Tom Chancellor OK and TX 1880-1900

I'm looking for any information on Tom Chancellor. The story is that he was working as a hired hand for Ellis McVey and his wife, Martha Rumsey McVey in December, 1880, and I think it was in the area around Eufala, OK. The town Mellett is mentioned, which doesn't exist anymore, but I think that's where it is. Ellis McVey and Tom Chancellor were both attacked by two brothers, Indians, in McVey's home and McVey was killed. Chancellor had his hand cut off. The Indians were apprehended, confessed, and were executed in Fort Smith, AR. I'm told that later on, Chancellor and Martha got married and at some point moved to Lockhart, TX. I'd like to be able to confirm that they went to Lockhart, and what happened to them afterwards. Any help appreciated.
Peggy

If you are a descendant of the Virginia Chancellor family line I would appreciate a contact. We are attempting to bring this family line up to date and to document the family with photographs. This means contacting as many descendants as possible. It is a monumental task and your help is needed both in locating living family members and locating family photographs.

Available to participating family members is freely available access to the two private family web sites; one for the family history and one for the photogrphic archive. At present, the family photo archive contains almost 1500 family photographs representing nearly every branch of our family.

If you want to particiapate in this family project please contact me at raychancellor@aol.com.

Priscilla Chancellor

I see persistent reports that a Priscilla Chancellor married a William Leake. No evidence; only reports.

William Leake obtained a grant of land in Albemarle County, Va in 1791. Of those 117 acres he conveyed 15 in 1803, and dower was released by his wife Priscilla. He died probably in January 1811 (letters of administration granted 4 Feb 1811). She apparently survived him by 5 years. The heirs conveyed a full 102 acres in Nov 1816, indicating the extinguishment of any dower, and she did not join in the deed.

The source for stating that she was a Chancellor is not known. Any Chancellor researcher know of a Priscilla in Virginia in the late 1700s who could have married William Leake?

Considering all the discussion here about Chancellor and Gilbert, it might be noted that William Leake's daughter Lucy (b 1780-90) married Nathaniel Gilbert (b 1770-75) 2 Sep 1799 in Albemarle Co. In 1810 and 1820, they lived in Augusta Co., Va.

Children of James Earl Chancellor- a daughter?

James Earl Chancellor was originally from Amity, Arkansas but lived most of his life in the Houston, Beaumont, Vidor, Texas area. There may have been more than one James Earl Chancellor in the area at the same time. Here is the problem. We are still trying to locate possible children of a James Earl Chancellor. We have located the 9 brothers/half-brothers. There have been numerous old family references to a daughter, possibly in Lousiana. To date I have found several daughters of James Earl Chancellor --all in Texas-- just do not know if if it is the correct James Earl Chancellor! If you know of a possible person who would be the daughter of a James Earl Chancellor born in the Houston area or Louisiana between 1940 and 1959, please contact me. There are 9 brothers who would love to have a sister if she exists!

John Cooper Chancellor/Catherine Sinnett Update Project

I am looking for descendants of John Cooper Chancellor and Catherine Sinnett wishing to participate in a family project to bring the descendant history up to the present date including the development of a family photographic/document archive. Descendants participating in the project may have access to the private family history files and the private photographic archive which presently contains over 600 descendant photographs primarily of his son's ,William Chancellor, line. The goal is to expand this archive to include as many of John Cooper Chancellor's descendants as we can locate. John is my great great grandfather.

This project is for identified descendants of John Cooper Chancellor and not for general queries. It's purpose in not for publishing of any kind but simply to make our history easily assessible to family members.
Oklahoma Chancellors

I know a little bit about some of my ancestors here in Oklahoma.
My great-grandpa Chancellor was Alonzo Martin Chancellor (?) and
he was married to Hettie Walker. They had 14 children. My Grandma
Chancellor has a book that someone did at some point on the
Chancellor family.. and there IS an Indian connection in it.
I can't remember the names, but it SEEMS like one of the other family
traced in the same book started with a P.. possibly Pollard, but not
certain on that.

I have noticed, reading through here, that there
are a few characteristics that must have been
in the Chancellor family forever... namely, a
great sense of humor. :-) I think at times my
family has a contest to see who can be the
corniest. :-)

Oh, also... some of the Oklahoma Chancellors are
redheads. I think this may have come from our
the Walker line coming in to the Chancellor
family though. :-)

I heard that my great-grandad Chancellor looked
somewhat Indian. I never knew him as he passed
away when my dad was a little boy.

Looking for information on the parents of Jacob Chancellor

The information I have on Jacob is as follows:

Born April 2, 1822 in Kentucky - place of birth and parents unknown
Died March 17, 1887 in Benton Co., Missouri
Buried at Bethel Campground, Benton Co. Missouri

Apparently served in Company I of the 45th Missouri Infantry during the Civil War - his wife/widow Sarah Chancellor applied for his Civil War pension 3 years (May 5, 1890) after his death. He never advanced further than a private over the course of the war.

He was listed as having lived in Black Oak Point, Hickory County, Missouri in the 1860 Missouri Census. At some point after this he moved to Knobby, Benton Co., Missouri.

If anyone has information regarding the parents of Jacob Chancellor - or any connection to Kentucky Chancellors I would greatly appreciate the information.

(Just an interesting side note: his wife - Sarah Elizabeth Chancellor's maiden name was also Chancellor).

Misti

I am compiling as complete a family tree as possible of the descendants of William Chancellor (b. circa 1830 possibly in VA or MO) and Mary Jane Harvey (b.
Miles, Levi or Lonzo Chancellor

Looking for information regarding these individuals. I have them as living various places in Kentucky in March of 1893. Miles owned a store which he traded in 1893 for a farm. Levi is apparently the uncle of Miles and Lonzo. Miles and Lonzo are cousins of my great-great-grandfather James Thomas Chancellor (son of Jacob Chancellor and Sarah Elizabeth Chancellor). Towns in Kentucky mentioned in a letter to James by Miles and Lonzo are as follows:

Askin,
Hopewell,
and Jones Station

Counties - Breckinridge and Ohio Counties are mentioned.

Jacob was born in Kentucky, and one of the places in the information I have either gives an occupation or town, I'm not sure which. It simply says, (Wheelwright).

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Please email me at okieguardianangel@juno.com with information.

Thanks,
Misti
