Barbara,
Please send me your contact information.
I am wondering if I could get some help looking up info about my great grandfather.
Logan Mills Champ
born Feb 25, 1886 in Hornersville, Dunklin, Missouri, USA passed Sept 18, 1936
At the advice from a doctor, the family left their Home in 1934: Big Lake, Mississippi, Arkansas and moved to Hanford or Corcoran, Ca to a sanitarium for treatment for consumption (tb). He fought the disease for 2 years before he died.
He was buried old in Old Hanford Cemetery LOT 719, GRAVE 7 by the Peoples Funeral Chapel then moved from grave #3 to grave #7
I called the Hanford Cemetery and they showed a Holeman M Champ
born Feb 25, 1886 passed Sept 18, 1936 buried old in Old Hanford Cemetery
with a Woodsman of the World tree stump monument lot 719, grave 7
We have pictures now that shows that Logan had a tree stump grave marker with his picture on it , so we assume Holeman & Logan are the same person.
I can't find who his parents or siblings were. He is said to be an orphan with one brother who died at a young age and Logan had a Half sister is Gimlu from Manila Arkansas, who was married to Leonard Parker. Sister-in-law was Lula "Lulu" Mae Howard who married Robert Brown who had 3 children that died before 1922 (not still born) Someone said Logan was an orphan but might have had a brother – no name- and a half sister Gimlu. If his father was a Champ he had to be alive up to the time of conception which was the end of June 1885, because Logan was born 25 Feb 1886. In 1885, he would have been bet 18-50 years old. So I need to find a Champ who was born bet 1835-1867 and died after June 1885. Since Logan was born in Hornersville, Dunklin, Missouri, USA and was in the same location in the 1900 census, I think his father would have died there. The same goes for his mother accept she was alive up to his birth, maybe she died in childbirth.
There is no soc sec death index listing for him,. I found a different Logan Champ in soc sec death index, who died in 1965 in Stanislaus County, but it's the wrong person.
Logan and Fannie Howard were married the 9th of Dec, 1910 in Mississippi County, Arkansas.
In Ar & Mo, Logan was a logger and a member of the Woodsmen of the World. Fannie received his pension after he died.
I asked the people in the Historical & Genealogy Room at the Fresno Library see where they are mentioned in the "They Shall Not Be Forgotten - Pioneers of Kings County, California," Bob Athey, self-published 3 volume set,? They replied with:

I don't know why it shows his name being Holeman!

In the 1900 Census, there is a Grover Champ age 11 born circa 1888 in Missouri. living in Madison, Indiana.
In the 1910 census there is a Grover Champ, age 22 living in in Neal Township (5 mi. n/w of Manilla), Mississippi Co, Ar with his wife Mahala age 18 and daughter Beulah age 1-1/2.
By the 1920 census, Grover, age 32, and family have moved to Dunklin County, Missouri.
Its a long-shot theory, but Could Grover Champ have been a younger brother living in the same county Logan married? For some reason, he is born in Ill and travels down to AR. Then Grover leaves AR and returns to Dunklin, MO. Could Grover and Logan both been brothers from Dunklin?

CHAMP, GROVER C - Born: 1893

http://www.footnote.com/document/198702151/?xid=179 In the 1880 census of Dunklin County, Missouri lists a M. Logan Champ, age 19, born Illinois.
The father is listed as R. (H. or K or W.) Champ, born Illinois.
There is also an Ashley (male) Champ, age 47 living near the family.
Going to the 1860 census of Illinois I find Ashel Champ in Jefferson County living near a Robert Champ, both age 27, living in Mount Vernon, Il. Ashel married Mary Phillips Sep 28, 1879 in Dunklin, Mo.
Is the M. Logan Champ the father?
The 1880 census shows M. Frances Champ as a sister to M. Logan.
Why the M. preceding the first name? Should it have been Logan M. Champ and Frances M. Champ? (Remeber Holeman M. Champ & Logan M Champ).
Did they all have M as a middle name?
I checked Dunklin County marriages and there are a few Champ marriages from 1873-1881.
Charles Edward Whitney & Monty Champ were married on Nov. 9, 1892 in Dunklin County, Missouri.
the marriage certificate, which is very hard to read, but, it has Charles Edward Whitney listed as C.E. Whitney and Monty as (what looks like) R.L. M. Champ. But, the family knew her name to be Monty. They were married by a Justice of the Peace. They weren't married very many years. She died a young woman. I don't have any other info about her except that she was his first wife. He married 2 more times after her.
Logan & Fannie worked on Caldwell Farm.
