My great grandfather was John C. Chidester. He married Sarah Jane Gossien (Goshen). On their marriage license it showed his name to be Levi C. Chidester. We know he was born in IL and somehow got to AR. We believe his parents were Andrew and Delilah Pennell Chidester. Hi, I am so sorry to hear about Art. We corresponded quite a bit a few years ago when we were both searching our roots. My grandfather, Marion Wallace and your Earnest Wilbur were brothers. I have a photocopy of their whole family with their mother and father, James Edward and Eunice Jane (Elam) Chidester. I have met Rachel quite a few times, She lives in Caney, Kansas. Gracie Garofalo, her sister, did live in Joplin in an assisted living home. I think??? she is still living, but she was an elderly lady back when I was talking to her a lot. A cousin, the daughter of Rosie Mae, who was the baby of James and Eunice came up and she and I and Gracie got together. I do have lots of pics I can send you via email or snail mail. We called Aunt Edna, Aunt Bonnie and her last name was Pendleton, she lived in Alaska and died a few years ago.
Aunt Maxine lived in Washington or Oregon, can't remember.
I sure would like some info from you on all of them.
I know my cousin Rosalinda, Uncle Henry and Aunt Alberta's only child has been dead several years back. Don't know where her daughter is. She might even have had two. I know the one would have been born in 1964.

My brother, Art Chidester died 2-14-2009, but I would like to get any information you may have. From your message I just read, we are related. Yes, James, Marguerite, Gracie, Dale, John Henry, Arthur, Rachel were my aunts. I think only Rachel are now living. The Keziah Mae Stoneking and Ernest Wilbur Chidester were my grandparents. There were some Stonekings in Colorado Springs we visited once in the 50's. Any pictures, letters I would love to have.

He attended Westminster College and retired from Dravo Corporation after more than 23 years. Bob was an active member of Sunset Hills United Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon, elder, clerk of sessions and a very active member of the Monday Morning Marvels. He was an avid Penguins hockey fan and golfer. Trying to locate ancesters of my grandfather, william F. Chidester. He had stated that he was PA Dutch, B: 1870 in Peach Orchard, IA, Married to Mattie Ratliff. His father was supposedly a William also and his mother was Ellen Lamb.He had 2 brothers Charles (Tuck) and George(Lee).

My research shows that there never was a Peach Orchard IA but right across the border in IL there is a large area called Peach Orchard and although most census show him an being born ia IA the 1930 cen. and 1880 KY, Madrid Bend Fulton Co. show IL as birthplace.

My assumption is that he was b: 1870-72 in IL. his mother was in fact Ellen Lamb b: 1844 in IA.His father was Samuel b:1843 PA. The family name is Chitester.They were married at Jones Co. IA in 1863.Samuel age 27 and Ellen age 24 are listed in Jo Davies Co. IL 1870.
In 1880 they appear to be in Madrid Bend, Fulton Co. KY, Sam'l is listed as Louis b:PA, Ellen, B;IA and 3 sons. William age 8 B: IL, Charles age 6 b:iIA, and George age 2 b:KY, Louis' brother M. Chidester.

I think there father was Joseph B:abt 1808 PA and Mary b:abt 1807 PA and 7 children, one of which is Sam'l age 9 and one is Martin ane 16 (matches 1880 kY). Cannot find any info prior to Joseph.The family name here is Chittester.

His mother I believe is the daughter of Edward and Catherine Lamb of IN both originally from Ireland.

most of this info is assumed and I am hoping that some Chidester, Chitester, Chittester researcher can set me straight. Any help at all, greatly appreciated.

My Grandmother was Sarah Jane Gossien Chidester. She was full blood Cherokee Indian She married Levi when she was 14 years old and he was 35. If this is who you are looking for please contact me. I dont have a lot of info. I lived with My GrandMother when I was a little girl. She died June 4, 1973. Her husband died Nov 1963.

I believe you contacted me once or twice before regarding my grand father William Chidester. I think your Joseph and Samuel may be from an obscure branch of Chidesters that have not been to well documented.
I have (unoffical) a Joseph Chittester b:abt 1808 in PA with a son Joseph b:abt 1849 in IL (1870) fed cen) this Joseph's son was Samuelb:1842 in PA. In 1850 IA cen shows entire family living in IA. in 1870 Samuel married Ellen Lamb in Hanover.Jo Daviess Co.,IL in 1870Th name was spelled Chitester. Ellen Lamb was my ggrandmother.
Ihave it pretty well down but unfortunately can't prove any of it. Hope this sheds light or that you may have info that will help me.

My name is Henry Scott Chiddister . My ancestry also traces back to Henry Chiddister of 1796. My father is Henry Harold Chiddister. His father is Clarence Orland Chiddister Jr. His father was Clarence Orland Chiddister. His father was Thomas Henry Chiddister. His Father was Jerimiah Honley Chiddister. His father is Henry Chiddister of 1796. My grandfather passed away about 18 months ago and among some of the items he'd give me were these names and dates of his ancestors before him. I was just surfing on line and came across this web page. There are quite a few of us in the SW lower Michigan area and NW Indiana area. I had heard that the last name had many variations to the spelling. Just trying to learn more about my ancestors from this limited information my grandfather had given me.

I have this same picture in my old family album, as Isan is the nephew of my great grandfather, Elliott Chidester (1858-1953). Isan T. Chidester (1867-1946) was the son of Samuel Floyd Chidester and Celestia Louvinna Stevenson. Siblings Samuel and Elliott were sons of Zadock Chidester and Susannah Tharp.

