Thanks for the quick reply and all the information! I also posted a query to R.J. Ballantyne and I got an answer from him today too. The information he has doesn't really match the information I have for the Johns around the Sgt. Major. However, my original source is pretty sketchy.

My information matches yours up through Nimrod and Rachel. What I've been able to gather from ancestry.com and rootsweb.com is that Nimrod's parents were John Champ (born 1792) and Sarah Elizabeth Borror (born 1793). It looks like they had about 8 children:

I have 8 children for Nimrod Champ and Rachel Skidmore. Let me know if they match anything you have.

Chester Champ (born 14 April 1909, died August 1967 of lung cancer, married Thelma (last name not known), had 2 girls Crystal and Sherry)
Raymond Champ (called Bud, died in the mid-1990s of emphysema, married Hazel (last name unknown) no children that I know of)
Dale Champ (my dad, was born 8 March 1919 and died November 1983 of a heart attack; married Olive Amanda Pittman, born 3 May 1921, died November 1985 of a heart attack)

I'm not sure of the other three children.

Melissa Gale Champ (born 15 December 1957, married Ron Imler in 1984, no children)
Joseph Champ (born 13 December 1960, married and divorced Andrea (last name unknown), 1 child--James Arthur, born 23 August 1980 or 1981 (the same year Jerry and Cathy were married)
Rachel Champ (born 18 February 1963, married Greg White in 1982 I think, no children)
