I had a hand written family tree help me out but the next generation older doesn't seem correct and I can't find out who Toussaint's father is.

Felix Charbonneau was murdered for his pay on his way home from work in the Spring of 1851. His body was found a week later on the bank of the Detroit River. The lived in a log cabin near the military fort close to the Detroit River. The 1860 Federal Census lists Felix's wife, Marguerite living with her daughter Eleanor Charbonneau Benoit and single children. Louis, Moses, John, Augusta and Josephine Charbonneau. I can not locate this family in the 1850 census. Josephine was born 4 months after her father's murder in Detroit. I would appreciate any information concerning this incident. Please contact me at kildimo@hotmail

"Although Jean Baptiste may have not married while in the duke's service, he did father a child, born on February 20, 1829, with an unmarried German woman, according to recent research by Firla. Listed on baptismal records in Bad Mergentheim as Anton Fries, his parents are noted as "Johann Baptist Charbonnau of St. Louis 'called the American in the service of Duke Paul of this place and Anastasia Katharina Fries, unmarried daughter of the late Georg Fries, a soldier here.'" The child died three months later, after which Jean Baptiste left for the United States."

I see a lot of people online who post that Jean did marry and have several children. But have not yet ever seen actual evidence of this. No one ever scans and includes a copy of any surviving marriage record or license.

I really would like to see something concrete that can prove even one official marriage for him. So many people say he was, but ALL official books, historians, web sites, and the National Parks documentation say that he was never married.

If there is a person out there anywhere who could show definite hard copy proof, it would literally change history - this is why I keep asking. DNA testing alone isn't going to prove it - a Charbonneau direct descendant is going to have the same markers, no matter which Charbonneau man they descend from.

Does ANYone out there have proof positive? A surviving marriage license? An actual documented record from a surviving record book of a church or other place that would have recorded marriages? this is what is needed - much more than just "stating" that he married, and then listing kids.

I'm serious - it would actually change history if someone has one and can prove without doubt! That's why I think it's so very important that solid, concrete, irrefutable proof be shown.

There are no records showing that Toussaint and Sacagawea's two children married and had children of their own. Lisette died as a child. Jean-Baptiste never married.

However, there were many Jean-Baptiste Charbonneau's during the same time period, and I have to wonder if it may be these men that people are finding and attaching to Sacagawea. My own 3rd great grandfather was Jean-Baptiste Charbonneau. Same time period, same area as the rest of the Charbonneau family. It has caused extreme confusion when attempting to locate and track down records.

My Jean-Baptiste was a great nephew of Toussaint, so the whole historical aspect still ties in. But the famed Jean never had children. Nor did his sister Lisette.

Jean Baptiste married a Charlotte Dumont Guery around 1835. they had William, Barbara & Edna some time around 1840 and then came Charles in 1840 and Joseph in 1843. As to any records for the children they would have had, I have not been able to find any to verify they had children. If you were to come across any since getting this information, I would greatly appreciate knowing what you discover.

Toussaint Charbonneau and Sacajawea had a sone, Jean Baptiste Charbonneau. He was born 2-11-1805 and died 5-16-1866. He married and had 5 children, one died at an early age. William, Barbara, Edna, Charles and Joseph were the children.
The child you refer to is Lisset Charbonneau which was the child of Toussaint and Otter Woman (another native wife). Information is easily found to that point.

It is located off hwy 95 between mileposts 37 and 38
It is not being taken care of and is overgrown.

I don't think I can upload them as they are too large and don't know how to decrease the size. I will send one or two at a time if anyone wants them.

I have a tremendous amount on the entire family lines that are connected to the Charbonneau line.

My problem is - my gr-gr-grandmother was Eleonor Ursule Charbonneau. She was the daughter of Jean-Baptiste Charbonneau and Monique Dupont. Eleonor married Francois Fontaine-Bienvenu in about 1850.

I have a large percentage of the Charbonneau line back to Olivier, but my problem has been that it is very hard to locate anything on Eleonore. She is listed under several names, including Lenore, and is very hard to locate in Quebec records because of the various names she is listed under.

Would love to hear from any of the Charbonneau researchers! patty719@msn.com

Patricia Quinn Meigs

I too am searching the Charbonneau's as my husband's grandmother was Roseanne Charbonneau child of Jules Gideon Charbonneau and Rosalie Pillon. She married Achille Joseph Royer a decendent of Jean Royer and Marie Paisse who were among the Canadian pioneers that arrivied on the St. Andre.

I have quite abit of information on both families but there are holes here and there. Perhaps we can all help each other to fill our various blank spaces.

I know that there is still me searching out the Charbonneau line! I also come down from Olivier Charbonneau and Marie-Marguerite Garnier.

I'd have to dig out my files, but off the top of my head, I can tell you that my gr-gr-grandmother was Eleonor Ursule Charbonneau; she married Francois Fontaine-Bienvenu. Their daughter Marie Fontaine married Charles Maltais (also seen as Maltese); and their daughter Lillian Frances Maltais Duffy Quinn was my grandmother.

Eleonor been very hard to try and trace out, due to the fact that her father's name was Jean-Baptiste. Every time I try to do a general search, I come up with the son of Sacagawea lol.

I do have a fairly large amount of information concerning the Charbonneau line. My email is patty719@msn.com if you'd like to drop me a line! Hope to hear!

Patty Quinn Meigs
