Note: William Chapman made his will on 24 July 1850.

South Carolina,Spartanburg District

Know all men by these presents that I William Chapman being now of Sound and disposing mind memory and understanding do make and adopt this as my last will and testament.
1st. I will that all my just debts be paid
2d. I will that my daughter Louisa Nickols have thirty acres of land around the house where she now lives to be laid off to her by my Executor. I also will that she Shall Receive one hundred dollars in cash as her full share of
my Estate.
3rd. I will to my daughter Mary Copeland wife of William Copeland one hundred dollars in cash to be paid to her as her full Share of my Estate both of my daughters Louisa & Mary having heretofore Re'd more than my other
children and the amounts above bequeathed to them I Estimate as their full & Equal Share of my Estate.
4th. I will that all my property both Real & Personal be Sold and the proceeds divided Equally between my wife Elizabeth Chapman and my thirteen
children not named above viz. My sons John H. Chapman, William H. Chapman & Jones Chapman and My daughters Martha McDowell wife of David McDowell, Elizabeth Copeland wife of Charles Copeland, Judith Copeland wife of John Copeland, Sarah Copeland wife of Josep[h] Copeland, Ann Ramsy wife of Rice Ramsy, Lucy Clement wife of Lemuel Clement, Mirah Green wife of William I [J?]. Green, Emily McDowell wife of Hugh McDowell, Elender Clement wife of E. P. Clement & Nancy Bullington wife of Jesse Bullington. my said wife and
my thirteen children last above named to Receive all the Proceeds of the Sale of my Estate Equally Share and Share alike and I will that my Executor Shall Sell all my Estate and divide it as above Stated. I desire that the
Sale of my land Shall be made on the premises by Giving fair notice of the Same by Advertisement and my Executor Shall & is hereby authorized and Empowen[?] to make letters, Deeds, and acquittances fully as Executor & that
he use his own discretion about Collecting debts & Extending credits within any Reasonable time Such as in his Judgment may be to the interest of my Said heirs. and I further authorize and Empower my Executor to advertise my
lands as above Stated to be sold on the premises at his own discretion without making application to the Court of Equity in any form whatever but he may Sell & Convey as fully and Effectively as I could myself Subject only
to Such Restsrictions as are Embraced in this will. but I desire him to Sell my land & divide the proceeds without applying for authority to do so from any Court he being fully authorized by this will to make Sale of the
same at or on such terms as may seem best allowing one two & three years credit if he Should deem it prudent to do so.
5. I will that my wife Elizabeth Shall retain & keep all her property which She brought to my house after our marriage and also she is to have one half what she has or shall have made Since our marriage that is one half the
furniture &c which she has had made since our marraige.
6th. I desire that my three Sons John H. William H. and Jones Shall have & keep [--ill?] my wearing apparel without Exposing them to Sale.
7. And lastly I appoint my friend Gabriel Cannon my Executor with full and ample power to carry out & Execute this my last will and testament feeling feeling [sic] full confidence that he will do Justice to all concernd.
Signed Sealed and acknowledged this 24th day of July 1850 in presence of
J. J. Bullington

Note:
The will and testament of Wm. Chapman, deceased, was proved by evidence of J. J. Bullington and William T. Wilkins and Gabriel Cannon qualified as executor on 19 Feb. 1855. The petition filed by Cannon on 19 Feb. 1855 stated that William Chapman died on the 16th ["last"].
