I am looking for info on Ann Ray Chancy of Tx. married to Francis Joseph Greeley Jr. They apparently lived in Del Rio, Tx. in 1948 (?) He was in the Air Force and eventually stationed in Roswell, NM approx. 1950. They had 3 known daughters, Teresa Elaine Greeley b.1/31/1948 & Eleanor Susan Greeley b.2/11/1949 and Jo Ellen Greeley b.7/3/1950 Given up for adoption in Roswell, NM and a son born after 1951 name: unknown at this time.

I realize it's been more than 10 years since you posted your message but I just started my search recently. I believe your Jackson B Chancy may be my maternal greatgrandfather. I am hampered by the fact that my grandfather John M. ran away from home and my mother never new her grandparents names. My grandfather admitted changing the spelling of the name to Chauncey. The information I found on the 1910 cencus fits but I can't be sure.

I am a grandon of Mamie Aspinwall Chancey of Offerman and Screven, GA. She married Andrew Jackson Chancey of Offerman also. I'm not sure when they married; but A. J. Chancey died in 1961. My son did the dna testing and we matched with a Chancey who takes us back to when Chancey left France with William the Conquerer. who-hoo! Still cant figure out who Francis' father was, but his grandfather was Roswell Chancy. Any help in Southern IL? Id appreciate it.

I'm searching for the PARENTS of Alvin Orlando Chancey/Chancy b:7/7/1876 in AL, D: 5/1/1947 in Westville, FL. His grandfather, Matthew Chancey, was awarded guardianship of him at 16 years of age by the AL Probate Court in Coffee County on 11 Jan 1896. His grandmother was Martha nee Wade. Alvin Orlando, aka Lander, went on to marry Minnie Ola (Mineola) McKenzie in Jun of 1898 and had seven children: Alvin Lee, Sherman Wesley, William Obie, Emma Jean, George Harris, Mildred Alcey, and Roberta.

Matthew Chancey b: abt 1830 Houston Cty, GA, married abt 1854 Martha Wade b: 1835. They had 5 children: Harriet b: 1855; William M. b: 1858, Susan L. b: 1860, Dona b: 1868, Ellen D. b: 1868.

I have not been able to locate Lander on any census records before 1900. Family members that remember him say he would never talk about his parents.

I have gathered some info on chancy ancestors
from my husband's line.Christopher settled in
Appling Co. Ga, at or near a present town of
Waycross with a differant county name(Ware).
I believe he was the son of Samuel form S. Carolina, but I have not been able to prove this at this time.

I also have seen the 1880 census record that you mention. Since Viletta Chancy was living in Wirt Co, WV, in 1880, I'm almost certain she's connected to the Roane Co and Jackson Co. Chancey's. But I don't have a record for a Viletta or Violetta Chancy/Chancey born ca. 1855. It's quite possible that she was married to a Chancy, who subsequently died ca. 1877. I'll check some other sources and let you know.

Thank you so much for the quick reply! I know Viletta was living in Wirt County West Virginia in 1880, and she was 25 at the time. This is according to the 1880 census, I have a copy of it and she also had a son named George who was 5 in 1880, his last name was Chancy but was changed to Monroe. In the 1880 census it shows Viletta living with James Monroe and it said she was a servent. There is a story behind all of that, and I am trying to figure it all out. Thanks for the help.

Hello I read you reply to the last message, and I have a question to ask of you. My GGGgrandmother was Viletta Chancy and I have hit a brick wall with her and her family. The only records I can find of her is the 1880 census. I have been trying so hard to find anything on her. So I was wondering if you had her name in you family. Thank you very much.

I am trying to find the parents of John A.Chancy. He was born in Coffee County Alabama abt. 1850. He married (1) Martha Shiver and (2) Lula Daniels. He and Martha had abt. 5 children with the oldes being John M. (b. abt 1869). I have lots of information from John M. to the present. But nothing before John A. Who were his parents? Did he have siblings?
