Hello ,
I too am searching for the Chesser history . I have gone as far as Abraham who was born in Noord - Holland Amsterdam . He married Amanda Foster who was born in Ireland They were married in the late 1700s .
Her father was Thomas Natalis Foster II b: ABT 1725 in Essex Co Virginia died circa 1764 in Spotsylvania Cty.
Her mother was Dorothy Riona Burgh b: Sept 5 1731 in Ireland . They( Abraham & Amanda) only have one son listed as Isreal Chesser .
Amanda's siblings were :
1 Thomas Eavan Foster B ABT 1748
2 Dudley Adam Foster b ABT 1756
3 Tara Valentine Burgh 1762
Her father was married prior to Dorothy Gatewood B ABT 1726 in Va .The daughter of Dorthy Dudley & Henry Gatewood. She died after 1784 in Spotsylvania Cty Va.
They were divorced and Dorothy Amanda's mother was his second wife .
The Chesser early history goes back to Anglo - Saxon culture of Britain . Some went to England others to Ireland .Medieval scribes and Churches recorded names as they sounded resulting in multiple variations of spelling .
My thought was maybe Abraham moved to Ireland where he met Amanda? Just a thought . Maybe onto Virginia near her family later ? Will keep you informed of anything I find . Please let me know what if anything you find . Thanks Yvonne
Hi Barbara, I have Matthew W Chessor marrying Amanda in 1858 and then marrying Mary E Wolf on August 5, 1864. So since William was born in 1860 I am assuming he is Amanda's son unless Matthew and Mary had an illegitimate child before getting married? The rest of his children were born after William and Mary got married. William is my great great grandfather but that is all I have on them. I am trying to find more relatives beyond Matthew but I've come up emptyhanded so far.

Looking for information on James A Chesser born 4 July 1856 in "Four Site County Missouri"(source death certificate)

There is no such county but there is a "Forsyth" in Taney County Missouri.

Any help would sure be appreciated.

(I have wondered if James T chesser from the John B Chesser family (1860, 1870 1880 census from Benton County, Missouri) is my James. The ages of the 1860 and 1870 are right on with his birthdate. The 1860 census was done with James age 3 (June 21, 1860) and 1870 census when James was 14 (July 21, 1860)

She was the daughter of Israel and Elizabeth (Stanley) Chesser, who moved from Pennsylvania to Vinton Co., OH around 1840. They were married in Greene Co. PA Dec 26, 1833. Anna was the sister of my G-G Grandfather, John Chesser. I have Anna's first husband as Norman McKibbon, who died in 1863 at Gettysburg.
When I read your post I thought we had a match. As far as I know, my earliest Illinois connection was John Franklin Chesser who died in Mattoon, Illinois in 1903. He was born in Shelby Co. Indiana in 1862. A wife Ida May Cobb was born in Coles, IL in 1874 and died in Arcola, Douglas, IL in 1969. They were parents of Hazel Lodema Chesser b. 1897 Mattoon d. 1989 Mattoon and William Olaf Chesser b.1899 Mattoon d. 1987 CA. John F. may have divorced and remarried, but I have no reason to think that. The parents of John Franklin Chesser were William H. Chesser and Margaret Jane Clark both born Shelby Co. Indiana.
I believe a Chesher/Chesser with a Tennessee connection married a Ryman/Reimann, but that is not my line. Good luck.

Searching for information on Anna Chesser (have found 3 different spellings Chesser - Cheaser - Cheser) They were in the 1880 Census in MO. She would have been born about 1843. William P Sharp was her 2nd marriage.

Most CHESSER/CHESHER/CHESHIREs and at least 25 other spellings I run into are not related to our Fauquier,VA (1795) to Harrison, VA (until 1813) to Warren,OH (until 1835) to Shelby, IN (from 1835 to present) line. Is there anyone with these roots or Chesser families before 1800 in New Jersey or New York?

I have only met my dad, William Edgar Chesser II, and my grandfather William Edgar Chesser I. I would really like to get some insight to see exactly where I fall in/on the family tree. my father said he attended a family reunion consisting of him, his father, and his uncle Frank Chesser and his children on Chesser Island.. I have also been told that Chesser is related to Sullivan through the bloodlines... I'm not 100% sure though

Re: Chesser island

Chesser's Island has the old home of Tom Chesser on it that has been turned into a museum. I believe it is on the Folkston, Ga. side of the swamp. my grandmother was born on billy's island, which is farther into the swamp than chesser's island. her mother died. her father took her to live with her uncle tom chesser on chesser's island. when my grandmother's father remarried, he picked up my grandmother and they settled on cowhouse island. cowhouse island, i am told was named this because that's where the indians used to keep their cows :) after tom chesser died, his home was sold to the park and turned into a museum. i believe the people who moved into the swamp went there to avoid fighting in the war. it was originally occupied by the creek ? indians, i believe...there was an indian named "billy bowlegs" that lived out there. at some point some of the indians killed an entire family which made the other inhabitants of the swamp kick out the indians, who went farther south into florida. THIS IS HOW THE STORY WAS CONVEYED TO ME AND I HAVE NO IDEA IF ALL THIS IS CORRECT. i am also told that my grandmother worked at the museum telling swamp stories. Her name was Georgie vilee...her mother was Mattie Lee Chesser. My grandmother married Jessie Whiddon, who was working for a company that logged trees down the river at the time he met my grandmother. They settled in Waycross where my father and his brothers and sisters were born.my dad's name is clinton Allen "Ken" Whiddon. He's a retired football and wrestling coach and was inducted into the National Wrestling Coach's Hall of Fame. if anyone has anything to add or take away from this info, please do :) Lella (Whiddon) Deraney. By the way, my tree is public and is "The Deraney and Whiddon Family Tree"