My gg-grandfather was Peter Chidester. He was in Cass County Indiana in 1840 through the 1870s. According to the 1850 Cass Co.
census he was born in Virginia about 1817. Very difficult to pick up the trail in Virginia.I am looking hard at Samuel who, in the 1830 Harrison County, Virginia census was 40-50 yrs.old. any help for me out there.

BLAKESBURG - Edmond L. Chedister, a longtime Skagit Valley resident, passed
away on September 25, 2005, at the age of 102.
He was born on December 18, 1902, in Blakesburg, Iowa, the son of Isan T.
and Mellie Hampshire Chedister. He was educated there and on June 23, 1926
he married Myrtle E. Feckley in Ottumwa, Iowa.
Ed looked back fondly on his memories of playing the clarinet in a band in
Iowa. He worked at the Morrell Meat Company in Iowa, before moving to
Burlington in 1952. He has resided in the Skagit Valley since that time. He
was employed by the Skagit Corporation as a payroll accountant.
He is survived by nieces, nephews and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Myrtle on March 1, 1981;
and his brother, Harold.
Memorials may be given to a favorite charity.
Visitation hours at Kern Funeral Home, Mount Vernon, Wash. are Thursday,
September 29, 2005, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Graveside service will be held on Friday, September 30, 2005, 11 a.m. at the
Hawthorne Memorial Park with Reverend Rand O'Donnell officiating.

I am trying to find the death date for Samuel and Henrietta. I traced them to Alexandria, Licking County, Ohio but loose them after 1900.

I have a death date for Samuel; July 10, 1904 in Licking County, Ohio. I show their marriage as being October 3, 1869 Perry County, ILL. Two children were Emma Mitchell born 1864 and George Mitchell born 1859 but these were listed in the census and I believe they belong to John Milligan.

I would love to find Henrietta's actual death and burial information as I am trying to proove her father as being Richard Chidester.

I have lots on the Chidesters to share would love to know more about Samuel.

Paul, I am new to ancestry so I beg your indulgence. My great grandparents were David Allison Chidester and Sarah Josephine Doney. I have the link to David Allison and Sarah Fagley but little on Sarah Fagley. Do you have data on her. Sarah Josephine left David Allison with two of their children one of whom was my grandfather Alfred Ellsworth Chidester. Sarah Josephine married Peter Paul Sheppard a civil war veteran. I have some poems that Sarah wrote and am happy to share them with you if you are interested.

There is a book called world book of chidesters. im not sure how to get a hold of it, or who wrote it but my dad has a copy of it. e-mail me at kaylea1989@hotmail.com he is to be sending me the book so i can do a school project. once i have it ill be happy to see if the info you need is in there, but for now i can tell u we werent common royalty, but we worked with royalty and one of our family members were knighted by king hennry the I. it was his son in law cant remember the name i think it was goffery, but dont quote me on that. but i can get back to you on that. there are more chidesters that live in west virginia, i live in ohio and there are a few in virginia too. if that helps. just let me know if i can help we might be able to put the puzzel together with what i know and what you know.

She had my grandfather, Harry Spencer, March 13,1902 in Branchville,NJ. I believe she died around 1910 or before.I would appreciate any information that anyone might have.

Almost seven years later, I notice the middle part of your post re Schacke/Shockey.

My GG Grandfather was Lewis Schacke (changed it to Shockey also) who married Caroline Webber (Weber) in Quincy, Adams, IL on 5-11-1856. On their marriage license, he is listed as being born in Germany while she was born in IL.

By the 1880 Census, she was listed as Caroline Shockey, widow, living with their son John Shockey (age 22), daughter Lulu Shockey (age 19), and her widowed mother C. Annie Weber (who had previously been listed as Nancy) (age 70).

I know next to nothing about the Schacke/Shockey part of my family tree. I'd be interested to see what you might have.

If anyone has any Chidester histories they would share it would be greatly appreciated.
I have been trying to locate my family history for over 2 years and it seems the records I need were destroyed or do not exist. I need to make some connections. PA Dutch. Iowa and ??? late 1800's and before, Iowa, Arkansas,Texas and possibly Louisana late 1800's to 1930's.

searching for info on William f. chidester, b: 6/12/1870
supposedly in peach orchard IA. my search has found no such place however it may have been IL. He married Martha (maggie, mattie) e. ratliff. they 9 children, Stella died at age 1, George W. b: 7/5/1897 in Red Fork, Deshea Co. Ar D: 1915, Alma, b: 1901 d: 1922, Milton b:1904 in TX and d: 1997 in Paris,TX.,Lela b:1907 in TX, Ruby Louise b: 1910 in TX Mable, b: 1913 in TX William M. b: 1916 in Deshea Co, AR and Julian D. Sr. b:1921 in Paris TX.

The Family lived in Red Fork, Deshea co. AR and in or near Paris and or Clarksville,TX
William had 2 brothers, Lee and Tuck 9one of them was george) and William and one of the brothers traveled down the Miss. River to AR where he met Mattie and they were married on Dec.6 1894 in AR.
William was PA Dutch anhis mothers name was Ella or Ellen Lamb (IA)

Matties father was George Ratliff, and her grand parents were Thomas H and Oma Wood(S)

I am looking for info the ancestors of both.

William may have had family in LA as he visited there a few times.
Mattie was born in AR, maybe around Petit Jean but may have been deshea co.

any info greately appreciated.

I remember hearing about a levi when i was little from my grandma but i dont remember anything. My grandpas name was Gerald Lee Chidester he was born in ohio in 1912 and my mom said that his family was from illinois.

I am a Chidester, most of my imediate family resides here in Indiana. My grandfather is where i got the name, he is part indian, his grandmother was hoiux indian she was from frankfort indiana.He was born in ohio.I do not know much about his family, he died before i was born. I do know he was born in 1912.
