Elizabeth Chisholm/Chisham/Chism

Searching for any information on Elizabeth Chisholm born about 1839 who was married to Sanford Chowning of Scott County, KY. Their children were: William Brown, Charles Horace, Martha B, Alford Sanford and James Walker. Elizabeth was my 2nd great grandmother and I am hunting for any information (even the slenderest clue!) that might assist me in correctly identifying her parents or any of her siblings. Thanks!

Hello Cousin, Remember that wedding dress we went back to buy? It's me. But I married George, Not Walt. George and I had 12 wonderful years, he handed me the remote when we got married, shooed me away from the kitchen and laundry and said his job was to make me happy and he did. He passed away last May. So I have time to do geneology again. So I guess we need to straighten out your sister who has the two Samuel Chishams confused. After all my heart attacks, strokes, and stents plus diabetes, I don't have a lot of time left, so please reply soon. I am donating a shuttle cart to the Fort Richardson Natl. Chisham Chisholm connection with Poore and Malcolm families

Thomas Poore, son of Nathaniel (1806-1865) and Martha (unknown) was the brother of James K Poore (b 1850). James and his wife Angeline Gibson had a daughter, Mattie Poore (b 1879) who married Luther Malcolm in 1894. Luther's cousin (2nd? 3rd?), Charlotte Malcolm (1876-1942) married James Anderson Poore (1874-1952), son of Silas C Malcolm and grandson of George and Martha (Allison) Malcolm. All of these people are found in Edgar and Jasper Counties, Ill. and Vigo County, Indiana from Charlotte and Lee Counties, Virginia, by way of (Green)Kentucky and (Johnson Co) Indiana. In the 1850 census Prudence Chisholm nee Poore (1782-) is living with Nathaniel Poore's family in Edgar County, Illinois. She is the widow of William Chisholm, whom she married in Green Kentucky. The Chisholms also came from Charlotte County, Va.

James Anderson Poore is the grandson of Greenville Green Poore b. 1804, Virginia. I would like to know whether and, if so, how Green Poore b 1804 in Virginia and Nathanie Poore b. 1806 in Virginia, are related. Also, is Prudence Poore's husband William Chisholm related to an earlier William Chisholm who lived in Charlotte County Va and found there in the 1782 Virginia Census and is a neighbor of James Malcolm (1752-1829) who moved to Georgia.

Would love to communicate with you! My father died 11-27-1998 at age 72 of Lung Cancer. It was my Father's mother, Edna, who died in a house fire when my father was around 2 and his sister, Dorothy, was an infant. She got them out and went back for something & never came out. My mother, Margie, died on 8-23-1991 at age 64 from Oral Cancer.(both my parents were very heavy smokers). Would love to exchange any info. Mary Ann contacted me once and I sent her all my info and then never heard back from her.

I am the oldest daughter of George Harvey Chisham and Loretta Lucille Littrell Chisham. I remember our grandparents. I knew your mom had died in a fire but did not know the whole story. I knew about Kenny and his sister but do not remember meeting them. I knew Kenny had died. Not sure where Aunt Myrtle or Aunt Bessie are as they are the last two surviving children. Dad died on 1/26/96 of lung and prostate cancer at the age of 72. He died 70 yrs to the date of his Edna died. Would love to communicate with you. My brother, George, has been doing a family tree and has a lot of info. So does our cousin Mary Ann, who lives in Alaska.

Kansas and her small son (they died within weeks of each other) are buried with her in-laws. Her husband, Frank Crum, remarried (to Alma Johnston) and they later moved Weleetka,Oklahoma. They are buried in the cemetery at Weleetka.

I have more recently found that Izella Rothgeb Chisham, who died in Oregon, is buried in the Union Cemetery, Union, Union County, Oregon.

Margery apparently stayed in Oregon and married there.

My Grandmother was a Chisham and I have traced the Chishams back to William b. 1740 in VA. Am trying to find the origin of the name Is it Scott, Irish, English? I know Scotch Chisholm, but don't know if our Chisham got changed somewhere along the line. Any info would be much appreciated.

She married William Lloyd in England and had 7 children, William Griffith, Lloyd Salisbury, Julia, Margaret, Edmund, Richard, Harry. Father's name is Robert William CHISHAM, mother's name is Ana OLIVER?. 1910 US Census for Hammond City, Indiana shows William and Cora's family living on Logan Street; her father was born in Kentucky and mother was born in Illinois. The names you use are not familiar to me. Grandpa Harry chisham had a older brother Joe, but he died in the 1960's. Deah Blevins on rootweb will be able to help you. they all lived around Fredonia, Ks, and Coyville, etc.

