Ok before we all get mixed up again. Great to note the connections of others, however.
Ref. to Ms. Higginbotham query, yes we are nearly directly connected. However, the others referred to branch off completely.

(2) Wife – Theresa Marguirite Rodriguez – Marriage 24 Jan 1872 in Baton Rouge, East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana

d. Frank Chidester

Reference to the location of Joshua and Theresa burial, according to both sisters, Julia and Ollie Chidester, they were buried in St Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Baton Rouge Louisiana, USA. The location is within the Rodriguez's burial plot. It is at an intersection of two roads and is in about the center of the cemetery near a large above ground stone of the Rodriguez's. They, Ollie and Julia, had some smaller stones placed around Joshua and Teresa grave site itself. Joshua was buried shortly after the 25 Jun 1882, exact date is not known.

That is this side of the pond, it of course goes back but is not at this point in question.
Note change of spelling after David of the last name. Samuel and brother changed it to Chidester from Chichester.
There is at this time no known documentation of marriages of Samuel Chidester, of New Jersey. There have been listed in many researchers articles, books and etc. as his first wife as having been assumed as being one Elizabeth Hannah Ayers. There were either four or five children of this union.
a. Holdridge Chidester
b. Eliphalet Chidester
c. Ephraim Chidester
d. William Jennings Chidester
e. Silas Thomas Chidester
Reason being stated above either children four or five is that the birth date of Silas Thomas has been shown as both 1760 and 1761. That places a question of, was Silas of the first wife or the second.
Now the second wife again there is no known documentation of a marriage to one Mercy Landon. However, there is a document in Mississippi which a son Samuel had recorded with the baptismal of his daughter noting his father as being Samuel and mother as being Mercy. This Samuel was the third child of Samuel and the assumed Mercy. Children of that union were
a. John Peter Chidester
b. Sarah Elizabeth Chidester
c. Samuel Chidester

A lot can be said about earlier research and articles which have been written. However, without some documentation things that are assumed are incorrect. An example of the mess is the Jersey Samuel where one researcher had everyone born in New Haven Connecticut when they were all living in New Jersey. There is no records of the children or the wife being born in New Haven Connecticut that is known at this time.
If additional information is needed please advise.

My ancestor was Holdridge Chidester, born about 1746 in New Jersey. I come down through his son, Samuel Chidester, born 29 May 1789 in New Jersey or Virginia. Samuel married on the 22 October 1812 to Zipporah Goodwin in Virginia. Their son Zadock Chidester was born 22 April 1816 in Virginia.

Zadock married 12 March 1840 to Susannah Tharp. Their son Elliott Chidester was born 02 May 1858 in Iowa and died 26 April 1953 in Tacoma, Washington. I personally knew Elliott, my great grandfather. I have many letters that he received through the years from his family living in Iowa, Nebraska, Okalahoma and Wyoming.

I have much information on these families of which I would love to share and receive info.

Yes that is correct - However, our side does not go through the West Va. or the Va. Ohio group. Accordingly to information, verbally, is that your Grandmother, my Grandfather's sister, had been married more than once.
Also is your last name your married name or maiden name?
Problem is a lot of information was taken from a few sources and what was wrong was repeated over and over again. The fact is what is the source of the information? Unless it is documented it is assumed, and that is the problem.

My Chichester-Chidester-Chedister line leads from the Connecticut/NJ Chidesters to WestVirginia, then Ohio, then Illinois. My grandmother was a Chedister. My father did a lot of research in libraries and genealogy societies in the NJ-Long Island-Connnecticut area and I would be happy to share what he collected if anyone in interested. I haven't worked on my Chidester line for a while so it would take my a bit of digging to figure out where everything stood in terms of the old colonial connections.

I am trying to verify John Chidestor's ancestors. In 1870 he is living in Vinton, Ohio, and married to Susan Beyerly. Their daughter, Sarah Lucretia Chidester, was my great grandmother. The 1870 census says his parents were born in MD, but the 1880 census says they were born in VA. On the 1880 census he is married to Elizabeth, his second wife.

I have pretty much compiled an up to date listing from Samuel Chidester – Mary Shaw – Mississippi forward. Of my father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great, great, grandfather. I have from a Samuel Chidester in New Jersey back to Connecticut, in part documents and some references. I have not yet been able to link Samuel Chidester in New Jersey to Samuel – his son in Mississippi. There is the standing question of who his mother was, as there are no positive documents which have surfaced. I have references in public documents of the connection and who she was. I am still working on all the links in colonial times.

I don't know who Egberts parents were. All I was ever told was that he was from St. Albans West Virginia. I'll try to find out more. I remember him very well. He and my grandmother worked on the ore boats on the Great Lakes as cooks! They were full of stories.

