An update: Marcus Mitchell Chamney was born in Portsmouth in 1848, son of William Chamney & Mary Ann Bayman. William was born at Hampton Court Palace in 1807 or 1808. William's father was Thomas Chamney, born ab. 1779 in Bardsea, Lancashire; Thomas married Hannah Wholstenholme or Wolstenholme. William's father was Edward Chamney, and the only records I find of him are of his children's births in Bardsea, between ab. 1779 and 1788.