I hope you're still on this website. I am Sharon Golden, My father's mother was Edna Mae Chisham. She died in a house fire when she was 21 and my father was about 2. Samuel was his grandfather. I remember grandma & grandpa Chisham well. My father stayed close to aunt Marie. Joel and his wife, Dorothy had a farm in Osage, Ks. What I remember about your dad was his blond hair. I remember seeing a picture of him & his kids all with blond hair and blue eyes.

Grandma Chisham was Clara Mary Josephine Servais born in Belgium Feb. 3 1882, died Dec. 20 1963. Samuel Russell was born in Indiana June 20, 1871 & died July 14, 1953. His F. was Joe Amos Chisam b. 1842 Indiana, d. 1914 His M. was Sarah Jane Meeks b. Apr 4, 1842 Indiana, d. 1933.

I have more info I'll send if I hear from you.

I remember grma & grpa lived in a house at the top of a big hill in Rosedale, KS just outside KC, KS. You could walk across the street and see the railroad yards. I have some pictures of them and some more history. (my father was Kenneth George Golden. The family called him George.

Samuel Russell Chisham was my Gr. Grandfather.His children were Joel, Bessy George Bill Marie, Arthur and Edna. Edna was my father's mother. She died in a house fire at age 21.

Samuel's f. was Joel Amos m. Sarah Jane Meeks. Joel's f. was Uriel Riley m. Catherine Busick. Uriel's f. was Benjamin F. m. Elizabeth Beckman. Uriel's f. was William????

I'm still trying to find the origin of the name and if it was changed along the line.

Chisham, Indiana to Kansas

I am a Gr. Granddaughter of Samuel Russell Chisham. His parents Joel & Sarah Jane Meeks & Joel's Uriel & Catherine & His Benjamin. Benjamin's f. William?? Have lots of info up to Benjamin but can't find anything after and trying to find country originated from.

Margaret was born in 1908 in Fall River, Kansas. She was married to a man whose surname was Wolfe (she's mentioned in N. B.'s Will -

THIRD: Having heretofore made provision for my daughter, Margaret Chisham Wolfe, of Union, Oregon, I give her nothing whatsoever. (An obit of N.B. calls her Margery of Baker, Oregon.)

So she seems to have remained in Oregon following her mother's death in 1921.

I'd love to find where N.B. was in 1930.

I was startled to find that in the 1920 U S Census that N.B. & his second wife Izella Rothgeb Chisham and their daughter, 11-year old Margaret ("Margery") were living in Oregon in Union County, Union City > District 193. His occupation (this 70-year old man) was liste as "truck farmer.

Then I also found that Izella died there on Jan. 21, 1921. I don't know whether she was buried there or not.

I wonder if he and his little girl then returned to Kansas shortly after -- he died in Wichita in the home of his oldest daughter, Carrie Hancock.

I'd never heard anything about his going to Oregon. Anybody know of this?

In the posting by Robert he had Milton James Chisham. As this was my husband's uncle and he buried right here at Riverside National Cemetery, his headstone reads James M. Chisham as does his marriage license to Lois Feltenberger my husband's aunt and the sister of his father and his death certificate which I have. I would love to have all of the birth and death dates of all his brothers and sisters plus names of spouses and children etc.

RE Julia Stribling Chisham - last year (2007), we visited her grave in southern Kansas. She rests in a pretty little country cemetery, perched on a low hill. Her grave is very easy to find -- it's right next to the drive that circles around through the cemetery.

In our family history he was always Thomas Frank Chisham. I came in touch with the Chism/Hodges etc web page and found Thomas Dinwiddie, thus the 'D'.
I have no other clue for 'Frank' and open to all suggestions of pinning down the Thomas Dinwiddie and Thomas Frank.

I've found them in Scott County, which today is south of Cincinnati with several counties in between. Without digging into my notes, I believe that back in the early 1800s, which is when we're interested, Scott may not yet have been carved into smaller counties.

Julia Stribbling (also Stribling), her parents, and her brother (Cincinnatus Sanford) and sister Winifred Vawter Stribling were all born in Scott County. Julia and her brand-new (at least within a few months) husband migrated from Scott County to Jackson County, Missouri.

