I am looking for a connection between Lew Childre and Elton King. According to family members they were cousins. I have found Lew childre in Opp Alabama. does anyone know what his mother's maiden name is?

Donald - I am the son of Cecil's cousin. I am not sure, but I would guess that Cecil's grandfather was Waid Hampton Childre who seems to have been born in Georgia in 1842. I say this only because of the same middle name. Take care. George Childre

My William's father Nathan was born in 1895. I can't trace further back than that. If your Agnes is sister to a William, maybe Nathan's father was a William? There is a hand written note next to Agnes and Hodgen's marriage date that says "Wm's daughter"....I just don't know which William.

The date I have on this marriage record is:

Agnes Childrey md Wm. Hodgen 11 Dec. 1787 in Richmond County, GA.

Do you have anything on Agnes' parents? Sorry I can't be more help.

Sherrie,The sister of the william childre I am tracing was the Agnes childre that married a william hodgin in richmond county,ga. in 1787, they moved to ohio between 1798 and 1802 from wrightsboro with at least one or more of the childre family. agnes was taken by the indians as a girl and escaped some years later to marry william or so the story goes. my research is still pretty basic but it does sound like there could be a link. I don't have any records for any of my Childre line that went to Ohio or anywhere except Georgia and AL and TX. Of course, this doesn't mean they didn't.

I believe my William's line is from Nathan Childre and Martha Wells who married in Crawford County, GA in 1818. I have not been able to pin down this Nathan's father.

The Childre bible pages I have do not go back any further than this.

I have some miscellaneous notes from an "old" relative with marriages, but there is no tie to our direct line. The early ones are:

Agnes Childrey md. Wm. Hodgen 1787 in Richmond County, GA.
John Childress md Sally Goolsby 1796 in Oglethorpe County, GA
Robert Childers md Sarah Carter, 1809 in Elbert County, GA

...........etc.

Who are you looking for? There are other names on this list of marriages - a whole page, but all are in GA. Dates from 1787 to 1830.

I don't know if your william childre is related to my gr-great grandfathers family but they were located near wrightsboro from about 1773 to around 1800, they appear to have moved at least part of the family to ohio between 1800 and 1804, I am still in the early stages of my own research but would be happy to shaire what I can.

I have copies of the Family Bible "Bearth" pages from William Childre, b. May 30, 1819 in Wilkinson County, GA, died May 25, 1888 in Retreat, Grimes County, TX.

These are the children of William and Margaret Francis (Fannie) Smith Jordan of Covington County, AL. The family migrated from Covington County, AL to Grimes County, TX in the 1860s.

Nathan Childre and Martha Wells were William's parents. They lived in Wilkinson and Crawford Counties in GA.

William Jacob born September 3rd, 1840
Waid Hampton born February 19th, 1842
Maryann Charlotty born July 20th, 1843
Orin Iverson born January the 22nd, 1845
Squire Nathan was born April the 27th, 1846
Marthann Edney was born August 3rd, 1848
Elizyann Priscillia was born August 20th, 1849
Isaac Micajah was born June(? hard to read) 24th, 1850
Francisann Elizabeth born August 22nd, 1851
Susanne Martila was born December 13, 1853
Mandy Caroline was born March 13th, 1856 - Mandy Caroline departed this life October the 27th 1861 at sunrise.
Margret Cassie Jane was born February 18th, 1859
Tillman D. Oxford was born January 1st, 1861

I don't believe the Bozeman/Childre line is the same as Lew Childre. Our line came from Carolinas and GA - I haven't found anyone in our line in TN. Could be a brother from one of our ancestral lines that went to TN.

I run into a stone wall at Nathan Childre , b. Dec 13, 1795 in Crawford County, GA. I can't connect to his parents.

There is a group of Childre men listed in Crawford County, GA marriages:

These are still in GA after our Childres are in Alabama.

