Edward George Albert Chatfield-England

I am searching for Edward George Albert Chatfield born in 1925 in Mile End, London, England, or his descendants. He is the son of my grandfather's brother, Edward Chatfield (born 1892) and Georgina Elizabeth Harris Chatfield.

My grandfather, Albert Edward Chatfield, left England in the early 1920's, eventually settling in the U.S. I am trying to track family members who may still be living in England. I have several generations of Chatfield genealogy to share.

Thank you.

Carol

I don't know if you are still looking for someone who might be intrested in the albums but if so may I suggest you contact Hector William Munro of Foulis and especially his wife Sarah Margaret Katharine nee Duckworth (known as Alpha because she was the eldest twin, her sister being Beta). She is the daughter of Mary Katharine Medina Chatfield OBE the daughter of Admiral Alfred Ernle Montacute Chatfield, 1st Baron of Ditchling. He was the grandson of Robert Money Chatfield.

They live at Foulis Castle, Evanton, Ross-shire, Scotland, IV16 9UX http://www.clanmunro.org.uk/castle.htm

Rev. Robert Money CHATFIELD and Colin John CHATFIELD (myself) are 6th cousins 5 times removed. My son, Kevin, who contaced you several times is obviously once removed further.

I'm afraid I can't help you with living closer relatives, my Dad knew the 2nd Lord Chatfield who was of that line but he died a few years ago in Canada and had no children.

When it comes to photographs I suspect the camera hadn't been invented when my direct line were close to Robert Money Chatfield's line.

If you do manage to find a much closer living decendent would you please let me know.

Sorry for the delay in answering Kevin, I've been more than a little under the weather and not doing much lately!!

I was really hoping to find a closer relative who has some of these folks as direct line ancestors if possible. I'm guessing you can see the tree? If not, let me know and I'll send you a direct link. If you let me know your direct line either here or privately, I'll have a look through the albums and see if any of your people or their relatives have their names penciled on the back.
All the best,
Les

You wouldn't happen to have a DORINDA Chatfield b 1808 d 15 Jan 1837 St Dunston, Cheam, England.
She married William Moss b 11 Dec 1798 East Ham, Essex co., England d 15 Jan 1837
They were married 16 July 1821 in White Hall, Middlesex, England.
I have a copy of saying when and where they married but it doesn't have her parents nor William's. And that (Dorinda) is the name on it.
I do have all of the Moss clan tho.
I am 81 yrs young and have been searching for her for almost 50 yrs now.
Dot in NH rankin@tds.net
I am a 6th Cousin 6 x removed of Robert Money Chatfield. Not sure how you want me to prove it but I accept your challenge!

I am not connected with this family in any way, but recently saw some very old albums for sale at a car boot sale in Spain.
I bought them to save them from the dustbin, and have cobbled together what I can of what seems to be a fairly large and impressive tree, with two Admirals of the fleet, a Baron and many clergy included!
I am trying to find a living Chatfield who would be descended from or related to Robert Money, or a living Rhodes who would be descended from or related to Dorothea Eira. He died in 1993 and she in early 2011. They were married in 1949.
There are several albums ranging from the late 1800's photographs of Chatfields in South Africa, to mid 50's in England.
Here's hoping someone will benefit from this lost treasure!!

All children, nephews, nieces and cousins welcome......but you'll have to prove it before you get them ;-)

Ok-this may seem like a strange question but is there an "Ann" or "Anne" Moss in your Moss line that would have been an adult in 1855 and could have been witness to a marriage? I am asking because there is an Ann or Anne that witnessed both my g-grandfather Richard Chatfield's marriage to Ann Catherine Taylor (1860) and also his brother Edmond's marriage to Mary Lyons (1850). I thought her surname was "Boss" but on closer inspection of the signature and looking at Dorinda & William's marriage record the "Moss" & "Boss" names are almost interchangeable. Additionally, Richard & Edmond were also married at St. Mary's, like Dorinda. By the way, is that you on genesreunited with the post about Dorinda born 1800 in East Ham?

I have no idea about Cheam but I have an idea it is the same St. Dunston's as yours. Just seems strange that both being born in close dates and White Chapel and St. Dunston's is more then a coiincidence I would say.
I do have a copy of what I call a marriage certificate which states the date of marriage and both Dorinda and William's names and where it took place.
Yep they sure are a mystery!!!

