JAMES S. CHEADLE was born July 7, 1830 in Mississippi, and moved to the Choctaw Nation with the Chickasaws in 1836.

In 1852 he married SUSAN RIDDLE, the daughter of CAPT. JOHN RIDDLE. Captain RIDDLE was very influential and stood high with his people.

James S. Cheadle was the father of six children, three boys and three girls, namely: SOPHRONIA E., DOUGLAS C., AMOS, ALMEDIA, ELIAS RECOR, and SUSAN CHEADLE. Rector is the only survivor of his faTher's family.

James CHEADLE was Circuit Judge of the Chickasaw Nation one term, and was County Judge of Tobocksy, Choctaw Nation, for several terms. He was also appointed a commissioner on the part of the Choctaws to meet and treat with the Chickasaws on certain occasions of great importance.

The subject of this sketch is highly respected by his people, and especially noted foR his fair and liberal dealings with all he came in contact; therEfore he had many friends. The greater part of his life was devoted to stock rasing and farming. He died October 1, 1876, sincerely and deservedly regretted.
