My name is Crystal. Flonnie Chastain was my grandmother. She was born Nov. 3, 1923. She passed away on July 19, 1999. She married a man named Albert Carter. Not sure of the marriage date. she had 2 kids from her first marriage. My uncle Johnny Lawson and my mother Brenda Lawson. After she married Albert she had 5 more kids. They are "Buddy" Carter, Sandra, Faye, Ingrid and debbie. Any information on the Chastain relatives would be greatly appreciated.

I am having a lot of difficulty finding any info on the ancestors of a James Whitt Chastain (also sometimes described as James Wiatt Chastain)

Death: August 29, 1882, Forsyth Co, Georgia
Spouse: Elizabeth Clayton Smith

It appears he may be one of the "disconnected" Chastains. Any hints would be appreciated.

Hello, cousins,

A couple of years ago, my sister came across a farmhouse in Fannin County which had fallen into disrepair. It had a bronze plaque out front which identified it as the home of Jason Coward CHASTAIN (1818-1904), if I understand correctly. She inquired about it and learned that it still belonged to a Chastain descendant.

Last week, she noticed that the house is apparently in the process of being rebuilt. The bronze plaque was gone.

Does anyone know if this property is still in the family?
Is the history of this place being preserved?

I am looking for my information on my great-great-grandfather, John D Chastain. He was married to a Nancy or Mary E. Jackson per family history. He had 4 children that I know of - William b abt 1853, Susan C Chastain b abt 1868(m John R Summers), Frank E Chastain b abt 1872 in Macon Cty, MO, and Norah Belle Chastain my great-grandmother born abt 1876 m Thomas Palmer 1892 or 1893 d in 1933. I have a picture that just has Frank & Norah Belle, and a couple of pictures labeled Aunt Susie Summers. The only census information I can make sense of is the 1880 census record, and John is listed as William. Family history states John was French; 1880 census says his father was born in France. Fannie Pearl Chastain White Abt 1900-1937, race is white...was living in Seminole County (maybe Donalsonville) Georgia, at time of death. (Chastain...not sure of spelling. Sounds like Chasteen, Chastaine. Not sure if maybe Chastain was a married name. Possibe she was married to a Chastain, then married a White). Possibly lived in Texas before coming to/back to Seminole County Georgia in the early 1930's, where she had two children. She possibly was married in TX or GA to a White, other than the White I list next. She had two children in Seminole, the children's father was Thomas Franklin White. Children: Ada Pearl White b. 1931 and Norman Eddie White b. 1934. Fannie Pearl is buried in Friendship Cemetery in Donalsonville. I think maybe Fannie Pearl's family was from Seminole/Decatur/Early. I would love to know ANYTHING about her or her siblings and parents.

Thomas Franklin White moved from Donalsonville after the death of Fannie Pearl. Relocated in Foley, AL.

My grandmother, Fannie Pearl Chastain is buried in Donalsonville, GA (Seminole Co). Race is white. The info I have on her isn't much. Born in 1900 possible TX, GA or AL and died in GA in 1937 with a kidney problem. I'm not 100% sure of the dates that I stated, since she died when my father was 3. At time of death she was married to or at least having children with Thomas Franklin White. Fannie & Thomas had two children while in Donalsonville, before her death. Children: Ada Pearl White (1931-) & Norman Eddie White (1934-2005). Fannie & Norman Eddie both are buried in Friendship Cemetery in Donalsonville. I have found no records of birth, marriage or census for Fannie Pearl Chastain White. I did find a death certificate that I believe is her. On Ancestry I found in the GA Deaths (1919-1998)a Mrs. T F White, DOD 12 Mar 1937, Seminole County GA. She was living with Thomas Franklin White at time of death.

