Suzanne
a year has passed since you posted your message regarding the Simmonette family. I know you emailed myself details about Pellgreen and his family back the way. My computer crashed and I lost my file that you very kindly sent me.
if you could be kind enough to send me this info I would be very grateful to you. As I stated before to you that you impressed me with finding Pellgreen's father/mother etc. Did you ever find origins.
many thanks James Simmonette email js7@jimmyjohnstoneacademy.com

Hi James,
thanks for the reply. Nice to know there is someone else out there who is related to the Simonetti/Simmonette lines.

I know of Cath too, as she has also made contact with me. I have to point out though that Caths' info re all the Richmond/England side comes directly from me. It is I who did the research on Guiseppe Simonetti & Mary Dale & I have all their family well & truely mapped out now.

I have been studying this line for well over 30yrs & it has been a hard task to trace them all.

If your grandmother was May Agnes (& I know about one May Agnes born in Scotland) - who did she marry?? - or was your father born "out of wedlock" - hence the surname continuation?

Best regards, Suzanne

Suzanne well done if you have traced further back than Pele (as I now call him)personally I stopped tracing my family tree back a few years ago as I didnt have time but thought I would see if any further info was available much of my tracing back was done through old records for which much is now available via the internet which is good
Anyhow my full name is James Anthony Simmonette and my father was Gerard Simmonette so the following is
James Anthony Simmonette
Gerard Simmonette father
May Agnes Simmonette granmother
Robert Simmonette great granfather
Joseph Simmonette great great granfather
Pellegreen Simmonetti g/g/g/ granfather

I have a family tree that is hand written about 6ft in height showing every Simmonette born in Scotland since English Bob came to Uddingston and married Jane Myles along with Bobs brothers and sisters all born in Richmond
For your information Cathybradley21@hotmail.com emailed myself by default I suppose and has written that Pellegreen father was Giuseppi 1769 and mother Mary Dale 1769 if this is the case well done to Catherine
So this is who I am James Anthony Simmonette living on the out skirts of Glasgow hope this is of help to you
many thanks
Hi, thanks for your reply. I have now traced the entire Simonetti/Simmonette family tree back to circa 1769. They did in fact originate from Italy & all the Richmond family descend from one man - & he came from Italy.
I would be interested to know who you are if you would get back in touch with me.
Regards, Suzanne

Hello James Anthony Simmonette. Just read your reply to a thread re Pelligrino Simmonette, and thought I would add a little comment. My family are Simmonette's too and originate from Richmond in Yorkshire, and I too am trying to trace more about them. I have been musing the fact that Your Pelligrino may be related to my William Simmonette? Please get in touch if you think there may be a connection.
Regards, Suzanne.

Dear Sharon,
Yes, I do think I have a lot of Chiara information but I only have it for my line and unfortunately nothing extra. So far I can only go back to the 1870s. I do not have any way to tell if we connect yet or not. Say, I started a list at http://www.familysearch.org for CHIARA. I think it is only me on the list but it is a good way for us to keep in touch about our CHIARA info. You never know maybe we can find out for sure if we are related in any way. If you want just go their and click on collaborate with others. Then enter Chiara when it asks you to find lists. Thank you for the reply. I wish I could help. Maybe someday I can. :o)

Amy

I have a birth certificate from Motta Sant Anastasia. This will be my first viewing of birth /death/ marriage records from Italy. I'm excited.
Yes, Australia is a beautiful place.

Hi, Maria! The name Fichera sounds familiar. I saw it in my notes somewhere. I'll let you know what I find. Have you tried ROOTS-l, or other genealogy message boards? If not, I'll send you their web pathnames. P.S. It is sometimes helpful to know the ethnic background when searching for names, especially first names. Is your Chiara surname Italian as well as Hispanic? I hear Australia is beautiful. Maybe I'll travel there one day. Bye for now, Diane

Chiara, Louisa

Sorry, Maria! The 1920 Census states that: Inserra, Louis, 36 y.o., b. 1884, imm. 1906, Inserra (Chiara) Louisa, 24 y.o., b. 1896, imm. 1900 at age 4. This would mean she was 17 y.o. at the time of her son Frank's birth (1913). Louis and Louisa (Chiara) Inserra and their family definitely lived in Suffolk County, Boston, MA (I checked my 1920 Soundex notes). Both Louisa (Chiara) Inserra's husband (Louis Inserra), and Louis Inserra's brother, Joseph Inserra, were tailors. Louis and Louisa (Chiara) Inserra's son Edward Inserra was born in 1921. The full name of Louis and Louisa (Chiara) Inserra's son Louis Inserra (Jr.?), is Louis V. Inserra (b. 1919/20?). I received much info. from Edward Inserra's wife, Irene (maiden name?) Inserra. Louis Inserra's brother Joseph Inserra married Miriam (maiden name?) Inserra, but they had no children (I was told). I will try to find out a more detailed name for the ship "S.S. EMS", on which Giuseppe Chiara sailed to the port of New York on 5/18/1898. Among other notes for Chiara's I have the following: Chiara, Vincenzo, 21 y.o. male from Campoforato, Italy, sailed from Naples to New York on the S.S. Hesperia arriving 10/15/1897. He was going to see his uncle Beniardo in Brooklyn, NY, at 189 Elizabeth St. (from my notes from the "Index to Ship's Passenger List" for New York, 6/16/1897 - 6/30/1902. Keep in Touch and Bye for Now!

