George Charter(s) c1850-1909 - Toronto area & NY

Looking for information on George Charter(s) who appeared in Brewster, Putnam, NY by 1872 and married there Josephine Losee. Had his own dry goods store until it burned down, and worked for the Borden milk factory until his death in 1909.

Suspect that this George Charter(s) was born to Joseph Charter and Mary Ann Egan of York Township, Ontario. The family also lived in Toronto. Joseph Charter was born circa 1809 and was buried in 1870 at St. James Anglican Church in Toronto.

Other members of the Joseph Charters and Mary Ann Egan family include daughters Jane (m. Benjamin Graham) and Mary; sons Thomas, Henry and Joseph. This Joseph may have lived in nearby Connecticut and was enumerated there in the 1900 census.

I believe this George Charter was first married to Mary Ann Johnson in Toronto in 1866. Married second, Josephine Losee in Brewster NY in 1872. I believe that the groom in both marriages is the same man but looking for confirmation.

Joseph Charter (c1809-1870) may be connected to George Charters of Scarborough, Ontario in the 1861 census.

Please reply if you have information on the same.
Female Charter married name Mitchel or Mitchell

I have been attempting to located my 5th great grandfather and have run into a serious brick wall. His name is Charter Mitchell b pre 1774. His children were born in the 1780's in Tazewell County, VA. I have decided to give something a try here. His first name is Charter, or at least we think that is his first name. It is the only one we have found for him. I am wondering if maybe his mother's maiden name might have been Charter. So, is there anyone out there who know's of a female, maiden name Charter who married a Mitchel or Mitchell in the early 1770's? The possible location is PA and we believe he may have been Scotch-Irish. Thanks.

Would be interested in hearing from anyone with information about the decendants of James Charter, Marlboro, VT, who moved to Boston in the 1800s. Of particular interest is James' son, Daniel, who married Susan Donnison, and thier daughters, Susan Charter Humphrey, and Pamela Charter Nimmons (sometimes spelled Parmelia or Parmela).
Susan, and her two daughters died in Massachusetts, Daniel is said to have died in Urbana, 1856.

Thanks for any assistance.

Charters in Boston

There are many Charter family members in Boston descended
from Barnett Charter who emigrated from Russia in 1910. The
original name was Charteritsky. The spelling of some family members
is Chartor. The family settled in the West End and then moved
to Mattapan.

Allen Charter of Ellington CT

Does anyone have any ancestry on ALLEN CHARTER and wife Dorcas (maiden name unk.)who lived in Ellington CT in the late 1700s? They had a daughter, Betsy Charter b. perhaps about 1792 who m. Charles [4]Bradway ca. 1810 and had (Bradway): 1) Betsy b. ca. 1812 (birth yr. estimated from guardianship record), 2)Harriet b. 20 Mar 1815 and 3)Charles Hiram b. 9 Apr 1819.

Betsy (Charter) Bradway died young, probably ca. 1823 or so (from a family note) and Charles [4] Bradway d. 15 Dec 1828, leaving the 3 children orphans. Betsy [5] Bradway disappears from all records (and from any family knowledge). Harriet [5] m. a 2nd cousin, Olney [5] Bradway in 1834 and removed to Medina OH. Charles Hiram [5] Bradway lived with a Bradway uncle and aunt in Monson MA and was my husband's gt. grandfather. I know that there were quite a few Charters in and around Crystal Lake CT, but can't figure out just how they might have been related.

Betsy Charter had a brother Daniel and a sister Lucy who m. Ben Bullard. Both resided in Springfield MA. Lucy was known to family as "Auntie Bullard."

Although I have never had much time to explore the Charters, I've found a few records for Allen in Ellington, but nothing to establish any ancestry.

Bette Innes Bradway, CG

If you go to the library in Ellington they can direct you to the homestead. Ed Ludwig currently lives in the Charter home and his sister Charlotte lives across the street....she is the person to speak with as I believe he isn't particularily interested in the family history. I found Charlotte to be very enthusiastic and helpful and very very nice. Ed and Charlotte's Mother was a Charter. She married a Ludwig. I believe Charlotte may work at the library...possibly as a volunteer?? They should be able to direct you.

Kathy (from Auburn, CA)

John Charter, son of Thomas and Mary, married one of Jeffery Cron's daughters. She was born about 1772 in Kirkpatrick-Fleming Parish in Dumfriesshire, Scotland. I think her name was Mary, maybe Maisie. They had 1 known son, Thomas and then disappeared. They must either have gone south into Cumberland and then (possibly) left for Canada. Mary's brother William Cron (e) left Cumberland in 1828 for Scarborough in Ontario. Maybe the Charters did too. Do you know anything about this family?
