Ruth Elizabeth Ann Carter and James Henry Channell Jr. (married in 1848) had 12 children:

1. Jane Channell (married B. Crumpler and had Matthew, Donald, Shepherd, Patrick, Frederick, Genevieve).
2. Jack Channell (married Zura McDonald and had James).
3. Sally Channell (married John Carter and had Dora).
4. Henry Channell
5. Daniel Channell
6. Matthew Channell
7. Martha Channell
8. Molly Channell (married a Steven Gilmer, 1 child).
9. William Channell (married Molly Lively and had Aileen who married Gene Smith, Winifred who married Paul Pest, William who married Juanita Satterfield and twins who died in infancy.
10. Elda Channell
11. Ola Channell (who married Claude's brother Charles Tully and had Dorothy T. Johnson and Louise T. Campbell.).
12. Lou Ella Channell (1875-1955) married Claude A. Tully in 1896.

According the family lore Ruth E. A. Carter is related to Robert E. Lee's wife, Mary Custis Lee.
