Pauline Chernoff (nee Savinkoff)

Obituary taken from Kamsack Times, dated September 6, 2007.
Funeral services for Pauline Chernoff (nee Savinkoff) 98, of Kamsack, who passed away Saturday, August 25 in the Kamsack Hospital, were held on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at the Chapel of E. Andrychuk Funeral Home Ltd. with Keith Tarasoff officiating. Interment was in the Riverview Cemetery.
Pauline was born on July 6, 1909 in the Village of Petrovka to Wassil and Elizabeth Savinkoff, the second of seven daughters and one son. She was educated at McGillivary School. On June 20, 1932 she married Mike Chernoff and they moved to a farm near Spasovka Village north-east of Veregin. She enjoyed gardening, both vegetable and flower, and as a homemaker was an accomplished spinner of wool, knitter and seamstress. She loved the Fall season and helped at harvest time by picking up grain from the combine with tractor and wagon.
Pauline was a very giving person, always friendly to all, and very emotional. All who knew her were aware of her heart of gold and welcoming smile.
Pauline was predeceased by her parents, her husband Mike, brother Willie Savinkoff, sisters Florence Rezansoff, Annette Rezansoff, Betty Rezansoff, Nellie Horkoff, and one great-grandchild. She is survived by her son Fred (Norma)Chernoff, son Rodger Chernoff, sister Lindie (Bill) Dewores, sister Lorie (Gerry) Evans, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Death leaves a heartache no one can heal.
Love leaves a memory no one can steal.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Dereck Wolkowski of E. Andrychuk Funeral Home Ltd.
Re: Chernoff Family Tree

Joan,

My name is Bev Chernoff and I am married to Carroll Allen Chernoff. My husband's father is Nicholas Chernoff and he is from the Chernoff and Pettroff Family from Canada. The family originated from Russia and left Russia with the assistance of Tolstoy when the family refused to fight in the war. They migrated to Canada as Ducabores (sp.???) There are still family farms in Canada.

I know my husband and his half brother went to a family reunion in Canada several years ago. At that reunion they met many family members. Maybe you were part of that group.

My son did a 10th grade History report on his father's family and talked about the family tree and the family traveling to Canada from Russia.

My brother-in-law has done a family tree that traces that family back many years. I think he even had it on a web site.

If this has been of assistance to you I am glad. Feel free to write me back. My family lives in Oakland, CA and I work for the school district in Fremont, CA.

Bev Chernoff

Hi Elena: I believe you emailed me in error, you sent it to me instead of Beverly Wistosky. My maiden name is also Chernoff, maybe, that's where the error was. I wish some of your relatives rang a bell with me but they don't, sorry. My great-grandfathers' name was William(Wasyl) Chernoff , he and his family emmigrated to Veregin, Saskatchewan, Canada, in 1899 on the SS Lake Huron. One son, Edward William, eventually moved to San Jose, CA, and the other son, Timothy William(my grandfather), stayed on the farm in Canada. Other brothers and sisters were: Lukeria, Anastasia, Anna, and Alexay. I don't believe were related though. Oh well, nice talking with you. If any of these names sound familiar, please do not hesitate to email me back.

Regards... Joan

Hi Beverly: Read your message...unfortunately those Chernoff names don't ring a bell. My relatives came from the Tflisi, Georgia area of Russia. My grandfather and great-grandfather emmigrated to the Veregin, Runnymede,Sask,Canada area around the late 1800's or early 1900's, they're names were Wasyl and Timothy Wasyl Chernoff. Do these names ring any bells. Doing a family tree and have run into blanks as my dad is the last one left of this family of 9 children and can't remember much. My grandmother's maiden name was a Chursinoff.

Hello, fellow Chernoff's.I'm trying to do a family tree and am finding it a little difficult. My grandfather and great-grand father migrated from the area of Tombovka or Tblisi, Georgia, Russia in the the early 1900's by boat, to the area of Kamsack & Veregin, Sask - doukhabor area.I'm told that my grandfather had 1 or 2 stepbrothers(his mother remarried after being widowed and the husband had 1 or 2 sons from his first marriage.) Apparently these 2 stepbrothers migrated to California and my grandfather decided to stay behind and farm the land.My dad is 76 years old and his name is Allan - the youngest of 9 children and the only surviving one left. He wasn't told alot about his family when he was young and what he can remember is very little. I'm looking for family information that someone can help me with. My grandfathers' name was Timothy W. Chernoff and I find out my great-grandfathers' name was Wasyl Chernoff. If any fellow Chernoff's out there can help please e-mail me any information you might have.

Regards, Joan
