Hi,

I am looking for any Chinn's that have information on an African-American (actually mixed race) woman named Caroline Chinn. She was born around 1814 and died in the 1860's I believe and lived in VA and Washington, D.C.. Gaskins was her maiden name and along the way she had a marriage to a Davis and then a Chinn. I do not believe she had any children with her Chinn husband though, and I suspect he was African-American as well.

My interest is that she is my great great grandmother.

My great-great grandfather was Richard Robert Chinn born a slave in KY in 1850. I was lucky enough to have been able to discover him and my great-great grandmother (Harietta E. Points) from the census only because of knowing my great grandmother's name. The census states he did not know either of his parents. I'm hoping to connect with any possible help....

My father's name was Adrian Joseph Chinn. He died when I was only 1.My mother's name was Cynthia Chinn (Maiden name "Smith") My mother and I don't talk and his side of the family has not tried to contact me since his death. I have brothers and sisters that I don't know. I have spent many years asking myself questions. How he died, who is my family, what is my ancestry. I am 16 now and I want to do something about it. I would become a member of places that could tell me about my family, but they all cost money and I don't want to use my legal guardians credit cards, they wouldn't approve of this. I highly doubt anyone can help, but it was worth a shot.

Yes, I am Bolling Robertson Chinn's great, great grandson, being descenced from his son, Thomas Withers Chinn (1853-1913)who was Frederick Conrad Chinn's older brother.

I have never found the evidence. There was mention in one query about a news paper article that listed Thomas Scott Chinn had a son John. I would think this would be John Peyton, father of John Pigg. Would love to see that article. Let me know.

Greetings. I am also a descendant of Raleigh and Margaret and Joseph and Seth/Sethe/Sythia,Scythia, etc. I have always looked kindly on them in spite of, or perhaps because of, their plentiful production of scandalous documents. I have never heard of specific kind things that Raleigh has done, though, and I would love to learn of them. Thank you.

I believe my relative, Nellie Warren, b. 1863 married William H C Chinn's son Chichester C Chinn, he was also called Chester or Ches, 03 Dec 1912 in Ord, NE. It was second marriage for both I think. In the 1920 census, I think she's listed as 'Mary' but most ll other info is correct. Nellie died 27 Oct 1923 in St Paul, NE. I have more info about her and her family and her first marriage.

His dad's name was Edward Chinn, his mom was Naomi and his name was Ivan Edward Chinn. He had an aunt by the name of Mary. Who visited him in Durban, South Africa. I too am a descendant of a William Henry Chinn (my great, great grandfather) I believe he was born in 1830 in Cornwall U.K. He married Susan Elizabeth Fox, born 1836 in Devonshire, U.K. They then had my great grandfather, Robert Richard Chinn, born 21 January 1857 in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia, so obviously they emigrated some time before he was born. That's all the info I have I'm afraid.

I have a lot of the Taylor family from Hampton In Arden

I presume after looking at this board that Chin must be spelt Chinn then?

I am the descendant of a group of Chinn's from out of the Jackson County, Texas area.

I am told that our Chinn roots trace all the way back to the Chinn Plantation in Virgina.

Do you know of any Chinn's that migrated toward the Texas area?

My greatgrandmother was a "Chinn" from Newfoundland and some of her relatives did move to Nova Scotia (Halifax area) around the 1890's. My greatgrandmother married "Clatworthy" in around 1893 and immigrated back to England where "Clatworthy" was born

My Chinns hail from the midlands of England and have been there since the 1600's with references in the national archives putting the family there from the 12th century.

Hi There, I am also looking for info. on a Preston Chinn who would be my great great great Grandfather, my great great grandfather would be Geroge Chinn which I found on a 1880 cencus for Collins, Edgefield, South carolina. Preston's father's birthplace was also listed as Kentucky. This is my fathers side of the family. I have been doing this for several years, but just got started good on my dads side. I have and Elijah Chinn b. ca 1826 in Bourbon County, KY and died ca 1846 in KY. I only have a listing for a Mary Elizabeth Murdoch as wife. Did your Elijah have more than one wife? They had a daughter named Nancy Alice, who married my ggrandfather John Vivian Evans. I thought it interesting that your last name is Evans, too. Coincidence? What do you think?

This first notation of Chinn in my family tree is a John Chynn b. 1642 in VA. He married an Alice Smoot in the 1660s in Lancaster, VA. They had three children of whom I am aware: Rawleigh (b. 23 May 1684), Ann (b. 05 May 1682) and Catherine (b. 7. Jun 1688).

Incidentally, my father has Chinn in both sides of his maternal grandmother's family at one time or another. It appears that the Chinns and Evans families married each other as they moved through KY to MO, where Mary Elizabeth Evans, my ggrandmother, was born to John Vivian Evans and Nancy Alice Chinn. Connections to family of Richard included Joseph who married Rosetta Whiley and had some 5 children that I am aware of.
The oldest William is listed as born in Devon while Samuel the youngest is born in London.

The family migrate to Australia and Joseph and Rosetta both die on Port Phillip Island, Australia.

I am descended from the youngest Samuel and his daughter Elizabeth(Eliza)Jane who married Donald McDonald.

1. Have you got marriage certificate to get parents names.
2. If you know parents try searching on familysearch.org using parents names only in advanced search window. You may find Jane was born with another first name and Jane is middle name.
3. Do you know where she died that you might get her death certificate which may include her parents.
4. Also remember while Birmingham was written was that actually the one in UK or USA. Nearly all the name in England can be found in USA as well. The census person may not know this so if he asked what town they were born in they would have replied with that name, he has presumed it was in England and may therefore not have bothered to ask for the County.

Help needed i am looking for information on Jane Chinn birth abt 1858 who married Henry Percer Beck birth abt 1857 they married 1880. They were both born in Birmingham, Warwickshire. I have records on census 1881 birmingham,1891 birmingham, and then 1901 in hunslet ,Leeds. I can not find anymore records with her on before 1881 not even birth record can anyone please help or give me any information on what to look at next.
