Surnames: Chew
1066 seems correct, with a knight of that name originating from the Normandy village of Chieux coming ashore with William the Conqueror to fight, and win, the battle of Hastings. Subsequent settlement around the West Country in Chew Magna, Chew Major etc seems to have historical foundation as well. I have a picture of the family coat of arms, but the date of its grant is not known.
