As someone wrote many Chin are Hakka. In the 1800's the Chin's who were from Toyshan Kwangtung China and a war with the Hakka or Northern guests (basically fleeing from persecution in the North). Before the war many had settled in the fertile delta and probably intermarried with Toyshan Chins who are actually Chan or today Chen (pronounced Chin in Toyshan). The Toyshan defeated the Hakka and exiled them to labor ships headed for Jamaica, where the majority reside today with mixing African roots. The remaining Chin's later came to America in the late 1800 to early 1930 to better themselves in the Gold Mountain fields out West.
Unfortunately they found hardship and discrimination. For more info Google the Chin Wing Chun (Societies of Western cities.) and Chen temples in China

It's Lilian Chin-Mason again.
There is an English family name Chin, origin from Somerset, England. It means ravine dwellers. This is in case your ancestry is not Chinese.

My ancestry is definitely Chinese and I have a copy of our family's chook-poo (geneology history). I've also been to our family graveyards, village and Xian to trace the history. Although the original graveyard is now a condo development, I was fortunate to film it before its relocation. Last August I went to the new graveyard to pay my respect to my ancestors in China.

The Chin (Chinese) are great adventurers and settled in many countries. Also, Chin families are known to marry outside of their race as evident in my family.
My maternal grandmother (Lim) was born in Philadephia and I ended up in Canada. Go figure! Lilian (March 8, 2009)

The origin of Chin goes back to Qin Wong Ti who was the first Emperor of China. The terra cotta soldiers in Xian, China are remains of a great warrior. He united China, hence first Emperor of China.
Chin is a surname to be proud of. There is a museum in Shenzhen of the Chin family. In Bao'an, China you will find they speak Hakka which means (guest family). Hakka is the ancient Chinese language spoken in Court.
Also in Moyen, China there is a famous millitary university.
It is the origin of many Moyen Hakka people. The Chin family are great warriors and conquerors.

Hello! My grandmother, Evelyn, died a few years back and, after looking at her most recent marriage certificate, I discoverd that she had been married before to a Chin. This would have likely been around the 1940s in Toronto, Ontario. It would seem that this Mr. Chin likely had died shortly afterwards. They may also have had a son named Eugene, although I'm not sure about that. Any information would be appreciated! Thank you very much!

KING - June Lene was born January 3, 1917 in Taysan China. In 1955 she married William King and moved to Eatonia SK. They lived there until 1998 when they moved to Saskatoon. June passed away at Saskatoon City Hospital on Monday, October 31, 2005. She was predeceased by her husband, William King in June 2001; her mother, Chow See Chin in 1988; her father, Wong Chin in 1962; and her sister, King Fa Ng in 1978. Mrs. Sue Mei Chin, 79, of 22 S Jackson St., died on Sunday in Mercy Hospital.
She was born in Canton, China, on May 31, 1901. She was married S. Y. Chin in China and came to the United States in 1952.
Survivors include her husband, one son, John Leong of Janesville; one daughter, Mrs. Kat Wung Moy of Hong Kong; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Overton Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Waterman officiating. Burial will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.

In 1895 he married Belle Martin. They were married in Jackson County, Texas.

Their children are:

4. Vernon Chin who died in 1969 in Jackson County, Texas.

hello. like you, I am interested in my family tree, but don't know where to begin. my father's name is wah pon chin. my mother's name is tong gene wong. ..I went to my father's village in china in 1985. but would not be able to locate it again. I recall that there was a well in the main gathering area of the village where everybody hung out in the day time to talk.

Kim Loy Chin, a 35-year resident of Davis, died June 26, 2004. She was 62.

Born Aug. 1, 1941 in Phoenix, she was raised in San Francisco with her eight brothers and sisters. She attended UC Berkeley and graduated from the UC San Francisco School of Pharmacy in 1964.

After raising her family, she returned to the practice of pharmacy and worked for 14 years until her death.

