, TX to live with daughter and died 30 Jan 1877 and is buried at Methodist Church Cemetery, Reilly Springs, TX next to son-in-law William Smith Scarborough.
We are also trying to locate anything about William Herron, Elizabeth Chambless Herron McKnight and ? McKnight. ? McKnight may be buried in Rusk Co,TX.

I am lost too. my GGfather Elkanah Chambless was in Dail Co, Al on the same census as John Chambless and William Chambless. I have not been able to find out who Elkanah's father was. also Elkanah bought land from John in Stephens Co Texas, I think, it might have been Eastland Co. Stephen had a sister Nancy, who married a Roark from NC. They moved to Tennessee (or married there) and then to Texas. I descend from a Leonard Sims and Mary Harvey....their daughter, Martha, married Zachariah's son, Alexander...they had at least two daughters before he died c1828…

I, also, descend from a Seaborn Durham and his 1st wife, Nancy Stovall. Seaborn married 2nd, Mary "Polly" (Chambliss) George, widow of Joseph Warren George. (They are the parents of CSA General James Zachariah George of Mississippi.)

Zachariah's will from the Will Book lists among 10 children and several granddaughters, "my daughter Sally, now Durham".....I believe that when the original will was copied into the will book the clerk misread the "Po" in Polly and incorrectly recorded "Sally"

Zachariah's son Edmund Chambliss acted as Administrator for the estates of both his brother, Alexander, and Mary's 1st husband, Joseph George.

I, also, descend from Seaborn's brother, Shelman Durham....Shelman moved from Monroe GA to Attala MS, then to Bremond, Robertson Co. TX, and in a 1877 letter to one of his sons (still in Attala) he is writing about the grasshoppers and the cotton crop and says...

………..& old brother Chambliƒs says he will
not get over two [bags] off of 30 acres. It is new land
Prarie, Planted late in May & badly cultivated
He is your aunt Polly Durham cousin and
a Decon of Bremond church.............a good family
all of them~~

So, of course, I now want to identify "old brother Chambliss" ............does anyone know of a family member who moved to Robertson Co. TX prior to 1877?

Benjamin Hill Chambless seems to only exsist in a cematary and on birth records. I did find a record from Geneva county Ala of his death but they have the year recorded as 1922 not 1923 ( family records say 1923 so does his tombstone). They lived just northof Samson Ala on the line of Geneva and Coffee counties sometime after most of the kids were born at least the kids moved to the panhandle of fl where there are still tons of us. Seeking any/all info on a "Z. Chambless", somewhere in the US or England. Z is credited with the 1844 music for one version of "How Firm a Foundation" so I assume (s)he was living in 1844.

From usage of initial only, I feel it is most likely a female, but perhaps the initial was used for space-limitation reasons.

I am searching for information on my Paternal side. Especially my paternal grandmother.

My Grandmother's name was Gladys Jewel McMurray. She was born in Mt View OK. Her father's name was William StClair McMurray and her mother's name Lillie Mae Chambless. My grandmother had said that her father had been a minister, I don't know what denomination. My grandmother had an elder sister named Anna Bell(e) and twin brothers named Harley and Charley. I think there were other siblings, but can't remember their names. I think my grandmother was the youngest.

My grand mother and Robert Paul Stuart had six issue: Catherine (Katie) m Carl Bellamy, Robert Steven Stuart m Lois Anita Raymer, Richard, William m Ruth ( ) Aldridge, Bonnie m Gerald Bellamy and Betty m James (Jim) Roberson. Bonnie and Betty are fraternal twins.

My husbands great-grandmother was a Chambless, some records show her as Susan Elizabeth Chambless, and others have her name as Susan A. unfortunately I do not know which is correct. She was born about March 1866 Possibly in Alabama.

She married William Thomas Sampley, born about 1852, I believe in Tennessee.

They had 6 children: Charles Elkan, Walter Franklin, Othor, James Birdie, Dera, and Dovie

The only census that I have found them on is Oklahoma, Washita Co. in 1900

I'm looking for information on my grandfather, William Joseph Chambless believe he was born in East Prairie, MO, December 1883 or 1885; know for sure that he died there (April 1957 in a local hotel) and most likely was buried in Dogwood cemetery. He was married to Lou (also known as Lu and LuluBelle) Snyder in Jan. 1908 on the Durbin farm. Believe she died in/around 1930 and also buried in Dogwood. My grandfather, Whitt W. Chambless is buried in the Oran Cementary, Oran, Tx, Palo Pinto Co.,Tx. He was buried there Feb. 15, 1931. My father, Claude Leach Chambless is buried in Woodland Park cementary, Mineral Wells, Tx, Palo Pinto Co. Tx. He was buried there April 1, 1980.