My name is Charles Paul Thurston. Egbert Chidester was my grandfather on my mothers side. She was Oralee Jayne Chidester (Thurston). My Uncle was Robert Paul Chidester. My great grandfather was John C. Chidester. He married Sarah Jane Gossien (Goshen). On their marriage license it showed his name to be Levi C. Chidester. We know he was born in IL and somehow got to AR. We believe his parents were Andrew and Delilah Pennell Chidester. Hi, I am so sorry to hear about Art. We corresponded quite a bit a few years ago when we were both searching our roots. My grandfather, Marion Wallace and your Earnest Wilbur were brothers. I have a photocopy of their whole family with their mother and father, James Edward and Eunice Jane (Elam) Chidester. I have met Rachel quite a few times, She lives in Caney, Kansas. Gracie Garofalo, her sister, did live in Joplin in an assisted living home. I think??? she is still living, but she was an elderly lady back when I was talking to her a lot. A cousin, the daughter of Rosie Mae, who was the baby of James and Eunice came up and she and I and Gracie got together. I do have lots of pics I can send you via email or snail mail. We called Aunt Edna, Aunt Bonnie and her last name was Pendleton, she lived in Alaska and died a few years ago.
Aunt Maxine lived in Washington or Oregon, can't remember.
I sure would like some info from you on all of them.
I know my cousin Rosalinda, Uncle Henry and Aunt Alberta's only child has been dead several years back. Don't know where her daughter is. She might even have had two. I know the one would have been born in 1964.

My brother, Art Chidester died 2-14-2009, but I would like to get any information you may have. From your message I just read, we are related. Yes, James, Marguerite, Gracie, Dale, John Henry, Arthur, Rachel were my aunts. I think only Rachel are now living. The Keziah Mae Stoneking and Ernest Wilbur Chidester were my grandparents. There were some Stonekings in Colorado Springs we visited once in the 50's. Any pictures, letters I would love to have.

Trying to locate ancesters of my grandfather, william F. Chidester. He had stated that he was PA Dutch, B: 1870 in Peach Orchard, IA, Married to Mattie Ratliff. His father was supposedly a William also and his mother was Ellen Lamb.He had 2 brothers Charles (Tuck) and George(Lee).

My research shows that there never was a Peach Orchard IA but right across the border in IL there is a large area called Peach Orchard and although most census show him an being born ia IA the 1930 cen. and 1880 KY, Madrid Bend Fulton Co. show IL as birthplace.

My assumption is that he was b: 1870-72 in IL. his mother was in fact Ellen Lamb b: 1844 in IA.His father was Samuel b:1843 PA. The family name is Chitester.They were married at Jones Co. IA in 1863.Samuel age 27 and Ellen age 24 are listed in Jo Davies Co. IL 1870.
In 1880 they appear to be in Madrid Bend, Fulton Co. KY, Sam'l is listed as Louis b:PA, Ellen, B;IA and 3 sons. William age 8 B: IL, Charles age 6 b:iIA, and George age 2 b:KY, Louis' brother M. Chidester.

I think there father was Joseph B:abt 1808 PA and Mary b:abt 1807 PA and 7 children, one of which is Sam'l age 9 and one is Martin ane 16 (matches 1880 kY). Cannot find any info prior to Joseph.The family name here is Chittester.

His mother I believe is the daughter of Edward and Catherine Lamb of IN both originally from Ireland.

most of this info is assumed and I am hoping that some Chidester, Chitester, Chittester researcher can set me straight. Any help at all, greatly appreciated.

My Grandmother was Sarah Jane Gossien Chidester. She was full blood Cherokee Indian She married Levi when she was 14 years old and he was 35. If this is who you are looking for please contact me. I dont have a lot of info. I lived with My GrandMother when I was a little girl. She died June 4, 1973. Her husband died Nov 1963.

I believe you contacted me once or twice before regarding my grand father William Chidester. I think your Joseph and Samuel may be from an obscure branch of Chidesters that have not been to well documented.
I have (unoffical) a Joseph Chittester b:abt 1808 in PA with a son Joseph b:abt 1849 in IL (1870) fed cen) this Joseph's son was Samuelb:1842 in PA. In 1850 IA cen shows entire family living in IA. in 1870 Samuel married Ellen Lamb in Hanover.Jo Daviess Co.,IL in 1870Th name was spelled Chitester. Ellen Lamb was my ggrandmother.
Ihave it pretty well down but unfortunately can't prove any of it. Hope this sheds light or that you may have info that will help me.

My name is Henry Scott Chiddister . My ancestry also traces back to Henry Chiddister of 1796. My father is Henry Harold Chiddister. His father is Clarence Orland Chiddister Jr. His father was Clarence Orland Chiddister. His father was Thomas Henry Chiddister. His Father was Jerimiah Honley Chiddister. His father is Henry Chiddister of 1796. My grandfather passed away about 18 months ago and among some of the items he'd give me were these names and dates of his ancestors before him. I was just surfing on line and came across this web page. There are quite a few of us in the SW lower Michigan area and NW Indiana area. I had heard that the last name had many variations to the spelling. Just trying to learn more about my ancestors from this limited information my grandfather had given me.
