My g grandfather was Alfred James Chennells b 1866 Red Lion Square London. I think I have traced his line back to George b 1772 in Little Gaddesden Herts. George married Rebecca Taylor in 1797. Cannot find George's parents anywhere. Any ideas? Any help very welcome!

Brenda

Hi. I am the granddaughter of William Charles Chenhall, DOB unknown, parents were Elajah Chenhall and Agnus Edith Chenhall (nee Gardiner). William married my grandmother in 1912 at Bendigo and only known siblings were Mavis and possibly Lorna.
I have no other information and look forward the possibility of finding some other family members.

Hi Frank, To tell the truth I havn't done a lot to my family tree research recently, but here's what I remember. I have two Williams one 1768 - 1829 married to Amelia, he was the only surviving son of William 1734 - 1801 and Hester or Ester. They all hailed from Chennells farm, Wheathampstead, Hertfordshire.
I'm sure we're connected somewhere along the way though as I have Adam and Hannah on a list I was given a while ago. I havn't managed to make a direct connection to them yet though. I live in London England. Ironicly my grandfather nearly moved out to Canada as a young man, and went over to start a ranch but my Nan didn't want to go so he came back. His son, my uncle made the trip permanently and lived near Toronto for 30 odd years. If you'd like to email me direct it's kate.geale@virgin.net I'll dig out my research and have another look. Kate

Hi, I am not sure if I am related to the Ockley Chennells at all. Ockley is very close to the area in which my ancestors lived, so it could be that they are related further back than I have been able to find so far. I will keep looking at see what I come up with!

Kate

Hi,
Just saw your post.
My husbands ancestors Thomas Whitborne Chennell and his wife Jane Ede came to the United States in late 1800s after spending several years in Canada. They were originally from Ockley in Surrey. He traveled to Australia, the States and Canada before returning to England and marrying Jane Ede and immigrating to Canada. He had several siblings. They were orphaned young. My mother in law told me some story about Whitborne or Whitbourne being from his mother's side of the family. Are you possibly related to him?

Sally

Hi Jan. My name is Kelly Kuchel. I am also a descendant of Thomas Chenhall. His son Samuel is my Great Great Grandfather.
Yesterday I decided to do a family tree and I managed to trace my line back as far as William Chenhale of Cornwall England who was born in 1753. I became interested in how the name changed from Chenhale to Chenhall so I Googled it and found your post.
So far all I've been able to find is names. No stories or photos or anything else interesting. You have obviously been researching a lot longer than me. I see that you posted this in 1999, so hopefully you have found out more than I have.
I would love to have any information you have. Especially any ancestry predating William Chenhale and Mary Cocking, and any stories, etc.
My email address is traceandkel@gmail.com
Look forward to hearing from you.
Kel.

I have a Thomas and Sarah Green in 1881 census living in Worsbrough, Yorks. (Barnsley Dist). Thomas and Sarah are Chennell in all future census' and their children seem to have been registered under variants of Chennel, Chennells, Chenel etc. Sarah was Ibeson maiden name. I know there is actually a Green connection somewhere and am intrigued by this change of name. Can anyone shed any light on the family or name. Their daughter Sarah married a Richard Rossell sometimes spelt Russell, whose daughter Elizabeth Rossell married a Gedge. This is the line I am researching.

my grandmother (first name unknown) Isabelle Channell was born in Canada and had a brother who lived in Portland. (I don't know which state). I think she was born 1875/77, married to (first name unknown) Leonard Pepler, had 2 children, Rae Adele Pepler b 1918, Montreal, Quebec and Robert Ian Pepler 1919/21. Is this person related to your James W. Chennell?