I, too, am descended from Chesley Whitfield Bozeman and Missouri Ann Samantha Childre Bozeman. I have gotten quite a bit of information on this Childre family recently. Cannot find any evidence that Samantha was Cherokee. My mother is Henrietta, youngest child of Daniel Hampton Bozeman.

Are you related to Lew Childre, b1901 in Opp, Covington County, Alabama. He was country music humorist, singer, Grand Old Opry regular, had son L. J. Childre, infamous in fishing sport. A gentleman is looking for his connection to Lew, his line coming from James Samuel Childres, dca1863 b in Tennessee, lived in Lauderdale, County.

The last I heard about the twins was, Bill was in La. and Kathy was in Orange County Ca?
She and her husband had something to do with Mobile homes. She had 2 boys if I remember.
Bill senior was a friend of my mothers, I wondered why I didn't recieve a X-Mas card from him this year so I looked him up on the SSDI, and sure enough, he passed away last year. That's why I'm tring to find the twins so I can get a sympathy card to them. Let me

Hi everyone: Thought I would see if anyone has information
about their ancestors that might be helpful; my great-grandmother (Missouri A. Samantha Childre) born: 3/5/1839
in Covington County, Alabama, died: 8/2/1924 in Covington
Co., Alabama; married Chesly Whitfield Bozeman. My
grandmother, Edna Elizabeth Bozeman was one of their children. I know greatgrandmother Samantha was Cherokee, her father was William Childre (her mothers name is unknown)
and I believe William was from Georgia.
Would appreciate any information, anyone can give.

Kathy, I knew that Bill had passed from SS but could not help but wonder about others. I knew about the children as Bill looked me up and found me 3 times. The last time in 1972 after Lois had passed. I think his dad's name was Clyde. 62 yrs takes a lot of remembering. I know there was Beaulah for she talked him into the double date where he
met and married Lois. The only brother I knew was TOMMY. When we were still in contact I think, he told me of 2 death but I do not remember just who. It seems his Mom had family in Colorado.
Do you have an obit.? Did you know that Bill had been in the USMC stationed in Honolulu? that his trade was printing while in California?

He, his sister Beulah, Mother (I believe Catherine,) and brother Tommie lived on Pierce St. Bill and I were to be married as soon as I graduated from Hi School(1939) He went on a double date with Beulah her boyfriend (Faunce) Lois. He returned married

Thanks for the fast responce Kathy. The reason I am looking for them is... Cathy is my step sons mother. He has not seen her in 19 ys. Her other Sons names are Steven and William. I contacted a C. Fauntz in Va. and the last time she saw Bill was sixs years ago. If we could get the death write up in the Riverside News paper on Bills death they may have Cathy and Bill listed as serviving family members and where they live.

MR. CHILDRE

Marshall Day Childre, 79, died Sunday, Nov. 9, at Providence Hospital in Waco after a sudden illness.

Services will be Thursday, Nov. 13, at 1 p.m. in the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ed Wright and Wendell C. Wilbourn officiating. Burial will be in Hurst Ranch Cemetery.

Mr. Childre was born Aug. 1, 1918, in Madisonville, the son of Jeff and Pearl Veniable Childre. He was married to Bessie Kincheloe on April 20, 1939, in Hamilton.

He was an oilfield worker and served on a medical ship during World War II. He was a Baptist and had lived in Hamilton for 16 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Jeanelle Childre, a sister, Wilma Childre Clary, and a brother, Donald Childre.

Survivors include his wife, Bessie Childre of Hamilton; three children, Marzelle Jeanette Childre of Huntington Beach, Calif., Marion Doyce Childre of Homeland, Calif., and Roger Dale Childre of Hamilton; a sister, Lera Childre Fields of Hamilton; a brother, James Childre of Kentucky; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Roger Childre and Marion D. Childre.

When did you say Kathy married her last husband?1989? I think the last time I saw them was in 1990 when I was pregnant with my last child.So it was about 10 years ago.
Bill senior always went to visit Bill Jr. in
