Saw your post about living relatives of Elias Chelf. I am Cynthia Lynn Chelf Hodges. I currently live in California, but I am from Norfolk, VA. My sister, Christine Chelf Garrett, lives in Newport News, VA. My dad, Harris Winston Chelf, lives in VA Beach. My brother, Winston Presly Chelf, lives in Anchorage, Alaska. I know of many other Chelf relatives in VA, KY, TX etc. I found around 300 Chelf's on Facebook and have connected with most of them. There is a Chelf reunion every September in Texas, and my branch of Chelf's is planning a Chelf reunion in VA this May or June. Email me at hodgesmba@aol.com

I am a direct descendent of Elias. There were two Elias Chelf's, one a Sr. and one a Jr. I have a brother and a sister, and my father still lives in Virginia. First cousins of my father's also live in Virginia. I have a fair amount of history, and my father's first cousin living in Salem, VA., has LOTS more. I am also on Facebook and have found and linked over 200 Chelf's there. You can contact me directly at hodgesmba@aol.com, or through FB at Cynthia Chelf Hodges.
Hope to hear from you soon.

I am researching the Chelf family. My husband is descended from Simeon Dickens Chelf whse father was Franklin E. Chelf descended from William M. Chelf who was descended from Elias Chelf.
I keep seeing that Elias Chelf was born in 1761 but his parents didn't married until 1764. It is possible that he was actually born after 1764.
Valerie

I have a Barbara Yager b 7 Sep 1730 in Spotsylvania Co Va. She marr an unknown Chelf. I realize this is a little earlier time frame than yours but there may be a connection. He could be the father of your Elias.
Barbara was the dau ofAdam Yager Sr. & Susan Kobir. Barbara was also marr to Peter Clore in 1747. So Chelf must have been her 2nd husband.
My g-grandfather married alice w. chelf 3/2/1881 in bradfordsville, ky. She was born 3/18/1857 and died 5/14/1887 in Marion Co. Ky. In the 1880 census she was with her parents, John and Hannah, and listed as a school teacher. I have a copy of the "In memory of" card for her.

You may want to look at JELF as a spelling variant. My line apparently change the spelling to JELF and they came to IN from KY.(Woodford Co. area). The change took place apparently between Phillip CHELF and his son Isaac JELF. His brothers and sisters stayed as Chelf.
