Cristoforo, Leonarda & Antoinette found on a Ship Manifest

On board listed as passengers are Cristoforo Chiaro, age 26, Antoinette Chiaro age 1 and Leonarda Lazzarotti (?) age 19. The person they list as their contact person in the US is Sabastian Lazzarotti but his address is unclear. The birthplace and point of origin is listed as Syricusa county, Augusta (town), South Italy. Antoinette's birthplace is blank. ~Chris Veach

Re: Anthony Chiaro in Hamilton Square

I don't think we are related unless it is through Sicily before the 1900's. The one question mark we have is a Vincent Chiaro, bother of Cristoforo who was in Casablanca. We understand he had one child, a girl, and thus the surname did not go on from that line. The earliest Chiaro I know is a Salvatore Chiaro from Augusta, Syricusa, Sicily with a birthdate estimated about 1860 tp 1870. He was my greatgrandfather.

Anthony Chiaro in Hamilton Square

Realize this is a longshot since I barely knew my uncle...He married my Dad's sister, Angelina (Angie) in early 1960's but suffered a massive heart attack and died either in 1965 or 1966 (I was an infant). My Aunt Angie died about nine years later. The historical significance to my family is that it brought my mother and father from Jersey City to Hamilton Square - in fact we later moved into my aunt's house where my parent's still live.

Thanks for any info!

Leonarda Lazzarotti Chiaro's relatives

Uncle Chris talked about some cousins of theirs on Tenth St in So. Philly. He talked about a gruff Uncle they didn't like. I did a little census digging...
In the 1920 census Their is a Sebastine Lazzaroti(indexes incorrectly as Sabastine Lazaroti) who is a bricklayer living at 628 Fernon St (just down and across from the mother house 619 Fernon). Wife Carmine, Frank age 6, Francis 4 and Nardy or Nancy 1. The whole family lists emmigrating from Italy ain 1916 except baby Nardy born in PA. Chiaro's at this time are living at1219 S. Marshall. Too coinincidental...must be a relative.

In the 1930 census a Sabatian Lazzarotti is living at 2318 Tenth St (Yeah Uncle Chris) and is a stone Mason. Lists wife Carmello, children Frank, Alfonso, Leonarda (baby Nardy?), Joseph, Samuel and SabastianJr. They are incorrectly indexed as Sabartian Lozzorte. I am going to search for them present day.
ANY COUSINS WHO SEE THIS- I WOULD LOVE TO GET ALL OF OUR COUSIN'S EMAILS OR AT LEAST PLUG THEM INTO THIS MESSAGE BOARD SO WE CAN COMPILE ANY OTHER FACTS OUT THERE. Email me at cveach0553@kc.rr.com
Chris Veach

Cristophor and Leonarda Chiaro-update

I found them on the 1920 US census misspelled Chiero,Christophe. Parents on one page and children (Antoinette, Samuel, Francis and Sara misspelled with and "h") are on the next page. Again they list year of emmigration as 1911 for the 3 and the address is 1219 South Marshall.
In a 1915 Philadelphia City Directory they list the street address as 706 Fitzwater.
I have really combed through Ellis Island records in 1911 and cannot find them. The plague that the family has doesnot authenticate their arrival nor list a date.
FAMILY- WE NEED TO TALK TO OUR EXISTING RELATIVES AND TRY TO JOG ANYADDITIONAL MEMORIES.
From Chris Veach (aka Sara's Tina)

Chiaro - Christopher and Leanarda

According to the Philadelphia 1930 Census they were living at 619 Fernon Street in Philly. They had 8 children with the youngest two Chris and Peter yet to be born. It lists the year of immigration as 1911 with one child Antoinette (Dunie). This census record has Leonarda name incorrect as it lists her as Eleanor (the parents did not speak english). No luck yet placing them through Ellis Island however more likely than not they emigrated through the Port of Philadelphia but their records are not readily available online.
Chris and Rick Veach
Christine(Tina) Murri Veach daughter of Sara Chiaro Murri b.3/16/19 &d 4/24/86, the fifth child of Christopher and Leonarda(the first Sara#4 died in 1918 who was known as "dead Sara))

Chiaro Updated

Ciao all Chiaros! I got updated info from Uncle Chris. We estmate Cristofaro and Leonarda coming over to America in 1909-1910.Great Grandma Leonarda did give birth to her first born, a girl named Antoinette in Casablanca (I believe}. Definatley North Africa on the way over. Her nickname was Duneay (Due-knee-ay). Then came my grandfather Salvatore (Sam) in May 1912.Then Chichee ( I believe real name Frank), Sarah who die during the influenza plague. Another daughter that was named after her, also named Sarah, Josephine, Vincent, Rita, Joe (Joey),Chris, and Peter. Our family came from the Greek side of Sicily. A town called Augusta near Cerpcusa (?). I 'm not sure how to spell that. I know Cristofaro had a brother Vincent that stayed in Casablanca. Cristofaro and Vincent stayed in contact by writting back and forth for many years. I am going to estimate at least 20 because my grandfather Sam wanted to go see him and it was while he was married he wanted to go and he got married in his 20's, but never did go see him. Uncle Chris doesn't know much of his Uncle Vincent. I don't know of yet if this was his only sibling. Or if in many later years he ever came over. If anyone else has any info it would be greatly appreciated. I hope this can help other Chiaros.

Hello all Chiaro's. I am Lee Ann Chiaro. Granddaughter of Sam (Salvatore) and Lena Chiaro. Daughter of Chris and Ginny Chiaro. My grandfather was second born. My great grandparents were Leonarda and Chris. I believe my great-grandfather's name was Chris maybe Salvatore. Have to double check.I am just starting to compile my family history I do know as there was a daughter born first (I think her name was Leonarda), she was born on the voyage over her. At least that is what I was told years ago. My grandfather's family lived in Philly, Pa than several moved to south Jersey when they got older. As far as I know we have never made a family connection with the Chiaro's that own the pizza shops, we maybe cousins. If so "hello".My grandfather Sam was one of many brothers and sisters, all of which have stayed in the area. To any of my cousin's feel free to contact me. I am trying to put together our family history for future generations. Thank you.
