YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO – Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 11, 2008 at the Third Baptist Church for Elvin E. Charity, 79, who departed this life Monday, October 6, 2008 at Forum Health Northside Medical Center.

Mr. Charity was born Aug. 31, 1929 in Youngstown, Mahoning County, OHIO, a son of Burl Sr. and Collin A. Washington Charity.

He retired in 1983 as a foreman at Republic Steel after 46 years. He worked for the city of Youngstown as a minority business officer and was the city park commissioner. He served on the Board of Mahoning Valley Sanitary District, was a former president of North High School Boosters, and was an Army veteran.

He leaves his wife, the former Laura J. Fortune, whom he married Nov. 10, 1949; children, Laura (Burnice) Hairston of Youngstown, Atty. Elvin E. Charity of Chicago, Dr. Allen A. (Claudia) Charity of Hubbard and Robert B. Charity of College Park, Ga.; siblings, Robert (Gertrude) Charity, Earl (Carol) Charity, and Kenneth (Patricia) Charity, all of Youngstown, Franklin (Rachael) Charity of Carrollton, Texas and Ruby (Nganga) Njoroge of Columbus; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

His parents; a sister, Bunise Ellison; and four brothers, Ronnie, Burl Jr., Joseph and Nathaniel Charity, preceded him in death.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.
