Hi Ingrid,
I have sent for John's wife's death cert so should have it about 20 Oct. She was Elizabeth Ann Hickey who died at 27 years of age in 1831.
Will post details when I have them. Will keep investigating. When John was born he was registered as 'Churs' but not in death.
Regards,

Jennifer

Hi,
My name is Ingrid. I'm a Richard Cheers and Margaret Fogarty descendant. They are my gggg-grandparents. Then through their son John who married Elizabeth Hickey, then their son Allen who married Lavinia Heaslip, and then their youngest daughter Isabella who married William McNeilly. I am desperately trying to find facts about John Cheer's death as well. It's interesting that there doesn't seem to be a death record for his son John Edward either. I keep speculating that they may have left Australia. Does anyone else have any other speculative ideas. Hope to hear from you.
Thanks,
Ingrid
Hi Grahame,

I am a descendant of Richard Cheers and I am still 'digging up' information. I have accessed lots of information that states that John Cheers (b: 1804 to Richard and Margaret Fogarty)died in 1840 but I cannot find this registration on NSW BDM as I was wanting to buy a copy of his death certificate. Can you help with any information? PS An Edward Cheer who died 1840 (40 yrs of age)is registered but he is not related to our 'John'
Warm regards,
Jennifer Bolton

I am William L. Cheers III. I was never realy wanted by the man. I hold no ill feelings toward him or his true family. I only know that I wasn't responsible, at the age of 10 months, for the fact that it didn't work between my mother and him. I want nothing from anyone. I only desire my own piece of mind in knowing the location of his final resting place.

I am descended from Richard Cheers and Margaret Fogarty, through their son John Cheers and Elizabeth Hickey, through their son Allen Richard Cheers and Lavinia Heaslip, and through their daughter, Jane Cheers who married Thomas Grieves. Their daughter, Mary Ellen married Edward McLeay, and their daughter Vida is my dad's mother.

I have a photo of Jane Cheers and the McLeay family, taken in 1912, which I am more than happy to pass on.

I have collected a fair bit of information on the Cheers over the years, which I am willing to share.

Tarranne

Here's a cousin from the US. According to info from others, your Richard was my gggg-grandfathers Thomas Cheer' brother. Though I need to throughly check into this, but this is what other has listed. And yes I had heard how colorful Richard was. He had a brother, I believe, that was guily of the same crime (that got Richard sent to Australia), but not as lucky. I believe this brother had a date with the noose.
My g-grandmother was Annie (Anna) Cheer. She was born in 1874 in Buffalo, Erie Co., New York. Her father was Charles Cheer of Surrey, Eng. His father was Thomas Cheer of Abingdon, who was the son of Thomas, who was the son of Edward and brother to your Richard.

Sorry Daryl. I'm not familiar with your line. As far as I know, my Cheer' that came from Berkshire, were mainly from Abingdon. My gg-grandfather Charles came to America to fight in the Civil War for the state of New York. After his service was over he went back to England, married Susan Weaver. Then Charles and Susan went back to New York. Their two children William and my g-grandmother Annie were born, apparantly in Buffalo, Erie Co., New York. Then Susan went back to England where she gave birth to Charles (1877), then went back to the US. The family, according to census, lived in Ohio, where children Nellie (1883) and Harry (1886) were born, Kansas and then went to Chicago, Illinois. That is where Charles (SR.) died in 1892(?) I have not indepthly researched the Cheer line. Most info I have on my Cheer line before my gg-grandfather was born came from the UK census, some birth records, the LDS site and other Cheer family trees. I will eventually get to researching the line as I don't take others info at face value. If I ever come across a connection to yours I'll try to remember to let you know. BTW, Charles' parents were Thomas Cheer and Margaret Bailey. Charles was, according to census and other tree', from Surrey. Margaret Bailey, I was able to research her line more throughly, was from Soham, Cambridgeshire. Theey married in 1832 in Paddington, London, England.

Cheers Family in Marianna Arkansas

Hello, I'm the great-grandson of an Edward Cheers who was born in 1884 and lived in Marianna, Arkansas. Edward Cheers married Mary McGuffy. Together Ed and Mary had 11 children, seven of whom lived to adulthood. Some of their children include Mary, Edward, Queenida, Frank (my grandfather), Mack, and two more whose names escape me at the moment.

From what I understand, this branch of the Cheers family originated from Tennessee at some point.

If anyone has any information on this family, please let me know.

Cheers,

Frank

Hi, yes, I have information that goes back to the first settler Richard Cheers who arrived in the second fleet. There is also information included that traces much of the cheers family up to present time here in Oz. It was found through Noel Cheer of New Zealand who has an extensive website about the family. I have updated him with my particular family's info but am happy to send you what I have if you provide a postal address as I am not too cleaver at the email 'thing'! I think some of Richard's rels may have travelled to US. Do you have any info dating back to the 1700's that might be useful? Best wishes
Jennifer

The other info is from a lady who has a comprehensive detail of Richard's life etc. I am not too cleaver at emailing things. Would you like me to copy it and perhaps post it to you?
Jennifer

Hi,
My Dad was Gregory George Hastings Cheers b 6th May 1923, his Dad was George Hastings Cheers b 27th April 1867. George's Dad was Adolphus Brompton Cheers b 28th October 1844. Adolphus' Dad was James Cheers b. 18th November 1819.
James' Dad was Richard Cheers and his Mum was Jane Anne Smith (4th wife of Richard). I 'think' this is how it goes! Have based my research on the findings of Noel Cheer and his info in his website. If you would like to email me direct my address is prestige@idx.com.au.
I recently met a real estate agent with the surname of Cheers. She has the distinct likeness of my aunt but is from a slightly different branch of the tree. Fascinating!
A copy of the photo and any info you have would be much appreciated.
I also have further information but it is in printed form. Would you like me to post it to you?
Jennifer

This is an extract from a 1967 letter from Eva Cheer daughter of Frank Cheer to my father's aunt Miss Vera Cheer Roberts:
"Grandfather John Cheer was born Abington, Berkshire. His mother and two sisters died from slow fever when he was a young boy. His grandmother Knight brought him to Northampton. They were milk people....
They lived at Weston Favel, Northampton, before moving to Ecton...
Grandmother was Sarah Ann Clarke of The Trumpet Inn, Weston Favel, Northampton."

Does this ring any bells? - Thanks
