Thank you for the information. If the Mary you mention only married the once then I guess I will have to discount her. I think the solution to my research lies with identifying where the Kentish town of Stapely quoted in a census is actually located.

Kind regards David Mew

The Samuel Cheeseman that you mentioned in Stalisfield, Kent, England who is the father of John and Mary Cheeseman is my 4x Great Grandfather. John Cheeseman was my 3x Great Grandfather. He married Lucy Harris on 16 Oct 1798 in St. Mary's Church, Stalisfield, Kent, England and together they had 8 children. Mary Cheeseman, his elder sister, was born about 1799 in Stalisfield and married a Robert Cheeseman on 25 Dec 1823 at St. Mary's Church, Stalisfield, Kent, England.

Samuel Cheeseman died in Nov 1831 in Leysdown, Kent and was buried on 13 Nov 1831 at St. Clement's Church Cemetery, Leysdown, Isle of Sheppey, Kent, England. Lucy Harris Cheeseman died in Oct 1842 in Leysdown and was buried in St. Clement's Church Cemetery on 20 Oct 1842.

Not sure if any of this matches what you have or are looking for. Let me know.

Hello Barbara

I have just found your query about a John Cheeseman b1817 in Staples Kent. I see from your tree that you have managed to track back through a Samuel Cheesman b1796 in Pirbright.

I am trying to find a Mary Cheesman born about 1799 two census shows her as coming from Stapely and Lenham respectively (both in Kent). I can't find a Stapely and thought your Staples might be a lead.

My best link so far is to a Mary Cheesman born in Stalisfield in Kent which is only a few miles from Lenham and with a Samuel as her father and also a brother John christened 20 Dec 1818.

Is this your Samuel and John?

Have you managed to locate where your Staples is on a map?

Any help would be most welcome.

Kind regards David Mew

Nathan Cheesman m. Rebecca Ford 1799 NJ

I'm seeking both sets of parents as well as actual birth dates. They were married in St. Michael's Church, Trenton, in March of 1799. Their children, at least the ones I know of, were Deborah and Thomas.

I found 1860 NJ census records that make it appear that Rebecca was in Clayton Township, Gloucester County, and a record that shows Nathan in Franklin Township, Gloucester County. I realize they're very close to one another, but it still seems a little odd! I think there are just several Nathan Cheesmans out there, and since those census records didn't include dates of birth it makes it hard to tell if you have the right one.

If you have any info on Nathan or Rebecca I'd really appreciate it!

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner. There were several George Cheesman's living in the area of Tunbridge. Some were even related as nephews and cousins; seems to be a popular name. My particular George originally came from Brighton and seemed to have moved north because Tunbridge was a popular area for the wealthy. There is a wonderful historical library in Lewes and also one in Brighton. Perhaps if you live in country you might find some information there. Or posibbly you can contact them via e-mail. Sorry I don't have phone numbers or e-mail addresses, but they must be listed in the BT Directory. Happy hunting. Vicki

I have a George Cheesman in my tree that's been a big dead end for me. His son Henry Cheesman was born in 1851 in Ticehurst, Sussex, England. I got the name of his father from his marriage certificate. But that's it, I have no other mention of him anywhere. I know that Ticehurst is quite close to Tunbrige Wells. Perhaps maybe you have some information about the children of the George Cheesman listed in this post.
I havent had much luck with this but will keep trying!
I have checked on all my Cheesman books but only found one who comes close."The Cheesman Dossier" by David Cheesman cites a Joseph Cheeseman, b between 1525 and 1847, probably in NJ. Enlisted in Company K, 6th NJ Inf 9 Aug 1861, as Private/Sergeant. Joseph was wounded, and disch 27 Apr 1863 at a Convalescent Camp in Virginia. His wife, Rachel P Cheeseman, applied for a widow's pension 14 Jan 1863, and was awarded Widow's Pension cert number 375,752, NJ.

One has to question how he died in April and she applied as a widow in January??? This woman seems too old to be your Rachel.
I did find Joseph in the 1860 census of NJ, age 18, with mother, Mary age 43, and brothers Thomas, 19; Richard, 14; William, 7; and sister Martha, 19.

Sorry I didnt find more but will keep you in mind if I do!
Yep, Jimmy is my cousin. I discovered him in comparing my brother's DNA results in various databases. Sounds like Jimmy and you have similar information with regards to Thomas C.

When family group 33 of the Parker project was formed, I had the admin put a note on there saying I'd pay for the DNA testing of any male descendant of Samuel and Bathsheba (that wasn't from Thomas C's line). No takers yet.

I can send you Jimmy's email if you don't have it and if your husband wants to get DNA tested at Family Tree DNA and join the project, I'm sure he'll test into our group. If you decide to do this, give me a heads up and I can contact the admin for a discount on the test.

Susan-- is your cousin Jimmy Parker??

Years ago I paid a woman in NJ to research, with no luck in proving that Samuel and Bathsheba were his parents. She felt all my circumstantial proof was correct and i was right but could never find a record of his birth or baptism. A relative (distant cousin) had a family record history saying number of sons (think it was 8- haven't worked on this for years) but that Elderidge was (I BELIEVE the last son then my husband and I traveled and I have a good paper trail of Thomas C and I believe that he and his 1/2 brother's middle initial "C" is for Cheesman--and Thomas C lived near his Mother Bathsheba and Isabella and Lucetta and on Land records etc. The youngest son, Eldridge was not born yet when this record was written, so Thomas fir right in at the right age to be their son. I sent my info and surmisings "proof" to Jimmy.Must write and see if he has any additional info.

My MIL lived to be 96 and I have picture of Jonathan, son of Thoams C and Nancy. Would love to have one of Thomas.
Nadine

I found a cousin who is also descended from Thomas C and he and my brother formed Parker Group 33 in the Family Tree DNA Parker Surname project. What I need is a descendant of Samuel and Bathsheba's that is from one of their other sons. That's going to be the only way to prove their relationship. My cousin is LDS and has been a family historian his whole life and if he can't prove definitively their relationship, I gotta believe there just isn't a paper trail.

After all these years you have probably found the info you want. However, in the 1958 Harrison AR newspaper there is a Burton Clay Cheesman. His wife, Carrie, pregnant with her fourth child, was shot and killed in her kitchen. Burton claimed to have accidentally shot her while cleaning his hunting rifle. Then he shot himself in the shoulder because he was upset over shooting her. A few days later the paper shows that he was indited for her murder. I don't know if this is your Burton or not. He would have been living in Newton Co at that time. Vickie

Hi!

I'm looking for any direct male descendant of the Samuel Parker that married Bathsheba Cheesman. I'm a descendant of Thomas C Parker, who we believe was one of their children, but are unable to find documentation of that. I have an LDS cousin that is a family historian and he has lots of circumstantial evidence that Thomas is their son. I'm hoping to have a male descendant of one of the other male siblings take a DNA test so that we can really know. Do you know of such a male descendant who would be willing to take a test? I'm sorry I've asked this before.
