Yes that fits with what I know of Sarah. My ancestor was her sister Maria. I have many contacts with other descendants of the Chidsey's. I will email you and we can exchange family trees. I am still looking for the origins of Samuel's father James.

My gr gr grandmother was Sarah CHIDSEY- Father, Samuel Chidsey and mother, Sarah SHENTON.
Sarah married Edward Francis LAWRANCE on 20 Dec 1860 in Bristol. Her marriage certificate gives her father as Samuel Chidsey Beerhouse Keeper at Shakespeare Inn, Princes St Bristol.
Sorry I don't have any info on Samuel's father.

Hi, Sorry I do not have a Susan in my tree. There is a Susan Rebecca in the 1861 census index born ca 1850 in Bristol.
But I don't have her family details. If I come across her datails I will send them on.

My ancestor Samuel Chidsey was born 8 Jun 1800 in Yatton, he married Sarah Shenton of Nailsea about 1823 place unknown. His father was James Chidsey m. 26 Mar 1792 in Yatton to Newity Coomer. I have some information on the Chidsey line. Does anyone have information on the origins of James Chidsey, it does not seem that he was born in Yatton.

I am looking for anybody that is related to the Chidsey family of Joliet, Will County, Illinois.

John Chidsey came to Joliet in the early 1850's with his brother Isaac. Together they operated one of the first livery stables in Joliet.

John married Ellen J. Feehan in 1865. They had the following children: William H. Chidsey, Isaac P. Chidsey, May Roxie Chidsey, John M. Chidsey, Carrie Ellen Chidsey, and Loretta A. Chidsey.

I don't have any information on Susan Rebecca as all my Chidsey info is for descendents of Deacon John Chedsey of the New Haven Colony, c. 1638 when he came to this country.

The closest I can come on Bristol, England info is a William Chidsey born c. 1815,Bristol, Eng, d. 1893 in the USA who married Sarah A.,Penn.. His parents were George Chidsey and Jane Channon.

My father = Jay Chidsey b. 1928, his parents Veda Miller (need info on her family) and father John, John's father Frank E. CHidsey b 1864 married Fannie Bollen, any info on either of them, mine doesn't go back any further than that. Also, I've seen Chidsey alternately spelled Chidsay if that helps at all?

I certainly do!1 This is very interesting. Almost as much as my Hessian Soldier in Quakertown , Pa. would also put it up there with my Pirate Dick Grinnell :)
I wonder if Don checked the trial transcripts for Rhoda Chidsey? She would have gone to court to have her son named as a heir to the Seymour fortune, unless Mr Seymour acknowledged him from birth. We have an early document listing all the relatives of the Seymours and the author wrote her in it upside down. Strange huh one whole paragraph written upside down. Lists her birth and death info nothing else. I still wonder if she married later in life and she had a different name

That is too bad, that there is no difinitive information about Rhoda. I was wondering if she went to court to have her son officially recognized as a Seymour so he could carry the name? If so there would be court records. It must have been quite a scandal. I wonder if it was in the newspapers? There has to be something some where! I wonder if she ever married? Maybe thats why we cannot find her...she may have a different last name at the time of her death.

Would that be Don Seymour? He is a distant cousin of my husband. I believe he has had a similar problem . There is no conclusive evidence she was ever in Deleware County New York. She is definitly a mystery woman.

I have the marriage cert of my great grandmother.She was born in bristol England 1849and lived in Jamica St bristol.She married my great grandfather Thomas William Tennear in 1871
She died 0n july 19 th in 1881 age 32. Her father's name was
William Chidsey and a Ellen Chidsey was a witness. my grandfather Thomas William Tennear also was 1 year old when she died.Any info would be very nice.

Okay, here is a little more...George was married to Sallie Berrien Chidsey
and their son was James Berrien Chidsey. He was my grandfather.
There is a wonderdful conection to the Berrien family. A county in Georgia
was named for her uncle. But anyway, my mother was Louise Berrien Chidsey
Schroeder who you tried to contact. She passed away two years ago. She also
had no connections to the internet. any more of the sisters, brothers, ect...I
can give you. I do know that one of the relatives was a
priest in New YorK City at an Epscopla Church. The is some
history behind the church. It may be on the National Historical list.
I will try to find out more.

James Berrien Chidsey. My uncle james Berrien Chidsey Jr. and
my father owned it next. It was called
Chidsey and Schroeder. My mother was Louise Berrien Chidsey Schroeder.
She passed away two years ago, which is why there was now response.

Thank you for the clarification. Not sure why mother would not have responded. Interesting that there is a Mr. Bottoms here who is a geneologist. Perhaps we can use his expertise to get to the bottom of the issue of where all of our relatives are at this time. Thank you for the insight. So, in your research, have you any idea if we are related? My gradfather, George Chidsey married Louise Cantrell, and my middle name is Cantrell, and we are still trying to find our relatives from that side also. I am going to one of my wife's family reunions about 60 miles from here tomorrow. They have to rent a school gym for the crowd that shows up each year. Wish that I could latch onto that many Chidseys or Cantrells in this area...

I am wondering about Mister Schroeder, also. When I recieved an email telling me that I had a reply to this message board, imagine my surprise when I came here to see a posting by a man who has the same name as my father; Bob Schroeder. I passed the contents of his message to my family, and am hoping to recieve some correspondence from him. I only hope that my dear sister doesn't think that this is another of my mean distasteful pranks. Til later, Bill Schroeder.

OH, and thank you for the enlightenment, Bob, and if you know of anything else concerning the family of Chidseys, please pass it along, we haven't been in touch with that side of the family except for immediate cousins and would like to know a bit more about them.

Yes, Chidsey is indeed an unusual name. My grandfather was George Berrien Chidsey, lived and died in Rome, Georgia. Unsure of any ancestry. Have wondered about this for years... anyone know anything?

I have been having such a hard time with my father's family tree because he was born in England. It's hard researching his ancestors,they just didn't keep family bibles records. At least I havn't discovered them. A lot of people have been so helpful, though.

My Mom (Charlotte's grandaughter) was so surprised happy to see the info you had. Charlotte died when my Mom was only 2 years old, in 1922. I do have info on Charlotte's husband children if you want it for your site. I'm sad that her line of Chidsey's stopped with her since you have found no siblings. I have an aunt in New York who has the family bible will be asking her for some info., though (I am on the West Coast)

Hi Lylamae-Thanks for the reply. Since Charlotte had no siblings I am going to go back further. Do you know if her father had any siblings? I am searching, as you can see, for any branch of the Chidsey tree. I am hoping that the name is still growing. Please help me if you can, or if you know where I can search on the internet. It seems everything is a dead end. You are the first to be able to access any files. I have heard the Mormon Church has very good records, but I have yet to visit them.

I noticed your last name is spelled Chedsey. Is that any connection to Chidsey?

My Chidsey ancestors' line started in America with John, b. ca. 1621 in England, d. in Connecticut. The family settled in East Haven, CT and had many descendants.
You may want to consult, "Families of Ancient New Haven," by Donald Lines Jacobus, 1923, and/or "East Haven Register" by Stephen Dodd, 1824. There are many other books which contain facts about the Chidsey family.
