hello cousin, charles is my ggranfather, it was always thought that he came from sweden. i have a citaton that he got from mayor long john wenthworth. he was fire chief in hicago before the fire. charles was bipolar and the relationship with his wife catherine must have been rocky to say the least. if you would like a copy of the citation just say so. if you know any more about him and where he was born we(family) certainly want to hear about it. charles was very unstable and was an alcoholic. my g grandfather was casper. patrice gunderson in co. has done a great deal on charles. whatever you know please fill me in . he is buried in chicago right next to my grandparents.

Charleston from New Castle County, Delaware

Looking for information about this family. William was born in England abt 1809 and he died in 1893. His age varies significantly on different records. He was married to Lousia Hyatt born abt 1856 in Delaware died 1910. She had at least 8 children according to census records, William Jr, Louisa B, John, Richard, Anne Mary, Joesph are the ones that I know. My gg grandmother was Ada Charleston but I believe she was adopted since I cannot find any birth record and she was born 3 years after William died. On her marriage certificate from Wilmington, DE she list Wm and Lousia as her parents. Any information would be helpful.

You know what? I can't find me either. Goodness knows what's happened there. I shall have to make enquiries.

There are two other cousins on there, one is Richard BAKER and the other is Robert MILLER.

There are several others on the site that have our CHARLESTON details, but only the two above are bona fide relations.

You are right, it was a while ago since the posting.
But in that time, Albert has still remained elusive to all of us.
(There are 7 or so CHARLESTON cousins worldwide researching the family who are in touch with each other and share Eureka moments with each other)
I'm so pleased we will now be able to fill in some of the gaps we have on this particlar line.
I shall contact all the Cuz's and let them know about you.

Hello, I know that your post has been from a long time ago, but I think I have some information that you are looking for. My grandfather was Albert Edward Charleston. He was born January 22, 1901 in Lugdvan and his parents were Thomas and Elizabeth. He eventually settled in Detroit, MI and married my grandmother Frances. He had 4 children. Thomas, Albert, Mary and Robert, who is my father. My grandfather passed away in 1976. I have been looking for any information that I can find on our family, so I would appreciate anything you can provide. Also I will try and answer any questions that I can for you.

my g g grandfather came to chicago married catherine lauer and started what would become a very large family. his sons and daughters also married and had children. here we are 5 generations later and i am beginning to think i am related to almost everyone. charles and catherine lost william and mary and perhaps another child that i have been trying to find out about. if by any chance we are cousins of charles charleston coming from sweden or his wife catherine lauer from france please contact me? i have found about 5 or 6 direct relatives, there must be more out there that have a piece to the history of this family, if so please contact me?

Looking for information on Myrtle Charleston. b. 23 Aug. 1881 in California. (Would like to find out where) d. 6 oct. 1926 in Kansas City, Jackson, Missouri.

She married Joseph Madison. Their children are Eddie, Gladys, Ellie, Frank, Mary, and Chester.

Then she married George Harrington Elwood on 28 March 1917 in Kansas City, Jackson, Missouri. Their children are Henry, Jenny, Thomas, and Robert. Would also like to find out more on the Madisons. Thank you.

My grand father whos name is James Charleston was from Missouri. He had a son named James and he had 7 or 8 children. I never knew him but my father talked about him. He died when my father was a teen. My grandfather had several brothers that migrated all of the US. We did not know them either and are trying to locate some of my relatives. Yes, our Henry R. Charleston was born in 1842 and had sons Edwin (1874) and John (1868). Do you have any more info on Henry? If his parents name was Rodeback, where did Charleston come from?

Frank Charleston, b. 1856 in Sweden, along with his wife Emma and their children, Alfred, Frank, Allen, Magnes & Leon are listed in the 1900 Galveston, Texas census.

I've been researching the 1900 Galveston Hurricane and this census was taken about three months before the Hurricane hit. Hopefully this information will be of help to others who are also researching the victims and survivors of this Hurricane.

