Elaine....doing the family tree and have just joined Ancestry. My great great grandmother was Matilda Cheese, born around 1850 in Wolverton, Staffordshire. She married Thomas Parker and their daughter Elizabeth Parker married my great grandfather, Fred Fennell. If these names connect with your tree, please contact me.

my nan`s maiden name was cheese, she was born in cardiff, but they were originally from malvern. i`m doing my family tree at present, and came across something interesting re: the surname cheese, it seems that john cleese`s father had changed there surname from cheese to cleese. this was because he was fed up of having the mick taken out of him. i think john cleese is actually in my line, but it seems my great great grandfather married 3 times, and there`s over 20 children between them, some are regarded as half siblings, anyway as far as i`m concerned, i`m related to john cleese, that`s my claim to fame and i`m sticking to it. I always wondered where i got my nutty streak from, and now i know. I think cheese is a much more interesting name than cleese. I think he should change back.
Hi all,

Looking for information about some Cheese ancestors...

SARAH CHEESE
Christened: 17 July 1795 - Saint Matthew, Bethnal Green, London

She married JAMES GODIER (1793-1850) and they had at least one son, John Franklin Godier, who emigrated to Australia.

Sarah's parents are reported as JAMES CHEESE and ELIZABETH.

I have a lot of information on the Godier line, but virtually nothing on the Cheese line, other than what I've posted here. I would really love to hear from anyone who can help me!

Cheers,

Phil

Doreen J Gillam born 1945 Cardiff, Wales.

I've started my fiance's family tree.
Alfred Harry John Gillam Married to Dorothy Ethel Cheese in 1940. 1942 saw the birth of their 1st child a girl called Carol Anne born in Bodmin, Cornwall, then in 1945 came the birth of Vera Susan in Croydon (my fiance's late mother) then after Vera came the birth of a third child, a son named John. Doris Ethel Gillam nee Cheese died while her children were still young. Alfred remarried Mary Smith and had a daughter Wendy. However while trying to find the births of these children I came across another daughter, by the of Doreen J Gillam born in Cardiff Wales in 1945 and the mothers maiden name was down as CHEESE. It may be a coincidence but what are the odds of that, after all I've not come across many GILLAM & CHEESE dishes on my searches. John the brother and Wendy the half sister vaguely remember someone years ago mentioning another relative but are unsure who it meant.
I've searched for a death recorded for Doreen but have been unable to find one, so perhaps she was adopted for some reason. CAN ANYONE HELP? DOES ANYONE KNOW HER? OR OF HER?

HELP!!!!!

Hello, Catherine !

You to me, 14 May 2001 13:53
> > Ayscough enters the picture via
> > marriage into the Cheese line.

So - erm - are you seeking AYSCOUGH or CHEESE ?

> > ...hard to search for
> > a Cheese on the internet Regards

Sounds like CHEESE (hard cheese ? Sorry...)

I replied to you on 14 May 2001 14:45, but nothing worth quoting here.

I happened to bump into this correspondence, and am reminded that I have in my possession a (third carbon) typed copy of "Aunt Mary's Book", in which said Aunt Mary and others recorded various happenings in the POWELL and associated families, from about 1800 (from memory) to 1931. I have managed to scan in the clearer part of this (from 1879 onwards), and here are the CHEESE entries - there is no mention of your AYSCOUGH. Obviously "Aunt Mary" missed the births of Albert and G.O. and possibly others as well....

--------------[ Start ]-------------
1879 March 8th	The Rev. Albert Cheese presented to the living of New Bilton
1880 June 27th	Bertha Frances dau of the Rev. A. & Emily Cheese b: at Bilton.
1883 June 9th	William Gerard son of Rev. Albert & Emily Cheese b: at West Bilton.
1895 Ap. 23	Albert Cheese died at Bournemouth aged 65.
Mrs. Cheese removed to Hilmorton Rd. Rugby.
1908 April 23 Albert Cheese married Ethel M.Waterfield.
1912 Oct. 7	Emily Cheese died.
1913 April 23	George Owen Cheese married Mabel B. Larder.
--------------[ End ]-------------

Regards

Robin
Since posting my message, I have learned that Mildred Ayscough married Albert Cheese, sone of Rev. James Albert and Eleanor Powell Cheese, in 1927. Since Albert was 60 at the time of the marriage, there may have been no children, but I would be grateful indeed to hear from anyone with information.
