Hi searching for information on a lester chamlee or chamblee married to a bell english in Georgia. I found them listed in the 1930 census with the last name chamlee, BUT my mother in law has always said her last name and all the leftover relatives are now chamblee, they mainly lived around clayton georgia area?
Anyway the family says he was full blooded indian?? Not sure the census says white.

But cannot find him anywhere else for a death or a birth or a marriage etc.

Hi Joseph, I haven't gotten any new information since my last post. If your relations came from Georgia we are prob not related at least for a while back. My came via TN. There is a Chamlee web site and association with researchers. If you are interested I can send you the information. My line is a "dead end line" there are other lines. Chamlee is a very unusual name but there are several spellings. Email if you get a chance. My email is cbreezemom@comcast.net

Re: Chamblee of GA

I don't know if you can give me any information on the ones I am looking for or not. My husband's grandfather John Tyler or Tylar Chamblee is in the Issac ,Zadock,James,Elias,Rudolphus L, line. I have hit a dead end with the John Tyler Chamblee line. They were in Alabama in 1910 in Hartselle Al. and in the 1920 Cencus and after that they sort of disappered. I have been unable to find a marriage record for them or birth records on them or cemetary"s where they were burried. I can't find out who the mother was before she married. I do know that John T. was born in Morgan Hill Ga. in 1880 to Rudolphus L Chamblee and then they all moved to Ga. by1900's. That John T. got married sometimes between 1900 where he was listed as living at home with his folks in Oakville,Lawrence Co. Al. So between 1900 and 1910 he had married and lived in Hartsville ,Morgan,Al. He was married to a lady named Pendolie or Pendole and had two daughters, Jane N. and Savorah E. Savorah E was my husbands mother. She married a Willie T. Meeks in Tx. and died in 1930. My husband didn't know his grandparents very well as he was 8 yrs. old when his mother died. He remembers she had 2 sisters and 2 brothers. They were Dolphus,Sylvester,Nell, and Julia Belle. I have been unable to trace any of them. He said he remembers Julia Belle and Dolphus comming to stay with them for a few months at the time that his mother died and that his Grandmother came one time about 1927. He thinks his Grandfather and
Grandmother died as well as Nell and Sylvester before 1930. He thinks that the only ones still alive were Julia Belle and Dolphus at that time. I do know that Julia B.and Dolphus were living with a family named ,O.C.Smith in Lawerance Co. Al. in 1930 as Boarders and Farm Labor. Julia Belle was then 15 and Dolphus was 19 yrs. old. If you know anything about this family or where they might be burried please let me know. You can e-mail me at junemeeks62@yahoo.com Thanks a lot.

Alabama, Nancy, Elisha (Elizabeth), Zadock , Hardy, my gggggrandfather Lewis (Louis) b. 1781 Paris France d. 1803 Charlston S.C who married Polly (Mary) Burris b.1785, john, and Rachel.
This is just the start if any of this info helps you than I will be glad to send it to you.

Chamlee - Sweetwater, TN

The only Chamlee I found on Ancestry.com that was listed as "from Sweetwater, TN" was Thomas Y. Chamlee born 1853 married to Martha Hawkins. His parents were Adniron Jodson and Emeline CHAMLEE. Found them with 3 other children: David Samson b. 12-29-1857 in Knoxville, Samuel Rickett b.3-8-1852 and Fanny b. 1854. David is listed with 8 children as is Samuel. If I can be of any help, let me know at AMCHAMLEE@aol.com.

I am searching for my great grandfather Jacob Louis Chamlee He was in Logan Co. Arkansas in 1905 with his wife Arinta (Minnie) Lemon Chamlee and their children Henry Melton Chamlee, Bertha May Chamlee and Fanny Chamlee.
His wife passed away in Seymour Texas in about 1915. He placed the three by then girls up for adoption and headed west. In 1918 Jacob wrote his sister in law Delia Needham that he was in El Paso Texas and that he did not think he would live. There is no record of either his death or his wifes in Texas.
I don't have much information on him but am desperately searching. Any lead will be appreciated.

D'Ann
Yes I have looked in the death records available in Texas and New Mexico and no such luck. I don't know if Arizonia and California are my next places to look or if I should try Old Mexico.
According to the 1910 Logan County Census he was born in Louisiana. My Grandmother's birth certificate said her father was born in Ak. On the Census his Mother was born in Alabama and His father in Georgia. On the Census record he was born 1867 but grandmothers birth certificate sys he was born 1865. I do know that he had relatives all over as the family stayed with some during their travels. I sent Sylvia Oxenrieder a copy pf a photo I have that is of Jake and some other men at a syrup mill, she said her father had one just like it and the young boy in the fore ground looked like her Uncle. My Jacob Louis Chamlee married Arminta (Minnie) Lemon in Indian Territory in 1896. It was her first marriage and his second according to the census of Logan co. 1910.I do not have this confirmed as of yet.
Ues please let me know when your new site is up so I am add it to my favorites.
Paula

Hi,

I started to post something and my message sort of got goofed up. I saw your gedcom on Rootsweb about the Chamlees, I'm not a descendant but I wanted to mention something to you, if you're interested you can e-mail me at sparrish@ffni.com and I'll explain further, and if you're not interested that's perfectly okay, just ignore this message.

In your Chamlee gedcom is a Samuel Chamlee married to a Clarissa Elizabeth Houselibe. I believe the parents of Clarissa Elizabeth Houselibe were John W. Houselibe and Parmelia Slagle. John W Houselibe and wife appear on the Madison County, MO census for 1880, below them are Samuel Chamlee and wife Carrie age 15 (Carrie is what it says there anyway), it lists Samuel Chamlee as a medical student.

Parmelia Slagle, mentioned above, was the sister of my late brother-in-law's great-grandfather, that's how I came to be looking for information regarding the Houselibe name.

As I said, this may be of no interest to you but didn't think it would hurt to let you know anyway. Thanks for listening.

Sharon Parrish in Indiana
Birth certificates are considered stronger sources than death certificates because people are in grief when reporting and again, who knows where the info came from. On a birth certificate the motives were to be more accurate and to ask people who knew, they are considered primary sources.

Does this help with giving weigh to which sources?

I can check the California death certificates for you, the fiche for many years are in a drawer at our FHC......but you MUST keep reminding me, please!
Jacob Chamlee b. 1752- bible found on film

Hi,
I found pictures of a very old small bible, printed in Edinburgh, which has on a page:"Jacob Chamlee born January 2_th Day in the year of our Lord 1752". Below that is ___Chamlee born ____ October 21 1772. Below that is a name that looks like William Chamlee Sprill? 5 1772 (or 1792) and ___ Chamlee December 1796. Below that died? year of __ Lord 17?? and William Chamlee and Jacob Chamlee. This is very hard to read but Jacob Chamlee and 1752 is pretty clear.

Also on the film is a page about the Moore/Light/Chamlee/Bell family. This is a collection of loose genealogical papers about 41 different families.

Pattie
