Re: Chill family in Burma

Re your post 28 September 2008 reference to the Chill family and the story about the name being split and half using the CHILL and the other CHURCHILL. My husband who was born in India used to tell me the same story including the bit about Winston Churchill. The family was in India from late 1700's leaving after independence. One of his uncles was killed in Burma. From two documents it indicates that the Chills were originally from Ireland but have been unable to trace where as it would have been before 1780.

Maybe we have a connection. Would be interested to hear from you

Chill family in Burma

My great grandmother was Dorothy Mason (nee Chill), and was born in Burma in 1895. There is a family myth that in fact, the Chills were part of the (Winston) Churchill family. After a serious disagreement between relatives, one side of the family split from the other - one keeping the name church, and the other keeping the name chill. Sounds weird, but my g grandmother was very clear on this, along with us being related somehow to Lord Winston Churchill. Dorothy Chill married Captain John (Jack) Mason, who was a chief pilot in the Malacca and Singapore Straits. They had three daughters, Lorna (b Penang, Malaya), Margaret and Evelyn. If anyone knows anything about these people, please do get in touch.