Ella Chastain
STARKE-Ella Mae Sapp Chastain, 86, of Starke, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2007, at Shands Starke following a brief illness.
Born on Feb. 5, 1921, Chastain was a lifelong resident of Bradford County. She was a homemaker and a member of Madison Street Baptist Church in Starke.
Chastain is survived by: a daughter, Sue Williams of Starke; a son, Tommy Chastain of Starke; sisters, Selma Ray, Hazel Warren, Marie Tilley and Margaret Reese; grandchildren, Buddy Williams of Keystone Heights, Erica Chastain of Jacksonville, Karen Crews and Alison Chastain, both of Starke; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Chastain were held Sept. 4 in the DeWitt C. Jones Chapel at Jones Funeral Home in Starke with Chaplain Billy Nix and the Rev. Charles Warren conducting the services. Interment followed in Crosby Lake Cemtery under the care of Jones Funeral Home.

Note: I am of no relation, but my sympathies go out to those of you who are. This is here as a lasting memorial for Mrs. Chastain.

Habersham county Georgia Land Grants circa 1830 to (Thomas?) Martin and Blassingame Chastain

In my Chastain family research I have acquired copies of 250 acre land grants from April 1830 to Martin (thirteenth district, lot 60) and Blassingame Chastain (thirteenth district, lot 159), who resided in Burney's District of Washington County, Georgia at the time of the grants. Blassingame Chastain, born 1780-1790 in Virginia, is known to be a son of Peter and Elizabeth Howell Chastain. Researchers are unsure of how many children Peter had. Martin is not listed in Volume 1 of Pierre Chastain and His Descendants as a son of Peter, but a Thomas M. Chastain, son of Peter, is listed and is noted living in Washington County, Georgia according to an 1825 tax list. Perhaps Thomas' middle name was Martin. If anyone is interested I can scan the grants and send them a copy.

I actually think that I might have it traced all the way to Pierre now. I would like to find more pictures or facts about my ancestors though. This is what I have for my ancestors. 1.Estienne Chastain, 2. Pierre Sr., 3. Pierre Jr.(Peter) 4. Rev. John Chastain, 5. Edward Brigand Chastain, 6. John C. Chastain, 7. Joseph DeKalb Chastain, 8. As for the subject line I actually don't remember putting that subject down, so I don't know where it came from. The Peter listed is Pierre Jr. I think, because that is the only Peter in my list. Attached is the death certificate for William Hansford Chastain, born in Arkansas to Joseph C. and Charlotte Jane Chastain. He married Delia Lytal in Sebastian County, Arkansas 29 November 1893. W.H. Chastain died in Paris, Texas 11 May 1927.

I have been trying for a long time to verify a commonly stated marriage of James Vest and Dinah Chastain. This appears in several Rootsweb listings regarding James Vest. An example is:

James Vest's will was filed in Chesterfield Co, VA on Jan 6, 1795, and he lists his wife as "Diner". After James's death that same year, Stephen Chastain was named as guardian of James's son Raney (similar to a Chastain family name). So the Chastain connection is reasonable.

I have never been able to find any other reference to a Chastain named Diner or Dinah. I assume the name Diner is a variation of her real given name. It could also be that she was first married to a male Chastain.

I would sure appreciate any leads or ideas.

On January 20, 1823 Mary Chastain, widow of John Chastain, signed a renunciation of dower that was recorded in the Pendleton District of South Carolina, although she actually resided at that time in St Claire County, Alabama. The land she signed away her interest in was 50 acres on Wooley Creek of the Saluda River, which John Chastain was living on at the time of his death. His provision for the land was that it go to his wife, Mary, during her lifetime or widowhood, then to their youngest son, William. The details of the document appear to allow William Chastain to sell the land to John Chastain Junior. William and Mary resided in Alabama at the time. John's residence was not stated, but appears to be South Carolina. The witnesses to the document were Peter Robertson and William Chastain. IN 1820 a John Chastain (spelled Chesteen n the census), age 16-26, and his wife, in the same age range, were recorded on page 45 of the Pendleton District census. On the same page were the Amos, Abram and Obediah Chastain (spelled Chesteen) families. I hope this information helps someone sort out their Chastain line.