Diane (Drago) Mimiaga

Chiara surname

Hi, Maria!

I have a Louisa (Chiara) Inserra who was 4 y.o. when she immigrated in 1906. Her parents immigrated in the years: 1900 (Vincent Chiara - 43 y.o.), and 1908 (Theresa Chiara - 51 y.o.). I'm not sure which port they sailed to or from. The 1920 Census states that Louisa (Chiara) Inserra and her husband, Louis Inserra, lived with Louisa (Chiara) Inserra's parents, Vincent Chiara (63 y.o.) and Theresa Chiara (63 y.o.), Louis Inserra's brother, Joseph Inserra (34 y.o., imm. 1908), as well as Louis and Louisa (Chiara) Inserra's children, all of whom were born in Massachusetts: Frank Inserra (7 y.o.), Vincent Inserra (5 y.o.) and Louis Inserra (5 mo. old). Another son, Edward Inserra, was born after 1920. The Chiara's address as stated in the 1920 Census was: 105 Everett St., #23, (possibly Boston), MA. I am in touch with the wife (Irene) of Louis and Louisa (Chiara) Inserra's youngest son, Edward Inserra. If you would like her to contact you, please let me know. I also have a notation for: Giuseppe Chiara, 23 y.o. married male from Catania, Italy, sailing on S.S. E.M.S. from Italy to New York on 5/18/1898, his final destination being New York City. I hope you find your connection, Maria! My other family names are Drago, Dicarlo, Barbagallo, Gemellaro, Martello, Falcone, Coniglione, Ulitsch, Yudis, Wanagas, and Pempe.

Diane (Drago) Mimiaga

Diane,
I am sorry, I know nothing about any of your surnames including Chiara.I have found that the name originated in Sicily only and that one of it's meanings is clear. I also know that my family is the only branch of Chiara's I have in the U.S. unless someone has come to the U.S. in the last 30 years which is quite possible. I still have to work on that one. My Great Grandfather only had one child that had children and that is my Grandfather and only his family came to the U.S. during the time he was alive. I do not know yet of any siblings etc. So I have found that I need to look to Italy to get any information I could use. I am sorry I could not help.

Greatgrandparents

The wife (Irene) of Louisa (Chiara) Inserra's youngest son, Edward (deceased) is very knowledgeable about the Chiara's. She lives in East Boston, MA. Also Vincent and Theresa Chiara are listed immediately after Louis and Louisa Ianacerra's (Inserra) family, and it's possible the two families lived together in the same residence. The Census indicates that Vincent Chiara owned the property, and that Louis Inserra rented it. It was probably a large house, as opposed to an apartment building. They lived at 105 Everett St., #23, Suffolk County, City of Boston, MA. Also, Vincent and Theresa Chiara are listed in the 1920 Census has both being 63 y.o., and having immigrated from Italy in 1900, and 1908, respectively. Louis Inserra's sister, Salvatrice, married my great great uncle, Ignazio Drago. I hope this helps!
Diane Drago Mimiaga

Also try:

http://paginebianche.virgilio.it/pb/home/

You can put in the last name (Cognome), I put in Rome for Comune and Rome for Provincia and it came up with choices under the provinces listed below.

Messina, Novara and Trento. Click on any of these and it will bring up towns listed in the province that has the name listed and you can click on any one of the towns and see who is listed.

Take a chance and write to some. I wrote to the whole listing I found which was quite a few, and from those, I did find relatives. It was worth it. Again, good luck.

The spelling I find on the link below is Simonetti. I cannot find it under your current spelling. Oftern when emigrating, their names were either were changed by the Clerks trying to decipher the name because of accents and not understanding, or families changed their spelling to be different. It may more than likely have been the earlier, like my ancestors.

I have read all the threads of notes and would like to add something. I returned from Sicily the end of November 2001 and met a charming young lady on the plane from Palermo to Rome with the last name of Chiara. She was surprised to find where I had been visiting, because her father was from the town. The town? It was Caltabellotta, Agrigento, Sicily. Her parents still live in Palermo, she works and lives in Rome and comes home every other week to visit her parents. The name is quite common in Sicily. Go to the site: http://paginebianche.virgilio.it/pb/home/ and you may find some names that will ring a bell with your relatives. It wouldn't hurt to write to some (in Italian) to see if there is a connection. That is how I found my relatives and went to visit in November. Good luck!
