Thomas John Chiado, Jr. (January 22, 1920-February 6, 2003) beloved husband, father and grandfather, and a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, February 6, 2003, unexpectedly after a brief illness. He is survived by his daughter, Annette and husband, Martin Barker; grandchildren, Francine Barker, Thomas Barker and Madeline Barker; sisters, Angela Marie Chiado SC, and Angela Chiado Holmberg and husband, Henry (Bud) Holmberg; sister-in-law, Sue Chiado; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Irene Tagliaferro Chiado; parents, Thomas and Marguerite Chiado; granddaughter, Christine Patricia Barker; and brothers, John Paul and Paul Steven Chiado. Thomas graduated from St Marys High School in 1938 and Western Business College in 1940. He served as a Captain of the US Army Air Corps during WWII. Irene and Tom were married in Marianna, FL during his tour of duty. After the war, they returned to Albuquerque where he was a partner with his brother-in-law, Tony Tagliaferro, in the Broadway Food Market. In 1950, he joined Sandia Corporation, retiring after 32 years of service as a supervisor in the Department of Security. Tom and Irene were founding members of Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elks Club (BPOE). Tom was an avid fisherman, sharing his passion for the sport with his grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. Tom was a proud American, always current and knowledgeable about his country. Thomas is remembered by his family and many friends as a gentle, compassionate and loving man. His great sense of humor and strength sustained his family through many happy and difficult times. He will be dearly missed by all. Rosary will be recited Sunday, February 9, 2003, at 7:30 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Monday, February 10, 2003, at 8:30 a.m., at Our Lady of the Annunciation Church, 2532 Vermont NE. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be John P. Chiado Jr., Joe T. Chiado, Patrick S. Chiado, Frank W. Chiado, Michael D. Chiado and Fred Wilson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Clark Haskins, Fred Gibbs, Brett McNeil, Tony Tagliaferro Jr., Darrell Pearce, Tom T. Chiado, Rick Brooks, Hank Holmberg Jr., and Russell Morris.