I'm researching my husband's family. His mother was a Charleston, Marie. Her father was Roy Charleston, b. Udall KS. His father was James. I don't have my info in front of me but will check if you think there may be a connection. James' obituary states he was born in WV, parents died young, he went west with the gold rush, was in the civil war in the Missouri rolls, moved to Nebraska and died there. Some of his children were born in Sangamon Co, IL and he was married to Mary Etta Davey. I believed he died in the 1930's. Let me know if you think there may be a connection. I'm having a real hard time with finding this family.

They are as follows
Tommy CHARLESTON b1892 living 1901 at Toloweth Terrace Long rock Lugdvan with parents Thos Jms & Elizab Mary CHARLESTON (nee PEARCE)
believed to have gone to Oz.

Albert Edward CHARLESTON b.1901 Ludgvan also same address C1901.
believed went to Chicago into Hotel business had at least two children.
Can find no records on either of them. Anyone have suggestions ?

Harry's brother was the David Morley CHARLESTON who was elected to the Senate in 1901 and became important in the Farmers and Producers Union.
His sister, Ellen was a great orator and was also political with the Suffragette movement.

Harry's son, Alan was also a photographer. ( Peter Pan Studio) I think
Have quite a lot on this branch of my Charleston clan.

I have some info on a Henry (c.1842) from PA...parents were James (c. 1809) and Margaret Ann Rodeback (1809) who married 3 Aug 1824 Newlin, Chester, PA. Does your Henry have sons, Edwin (1874) and John (1868)??

My Charleston began with Peter Charleston who was born in 1838 in Granville County North Carolina. He married a woman name Emma Unknown, and they had 4 children. their names

Edward Charleston- 1877
Hallie Charleston- 1879
James Charleston- 1878
John Charleston- 1862

James Charleston moved to Philadelphia and married a woman name Minne Unknown and they had 2 children. I don't have the name of the children but maybe one of them could be your father.

My ancestors are named Charleston. In fact, that is my maiden name. My father's people were from Missouri however, my father dad, James Charleston, had several brothers that he lost touch with so they may have migrated to NC.

Patrice, I saw your posting on Charles Charleston of Chicago. It would appear we are distantly related. Charles' wife was Katherine Lauer who was the sister of my gg grandfather Casper Lauer. I show their children as Casper, John, Edward, Carrie, Emma and Charles. Katherine Lauer was born 7/20/1818 in Bliesbruck, Moselle, Lorraine. The family immigrated to Buffalo in 1831. My gg grandfather Casper and a number of his siblings moved on to Chicago in the 1840s. I have a lot of information on the Lauers going back several generations from Katherine which I would be happy to share including a copy of Katherine's baptismal records. Hi Loreena....there is a Peter Charleston b. 1869 that shows in 1881 Canadian census living in Edwardsburg, Grenville South, Ontario.

Parents: Jacob (Jamaica) and Ann (English)
Children: John, Ann, Mary, Harriet, Michael, Jane, Emma, Willliam and Nottie.
Don't be thrown by the fact they came from Jamaica as many Scots were sent to the Islands after the Jacobite rebellion.

Hello out there. I have just started researching my husbands ancestors and its all very interesting. I'm from New York State, St. Lawrence Co. near the canadian border. It is beleived and I do have some information to the affect that Peter Charleson, who is my husbands grandfather resided inWinchester twp. around 1890. He married Ada Strader which we believe was from Matilda Twp and whose parents were possibly Stirling Strader and Bridget Doyle. We have no information on possible parents for Peter. Thelma Charleston Dalton

I have several (50) pictures that belonged to Thelma Charleston Dalton (birthdate 1/4/1904) that I obtained from an estate sale (her first husband John's) about 10 years ago. From these pictures, I was able to piece together much of her life story. I obtained a copy of her application for Social Security which lists the names of her parents. Father: Charles Edward Charleston Mother: Bertha Bahrs. Thelma was born in San Francisco and worked in Oakland at Dalton Brothers, Ltd. - 467 12th Street at the time of her SS application. From the pictures it appeared that she spent most of her adult life in Fresno. It also apprears that she was married twice. Her first marriage was to John Krueseff (spelling) where they adopted a son, Richard. Her second marriage was to Walter Hass (Sacramento). She died in Sacramento I believe in 1997. If anyone knows any information regarding Thelma's family. I have some fantastic pictures of her that I have been saving for her family. She was true beauty and I feel she wants me to save these pictures for her family.