A golfer and tennis player, she spent recent years traveling the world with her family.

She was preceded in death by her father, Wing How Yee; mother, Wong Yuen Yee; and younger brother, Yale Kee Yee.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas Chin of Davis; sons, Mark of Alameda, Jeff of Santa Clara and Greg and his wife Mimi of El Dorado Hills; and grandsons, Grant and Andrew of El Dorado Hills.

She is also survived by her siblings, Toy San Tom (Stephen), Yale Hong Yee (Letitia), Toy Kim Yuen (Vincent), Mimi Chin (Henry), Sue Pane Lee (Parke), Benjamin Yee (Candace) and Bonnie Lowe (Dennis), as well as 31 nieces and nephews and 36 grandnieces and grandnephews.

A celebration of her life will begin at 3 p.m. Friday at the El Macero Country Club, 44571 Clubhouse Drive in El Macero.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that remembrances in her name be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 102454, Atlanta, GA 30368-2454.

I am from one of the many Chin families that are out there. My name is Christina, Cheng Yee Chin. My ancestors are from Southern China. My grandfather's name is Anthony, Poh Onn Chin and my dad is Frankie, Kon Wah Chin. "Chin" is indeed predominantly a Chinese surname or family name. It is actually a very prominant family name with quite a bit of history. I, myself, am trying to gather my family tree together but do not know where to begin. I hope you will find the answers to your questions soon.

I am looking for any descendants or other relatives, of George Eli Chinn, born November 11, 1896 in Beaverhead, Montana, and his wife Agnus Woods, born abt 1891 in Dewey, MOntana.
I know they had two daughters, Helen Maxine Chinn and Marguerite A. Chinn. Helen was born January 14, 1911 in Melrose, Montana, and Marguerite was born about 1912. Hello,

In 1953, I graduated from Ramsay High School, in Birmingham, Alabama, with a young man whose name was Wee On Chin (or CHIN Wee-on in the traditional Chinese style).

In June, we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of our graduation with a reunion here in Birmingham. Wee-on is one of the few classmates we have not been able to locate or account for. Because I went on to later become a Chinese Mandarin linguist (as well as Japanese and Burmese), I have a particularly strong interest in being the one to locate him.

I have exhausted all of the on-line "people search" engines, and thought perhaps someone on this forum might know of him. Any assistance or information will be most sincerely appreciated.

I'm sorry, I haven't come across Citira's name in my family tree, but maybe you have come across these names. An Edwin Chin married to Maria Fong, both from China, lived in Buff Bay, Portland from 1930's? to 1975. Maybe Citira knew these people who had a shop and also 3 kids named Edward, Fay and Renard. Faith, do these names ring a bell? Edwin Chin married to Maria Fong, both from China and lived in Buff Bay, Portland. Charles or Charlie Chin, brother of Edwin.
Another set of Chin married to neeFong produced 8 children named Vincent, Jean, Mavis, Hilton, Fay, Enid, David and Francis. They used to live in Hope Bay then Linstead. Could you be a descendant of any of these? Please let me know.

Edwin Chin married Maria Fong and had Edward, Fay and Renard in Portland. I'm Fay's daughter trying to find the multitudes of Fongs cousins who used to live in Linstead and Hope Bay. Also, any info on Edwin's brother's (Charles or Charlie?) family . . . one son died and the other nicknamed "Happy"? Edwin had a sister who had a daughter (Julie?) who passed away a long time ago.

I am looking for any descendents of an Agnes Chinn. I believe her mother was Ellen Angelina Isbell and her father was Peter Woods. I have info that she was born in the Butte, Montana area., and that she had two girls Helen, and Marguerite. The birthdate that I have for Agnes is November 10, 1891.

my grandmother is Citira Chin and was born in Portland Jamaica in 1917. She married Wilbert Martin in 1946 and has 8 children. All but one child resides in Canada. If this is helpful, please do not hesitate to contact me.
