I hate to say this, but I cannot find what I did with Jane ann chauvin b 1781. I do not find her under Noel and Jane chauvin. I have Noel's children from 1859 to 1772. My line runs from Noel, francis b 1766, francis, 1821.
I am still looking for the connection of francis b 1821 and charles born to same family. the first 3 children were well documented. they also changed their name to chovin.

By tracing back from the census records, Leonie was the d/o Joseph Thomas Chauvin and Victoria Levesque married 17 Oct 1893 Pointe Aux Roches. Her Mother died in 1910 and her Father in 1911. In the 1911 Census Leonie is living with her Grandmother, Nathalie Sauve [First marriage to John Baptiste Chauvin] who is, by then, married to Louis Lefebvre.

What other names do you have? My great grandmother was born in Detroit, Elizabeth Chauvin. Her father was Joseph Chauvin and her mother was Julia Dubuque, they are both listed as French Canadian in the 1910 US census.
On my great grandmothers marriage certificate a witness is Rosaire Chauvin and his father is Peter Chauvin all from Quebec.

This is Paul the board & List "Mom".
We would love to help you BUT we need as much info as you have to get started.

It is best if you do the stuff later than 1930 (in the US) & 1900(in Canada). Other than the Social Security Death Index we have few sources.
Talk to the family elders.
Find who handled the successions and get copies.
Visit the cemeteries. Get all the info on the stones and of the people next to them & across from them.
Use the death dates to look for obits in the paper.

Share with us after 1930 things like:
(share later info off list with those that help you if they ask)
What is your fathers full name & any nicknames. Date or best guess of birth and Location.
Same info on your mother. What was her birth family name?
What are the names of your parents brothers & sisters? Your Grandparents? (Someone may already have an uncle or aunt but not your Parent.)

I was able to find these people and put them in a chart for you. I sent you an invitation to see the family tree I have started begining with Warren Chauvin. These people are very interesting. I really believe that I have your family here. My research was from census records here at ancestry. I think your great great grandfather was Francois Chauvin and I think he was a free person in 1860. He and some of his descendants were bricklayers and masons. He is counted in the Veterans schedule in 1890. I am hoping to find out farther back than 1860.
So it goes like this: Your father Warren was born in 1918. Warren's father was Raoul born in 1887. Raoul's father was Joseph born in 1854 and Joseph's father was Francois born in 1815.
I hope you can see the tree I made for you and look at the census pages and other records I used in finding the information.

Do you have a name? Something other than your sign in moniker. As far as I know I am descended from the french (white). If there is any creole in my family tree, I don't know about it. My parents had little to do with their direct siblings or other family members. Don't know why, but it's been hard trying to track down family escendants. After my father graduated from high school in St. Martinville, he moved to Bossier City to help his sister out when her husband was killed in an automobile/train accident. That is where he met my mother. I have always wanted to visit the town of "Chauvin" in Louisiana. I'm pretty sure I would not have to correct anybody's pronounciation of my last name or spell it. Yes, I am a Chauvin. My father's name is Henry Paul Chauvin. He had the following brothers: Serge Marcel, Joseph Nolan, John Washington and Clifford Rex. For now, just concentrate on the men folk in your family tree line whose last name was Chauvin. You might try to find a copy of your parent's marriage license. It might show your father's parents as well as your mother's. Sometimes they do and sometimes they don't. Another good souce of information is the East Baton Rough Parish Library and the Louisiana State Library in Baton Rouge. Remember, in your research, you may find errors but don't dispair. Get a copy of your father and mother's death certificate. It should show who their parents were. I have more places for you to check out, but I have to look them up. Will get back to you on that. My father's parents were Michel Merile Chauvin and Rosa Lea Falgout (the original family name was Falgoust). They were born in Houma, Louisiana. My grandparents ended up in Gueydan where my father was born. My grandfather died in a freak industrial accident and is buried in Gueydan Cemetery. My grandmother and the rest of the family eventually moved to St. Martinville. In order to make a determination as to whether we are related or not, start with Warren's parents and work back from there. My uncle (Dad's brother) did extensive research on our family tree from the very beginning up to and including his siblings but stopped there. We may be related but I have to find a link in the Chauvin line. Leah Chauvin

Michel Marie LeCLERC (b. 1799) & Jeanne Francoise CHAUVIN are the parents of Joseph Marie LeCLERC, born 1822 in Recouvrance-Brest, France. This is in the Northwest coastal area of France - Finistere/Bretagne.

During a recent visit, I obtained only 2 possible additional records for the Chauvin surname. They are both spelled Cauvin and may not be the same name.

Regardless, the Chauvin name does not seem to be common to the Brest, France area and I wondered if you have discovered any additional information since your posting?

In the original posting of this thread, the poster listed many children of the LaFountain/Chauvin union. John B, Francis, Andrew, Baptiste and Antoine I believe. I am interested in Andrew whose birth is listed as 1815 in Canada. I am especially interested in Andrew's spouse and possibly the children they had. I am working from the present back to an Andrew Fontaine born in Canada and married to Hedwidge Menard (Minor). I'm wondering if these two Andrew's might be the same individual.

My Andrew and his wife had a few children in Franklin Co., VT (St. Albans) and eventually settled in RI.

Any help, positive or negative, is most appreciated.

I got this & thought I would share with all.

Hi Paul. i have in my address book two addresses for rootsweb. Chauvin request, and Chauvin bounces. what one should i use for posting to the list?

Of course it is a third chauvin@rootsweb.com.

Bounces are from delayed messages & some admin ones.

Request is used to join or leave the list.

I am checking in as you requested.

I am located in Florida.

My dad, Raymond Daniel Chauvin, was born in Fall River,MA, and was married to Faith Hooper
His Dad, Daniel Emory Chauvin, was born in all River, MA, and was married to Eva Fregeau
His Dad, Emery Chauvin, was born somewhere in Canada and was married to Emma Lamothe
His Dad, Benjamin Chauvin, was born in Boucherville, Quebec, and was married to Louise Benard
His Dad, Joseph Chauvin, was born in Boucherville, Quebec, and was married to Therese Lamoureaux
His Dad, Joseph Chauvin, was born in Boucherville, Quebec and was married to Veronique Aubertin
His Dad was Francois Chauvin, married to Magdeleine Blein, but I do not know where he was born.

I have almost no info on any of this and no sources at all to back any of it up except my father's marriage certificate and his death certificate. In fact, the above information was received from folks on the internet who were kind enough to give me info from something called BodMin or some words that sounded like that.

So yes, I guess you could say I am at a brick wall. I speak no French, and I am a newbie, but I am very computer literate and can look up anything in tht way, plus I have access to Heritage Quest through the library.
