Hi, I'm researching my Chapline's line. I'm looking for a Solomon Chapline, he married Mary Ann Helton. I've startred with Isaac Chapline and went down with still no luck. Cousins think his father was either Abraham or Archabauld, because of the SAC on his head stone. Solomon came up to Illinois with her father, Henry and his 2 brothers. They settled in Shelby co Il., they came up from Md. My cousin has the "Chapline's on the move in Md" by Dare.

Check out my web site. www.sharon721.tribalpages.com
I loved your site, I wonder if we are related.
If you have any information in my quest, please email sharon_725@yahoo.com Thanks for anything you have
Sharon

Thanks so much for your response to my query. I was wondering if I could ask you a few questions?

I was wondering what source is quoted for the marriage of this Easter to Culp?

I was also wondering if you could look in that book and see if there is another Esther, born abt that time, whose husband hasn't been identified.

One last thing, could you check to see if the Chaplines married into the Hyatt/Hiatt/Hiett family of MD or VA?

I find in the Ohio Co court records that Solomon Hedges and Moses Chapline paid the surety for the estate of Hezekiah Hyatt who died 1787 and was married to an Esther. I wonder about the relationship of these families which is why I am asking.

I so appreciate your help! Many Thanks and God Bless, Janet

Jacob Rogers Chapline's wife Elizabeth Moore

Hi,
Anyone have verified date of death for Elizabeth ("Bettie") Moore (b. 1799?), wife of Jacob Rogers Chapline? Or know if Jacob possibly had a wife after Elizabeth Moore? I've found several Chaplines in Newberry, S.C. that were born after 1821 which I've seen as E.M.C.'s year of death. They appear to be George Moore Chapline's brothers & a sister Eleanor. John S. Chapline (b. 1823) died in War between the States on 16 Nov.1862. Jacob H. Chapline (b.29 Dec. 1829, died 20 Sep. 1848). I plan to research this further in Newberry.

I have a question about a spouse of a Chapline. Jesse Roach married Mary Ann Chapline on 13 Dec 1821 in Rockingham Co., VA. Mary Ann is the younger sister of the Elizabeth Chapline who married Jesse Sisson. They two families traveled to Brooke Co., VA (now Hancock Co., WV) around Oct. 1826. It appears that the Jesse's could have been first cousins since Jesse Sisson's mother was a Sarah Roach. My question is about Jesse Roach. He has been my brick wall for 15 years. Has anyone on this board heard of him? Thanks for any help.
Polly

Chapline in Warren County, Witness to Marriage Record, Need Help

Hello, I am not researching Chapline's but I have a 1799 marriage record for William Ray Stringfield and Abigail Giles who married in Warren County, Kentucky. The witness listed is a Chapline or Chapland. I can not make out his first name as the document is in that terrible 1700's writing. It looks like the first name could start with an "L".

If anyone had any Chapline's relatives in the Warren County, Kentucky area at the time of 1799 I would like to know if you know who this could be.

Thanks in advance,
In Christ,
Melissa Barker

In response to your questions - the book only has one Esther in the index with the following statements:

pg 5 - Esther Chapline is mentioned in the will dated 8/30/1762, proved 11/17/1762, of her father Moses Chapline

pg 19 summarizes the family, stating that she married Daniel Culp - no source.

pg 34 states that they moved to Kentucky about 1790.
-----------------
There is no Hyatt/Hiatt/Hiett in the index.
----------------
I did not find a Solomon or Hezekiah Hedge in the book, although there are a number of references to the Hedge family on pg 17. If you want a copy of the page email me direct.

"Mary (Chapline - daughter of William Chapline and Elizabeth Black-not sure of the last name) to Mr Hedges of Hedgesville. From them descended Rev Chapline Hedges, mention on pg 310 in "Mead's Old Churches." He was a man of most exemplary life and lovely character. The family of Hedges did not respond to my request. I append a few notes: "Absalom Hedges patented 'Standing Stone,' 70 acres in Fred Co MD in 1771," Scharf, p 378,

"Samueal Hedges m Mollie Tabb, own cousin to Gen Winfield Scott. Their children were 1, William, 2 Jonas, 3 Enoch; 4 Seton E

"Moses Hedges married Mary Woods," 8/7/1746 (the Woods family is mine but I don't have this in my data base)

"Joseph Hedges killed by Indians." Ohio Hist. Col., p 202

"In 1682 Samuel Hedges, Member of Assembly - Stroud's Penna., p 154

"Mansfield, Ohio, laid out in 1808 by James Hedges and two others," p 430 of Howe's Historical Collections.

"Hedges' Stockade on the road from Matinsburg to Bath in 1757." De Haas Va 6 204

"Elijah Hedges wounded by Indians," p 315 De Hass"
------------
I have a Solomon Hedges in my data base who married Rebecca Van Meter 1735 in Maryland. Below is the link to the Van Meter web page. If you link to this family let me know because I am tied to it also.

http://www.vnla.com/vnl/gen/mcq/VanMeter.htm
-------------------
Let me hear if this helps.
