Erastus Allen Charter was my great-grandfather. He was from Connecticut, not Canada. His great-grandfather fought
in the Revolutionary War and is buried in the cemetery on the old Charter Homestead, Lake Crystal, CT. Erastus Charter was a member of Company H, 96th Illinois infantry and was in the Civil War from August 1862 until the end. We have extensive history of the Charter family and I portray Erastus as an old Civil War Veteran at Memorial Day and Veteran's Day services. I know that your inquiry is old.