All of the Moss men were either farriers with my gggrandfather being veternarian. I do know that my ggrandfather was William Kilita Moss was b in East Ham and raised in London, then went to Leamington Spa. but that is not the Chatfields, Dorinda was his grandmother. Kilita did make the newspapers tho for drowning of his wife in a river. My grandfather told of the story.
Dot in NH

The Chatfields in London around 1800 are surely a mystery! Right now I have no information on John Chatfield prior to his marriage. The 1841 census records puts his birth year about 1806. The 1851 census indicates he was born in Whitechapel and puts his birth record about 1807. That being said, his wife, Caroline's age on the 2 census records is off (1841 says she was born in 1806 the same as John; 1851 puts her age as 6 yrs. younger. In reality, she was born abt. Feb. 1805 according to her baptism record). John's burial record puts his year of birth as 1805. Certainly the timing would be good with your Dorinda but right now I have no additional information. I also don't know how far apart these places are or if John was actually born in Whitechapel. Do you know where it is in relation to White Hall and Cheam? I know that East Ham is right in that same area.

Still digging......

On freebmd.org I found a death register for Robert William Macormac. Registered in the quarter ending March 1899 aged 44. The death was registered in Weymouth (another maritime port). If you want to order it is vol. 5a, page 215. You can order it from the public records office online..I have a link somewhere....

Anyway, it is the right age to be your gg grandfather. I also did a query on the National Archived documents online for a Robert William Macormac. It came back with: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/details-r...

That link is to his service record, I believe. You can order it online for about £3.50, it's a download.

The plot thickens......

I've been doing a little digging (I can't resist a mystery).

I found a marriage for Charlotte Catherine Emily Chatfield in Portsea in 1885. It was on Freebmd.org and they didn't have the groom information for some reason.

In the 1891 census there is a Robert W. Macormac (age 39 b. Southampton) and Emily Chatfield (age 28 b. Forton, Gosport) living in Torpoint, Cornwall. Robert was an Engineroom Artificer.

We have the beginnings of some maritime connections in terms of occupation and places of birth and marriage.

I was able to find an Emily Chatfield age 8 in 1871 census, b. Forton, Gosport. Her parents were John and Charlotte. Two brothers John age 10 and Charles age 5. I'm pretty sure this is yours because of the age, place of birth, and mother's name. And she used Emily in the 1891 census.

In 1881 Emily is age 18 (b. Gosport) living with her aunt and uncle in Bosham. Her brother Charles, age 15 is there. Charles is listed as a sailor on a Man of War.

1881 there is a John Chatfield age 20, b. Southsea listed as an Able Seaman on board the HMS Seaflower. HMS Seaflower was a training vessel.

I can't find him in 1891, so perhaps he was at sea.

1901 John Chatfield, age 40, b. Southsea, boarder in Havant. Occupation: house painter.

So I have an idea.....Perhaps the J Chatfield AB MFA was Charlotte Catherine Emily Chatfield's brother. He had a maritime career before retiring sometime around 1891. Then, when WWI broke out, he enlisted in the Mercantile Fleet Auxiliary because he had the experience. Perhaps he never married, and therefore had no children. Because of this, when he died (during or after the War), the medals went to his sister, your great grandmother.

If that is true, then yours is the family that the medals belong to.
Ah, I just realised that you are looking for a Chatfield. Well, the theory is the same. But if your ancestor was also in WWI, and you have his details, you might be able to surmise that they were both in the same unit.

Is there a service number on the medals? If so, you can narrow down which Rob MacCormac the medals were issued to. The WWI medal index cards are available on The National Archives website: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/medals.as... There is a fee to get the actual record online. If you have an Ancestry.com account they are there as well.

The medal indexes will confirm what medals were awarded to the individual, and other additional information that might be useful in identifying your medal holder.

That might be a start.

Good luck

I am searching for the family of J Chatfield A.B. M.F.A. as I have three WW1 medals with this inscription on them. My name is Rob Macormac and this J Chatfield will have known my Grand father Robert Charles Macormac, whose father was Robert William Macormac. Robert William was married to Charlotte Catherine Emily Chatfield Birth 22 JUN 1862 in Portsea Hampshire, England and I think this where the link comes how these medals came into my grand fathers possession I do not know, but I would like to return them to the right family ASAP