In the 1860 census for Pike Township/City, Marion Co., IN there is a Mary J. Chastain, age 12, born KY living in the household of a Richard Hill, age 30, occupation - Miller, wife Catherine age 20, born IN and their dau Ida age 1, born IN. In the same household is a Thomas Chastain, age 33, born KY, occupation- Mill Hand.

Mary Jane is my great grandmother and I believe that she moved to IN from KY to stay with family following the death of her father, George Chastain, in 1859. However, I've been unable to figure out exactly what relationship Thomas Chastain was to her.

Is anybody familiar with him?

Matilda J. Chastain born 1840 in Indiana is my gg grandmother. I know of no stories of her and her family. She was married in Laclede Co., Mo. in abt. 1857 to Reuben P. Day she had at least 6 children who lived, 1 Polly , her first died before 1870 in Laclede county Mo. I am looking for someone who may know about stories of her and her family. Her dad was Isaac Chastain, her mother was Mary "Polly" (Robbins) Chastain. Matilda died in March or May of 1883 in Sebastain County, Arkansas. Her children in order of birth were: Polly, Francis A. (female), Robert A. (my g grandfather born 1865-67 in Laclede Co. Mo.) George H. or A., Isaac A., Nancy E., Franklin Benjamin Day born 1880 in Arkansas.

A funeral ceremony for John "JB" Chastain will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005 at Memory Gardens Chapel, Medford, Oregon. Pastor Mark Anderson of Ashland Christian Fellowship will officiate. A visitation will be from 3 to 7:30 p.m. at Memory Gardens Chapel.

Mr. Chastain, 86, of Central Point, Oregon, died Saturday (Oct. 29, 2005) at his home.

He was born on July 5, 1919 in Choteau, Oklahoma to Ruben and Dora Chastain. On July 20, 1940 in Burbank, California, he married Jeanette Eileen Chastain, who survives. They moved to Central Point in 1946.

JB served in the U.S. Navy during WWII at Okinawa and Iwo Juma aboard the USS Newberry and the USS Astoria.

He worked at Timber Products for 35 years.

JB enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.

In addition to his wife of 65 years, Jeanette, survivors include, two sons, LeeRoy and Larry Chastain of White City; a daughter, Leah Rae Chastain of Medford; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, and four sisters.

John and Arie are both buried at Silverbrook Cem. in Anderson, SC where they had made their home.

I believe that John's mother was P.M. Ollie and that he had a brother R.D. Chasteen/Chastain.

John married Arie Elkin b. 9/16/1879 d. 5/27/1955 and they had 2 or 3 children. 1) Ressie Margaret b. 3/9/1919 and 2)Willie Mae. Family oral history says that John and Arie had another child but I have not found a record of this person.

I have looked through all the census information on the internet and cannot find this family anywhere.

I was hoping someone in this group would be familiar with this family or could give me some advice.

I'm a Chastain by birth, and have been trying desperately to enter the Chastain Association Website, but to date, access is denied. Does anyone know how to get into the website? My great-grandfather, was John M. Chastain, son of Abner Chastain, Father of William Chastain, my grandfather. Anyone with any information, or knowledge of how to get into the site, would be greatly received.

They had three children, Lela, born 1901; Irma, born 1907 and Eleanor, born 1910.

Sigh. This brick wall is getting thicker. Does anyone out there have any info in their research regarding (possibly (C or K) Cathryn "Katie" Chastain and her daughter Myrtle? Katie (we ae unsure of exact name) was married to Joseph E. Chastain around 1895 supposedly in Bristow, Creek County, Oklahoma. They had two children: Myrtle Chastain born 1896 and William John born 1897. I have all the information from William John back to even before Pierre and the family in France... I have info from William John down to descendants today. Our family has been searching for Katie and Myrtle for over 25 years. At one point it was supposed that Katie took Myrtle to Texas after the divorce from Joseph... Joseph kept William to raise. Anyone with any information would be truly appreciated! (I do belong to PCFA).