Julia's mother, Lucy Dehony West (West was her second husband; the first died quite prematurely) had several other children, and I've found Lucy in Missouri with Julia's half-brother Edward West.

I don't know whether you ever found out any more on where Julia and Tom came from, but I have found that Julia was born in Scott County, Kentucky, in 1812. I still don't know any more on Thomas.

Malcolm was the older brother to Lois Olive Crum (she HATED that mddle name, but her father picked it), who was born March 4, 1909. Her aunt Carrie (Carolyn Chisham Hancock) took her in for a couple of years -- she spoke often and very fondly of Aunt Carrie.

Lois was my mother-in-law and she left us Feb. 2, 2000, in Lake Oswego, Oregon. Some time after Kansas's death, her husband Frank Crum married Alma Johnston; I've not been successful in tracking down the date. Frank and Alma had a daughter and a son.

Lois married William Ryan (Ryan) Bell on June 17, 1928, in Claremore, Oklahoma. They had two children: my husband Don and his brother Robert. Don's been retired for some years now; Robert is retiring in September.

Hello...I've been working on my ancestry, and I'm looking for any information you may have on Thomas Dinwiddie Chisham and Julia (Stribbling) Chisham, and any of their descendants. I've got some information through my grandmother, Helen (Martin) Underwood of what she can remember. Her grandmother was Sarah Amanda Chisham, daughter of James Alfred Chisham and Martha Anna (Henderson) Chisham. James is the son to Thomas and Julia. Sarah married William Dudley Martin, and later married Samuel Oscar Borland. Any information or photos you may have would be greatly appreciated. N. B.'s wife - picture

I keep going through stuff and find I have a picture of Mary Harriet Cornelia Johnson Chisham. It's a later print apparently of a tintype or some such process and the quality isn't very good. But again, I'll share.

I mentioned earlier I have a picture of Kansas Chisham. I have another -- apparently a girlhood picture- - that's quite delightful. She has quite a wide pale collar, almost like a shawl, and a big bow perched on her high-piled hair.

Again -- anyone want an electronic copy, let me know. It may take me a while -- I'm amassing a huge pile of things to scan. (What fun!! oh, the goodies!)

I'm in the throes of going through and sorting the contents of a slew of boxes in my office closet, and a bunch of them are family history stuff.

My latest prizes (some of which I will scan when I get the path cleared through my office) include a picture of the "old Chisham Home" near New Albany. It's one of a batch that Mom (Lois Crum Bell--daughter of Kansas Chisham) took on a trip touring family graves in 1974. In the lot are handwritten notes on the info from tombstones.

I also find I have a photo -- nice full face shot-- of Kansas, which of course will also go in the earliest scanning session.

Okay, thanks to all the help here, but I've still got a couple of gaps on the children of N B Chisham and Mary Johnson. I've got dates on Carrie, James, Della, Kansas (my husband's grandmother), John Milton, Harry Daniel, and Joseph Powell. Does anybody know anything about Julia Etta and Margaret? I have info that Margaret married a Wolf (she's mentioned in N.B.'s will); I have nothing else on Julia.

P.S. I have a photo of Julia Stribbling Chisham; it's quite a large file -- 3.8 MB, but I also have a .jpeg that's much much smaller. Anyone interested drop me a note and I'll pass it along. She's quite the little lady in it.

I noticed your message containing the name Samuel R. Chisham. My great great grandmother was Eliza E. Chisham, she had a brother Samuel. Their father was Urial R. Chism. Could this be the same family? Eliza married a Lambdin and they had Mary Catherine, who married a Hazen. That is how I am connected.

I wish I could help you with this but my lineage is my dad Paul Houchin Chisham his dad was Harry Daniel Chisham his grand dad was Napolean Bonaparte Chisham his great grand dad was Thomas Chisham married to Julia Stribling and there is no record of who his parents were at this time he went to California in the gold rush and was not heard from again after regestering for a claim with another man.

Margaret Chism or Chisholm (married to Daniel Chisholm)
I believe she was a McLean before marrying Daniel
In 1850, she was widowed at age 50 (she was from North Carolina - Robeson County, I believe)

Also:
Sarah Chism age 30 from North Carolina
Elizabeth Chism age 28 from North Carolina
Mary Chism age 26 from North Carolina
Neal R. Chism age 22 from Alabama
Ann Chism age 18 from Alabama

In another household in Monroe County, AL, there was a John Chisholm... I believe married to a Matilda Curry. Info. on this Chisholm would be greatly appreciated.
