So many CHAPMAN, so much to read. Interesting grandfather, shows up about 1879 through '82 as a young teen at Western Reserve Academy, Hudson OH, boarding on the 1880 census, with a SPRING and WARRINER family. All he ever said was that his father's name was John. Allan BURTON CHAPMAN was nowhere to be found on 1870 Summit OH census as a boy in someone's household.

Next he shows up about 1887 with a VA-born wife, Rosa SKINNER, in Fredericksburg VA. The couple returns to OH and he's in the (near Hudson) 1887+ Canton, Stark Co OH city directory as Allen "Bert" BERTRAM CHAPMAN, it is definitely him, but the different spellings All-En, and BERTRAM continue for a number of years in the directories. His occupation is Electrical Engineer -- in **1888*** mind you. His career included a number of children by several wives, a couple of which overlapped a bit, marrying in a different state each time. I keep thinking that BURTON or BERTRAM may be a mother's family name, with any luck.

Which of you CHAPMAN folk has dead people with the $$ to send this kid to prep school in OH and college (Maybe VA, like VA Poly - there were 9 or more VA colleges at that time period), probably a John, and blood type AB to pass on like grandpa did? Did grandpa have siblings?

For that matter, are there any blood type experts out there with any idea of where, in which global populations, AB type was more likely, say back in the 1860s?

His career included working with Lee DeForest on the audion tube, early wireless telegraphy, ham radio ARRL, and an assortment of organizations which include Masons, Shriners, Knight of Pythias, and volunteered from OH for about 6 months' enlistment during Spanish American War, during which he spent maybe a month on active duty. He worked for Westinghouse and General Electric, wore a fireman's hat, and played detective for the US government. I think he got on a train in 1882, and off again somewhere, on and off again and again. We have an 1892 tintype of him done in for-pete's-sake Los Angeles CA. Every document's info varies, including the statements on marriage licenses. He died in FL 1934. I wonder if he ever flew in an airplane ...
